Yep, since that was suggested it's what I'm hearing too. You know sometimes when words just won't make any sense no matter how hard you try to figure them out?? :P

Wow, mp3 downloads on Amazon.co.jp - can anyone let me know if they try this and if it lets you pay with an international credit card? I'd be really keen to know this, as it will be a cheaper method than buying iTunes JP gift cards on eBay ;)

That's precisely the reason I don't buy the physical CDs - far too expensive to import, and the delivery charges are just ridiculous.

Good job I'm not an audiophile. I use Amazon.co.uk for downloading mp3s and I've never been disappointed by the sound quality, so I can't believe the Japanese store would be much worse. But FLAC lossless it ain't, so I guess you'll need to find other avenues.

I just really feel the need to support the labels with these releases by purchasing through "official" channels. ;)

I LOL'ed.

I recorded the previews from iTunes and uploaded the file to Mega :

Yes, it's Megaupload's successor if you were wondering.

Anyway, I'll do my review once I get my CD but the filename to the file I just shared should give you an idea of what I think of it so far :)

Suddenly, Different Girl and Kiss are sounding a whole lot better. This is a good album the more you listen to it with a couple of let-downs ("1 Fire" does nothing for me for example).

Who is the female vocalist in Wacky Wacky O? It isn't Linda, so is it Domino? I'm confuzzled :D

my eurobeat 221 review

I actually quite enjoyed the song alot. I found it refreshing to hear a bit of a eurodance/eurohouse sound in the backround, just like Ditz said.

My other top songs I enjoyed are (also in nor particular order):

1. Different Girl - Ang = It has a bit of a mainstream sound in the way the melody of the vocals are sung through, which might be bad for those who like only traditional eurobeat, but I quite enjoyed it and might be a tactic to keep any new listerners to the genre satisfied. I actually DID in fact hear Annerley Gordon's voice in there. She has sung under so many aliases for Eurobeat and that isn't even half of the aliases she has gone under in the Eurodance/eurohouse world aside from Project Whigfield and Ann Lee. Annerley Gordon is very gifted in knowing how to change her voice under different aliases, and I think this is the "new" voice she has under "AN-G'' and I find it quite refreshing. If you are a true Annerley gordon fan and have followed all her work, you WILL hear her voice, it just has a different tone to it.

2. Power & Love - Stephy = Love the more powerful mature sound of Stephy, and wish she would stay doing this style, since I think she does this best instead of her whimsical style. Bring back those good 80's High Energy rock/pop sounds in there, kinda reminiscent of Bonnie Tyler - Holding out for a hero, but not exactly. Did anybody else notice the extra 2nd set of short riffs right after the 1st set of harder guitar riffs right after the chorus upon entering the verse? It surprised me when I first heard it because it make me think I was going to hear the rest of it, but it cut short and transitioned so nicely into the opening of the next verse. I would love to hear more of this kind of thing going on in the newer eurobeat.

3. Kiss - Bamboo Bimbo = I just love the Dead or Alive sound during the verse, and brings me back to older eurobeat sounds, but at the same time. Also, is it just me, or do I actually hear NUAGE'S voice in there right after the end of the chorus and before the riff?? The rest of the female vocalist doesn't sound like her, but at the end of the chorus before the riff? Am I the only one hearing her?

4. 1 Fire - Dave Rodgers = I found Dave's voice to be the best I have heart during the 200's series. I have heard him sing terribly in the other 200's. Maybe he has been practising more, given the hiatus, in order to sound like his earlier years? Whatever he is doing, I hope he keeps it up, because his vocal quality sounds great in here. This song fits easily into his earlier sounding material, in that it is not exactly original sounding, but it has a very solid performance, and would definately appeal to lovers of Dave's older solid songs, without getting into newer sounding experimentational sounds. Aside from that, how I do miss hearing Karen Wainwright's voice, and hope any future Sunfire studios will have her make a big comeback, because she is definately one of the strongest sounding diva vocalists in Eurobeat.

5. Kelly - Powerful T = Again, another strong solid song, I found the quailty of the vocals very strong, nothing new sounding, but sometimes that is a good thing because this album has to try to satisfy all kinds of tastes for both the old and new comers. A perfect song for those old time Powerful T fans out there who enjoy the more traditional sound.

6. Wild Boys - Rich Hard = Amazing song. Just when I was thinking that Dave Rodgers at Sunfire seemed to stick to the more traditional sounds in the last couple of Eurobeat albums, he surprised me to bring this slower sounding song, probably taking note from the Hi-NRG's slower songs. I also noticed as well, as Ditz mentioned, that the song has a eurodance/eurohouse beat to it, and enjoyed it very much so. I would love to hear more of this newer experimental side of Sunfire.

7. Daniel - Superdriver = Not my fav song on the album at all, but also not bad at all. Very strong production, but just didn't find anything new to this sound which I've heard so many times before from Delta. At least it's strong production, and the vocals are good, but I am still hoping Delta will try out some newer sounds, or bring back some Clara Moroni in a newer revamped Clara! I can still see this song being popular though on Parapara nights in Tokyo.

8. Hyper Super Powers - Fastway, also not bad, but not my favourite either. The riff has a blend of eurobeat and hyper techno sounds, which is kinda nice though.

9. Boys Gone Wild - Dejo = My top current favorite male vocalist is back. (I say current because my other favourite male vocalist is Ken Laszlo aka Gianni Coriani). Even though I found the song to be a bit too fast for me, (so I just edited it on a program to slow down the speed just a bit, including adjusting the pitch of his voice in order to sound like his older voice in the earlier pre 100's), his voice still melts my heart hearing it! SCP should try and keep his voice pitched like his earlier works, and allow Maurizio de Jorio to sing those slower paced love songs, which really showed off his vocal talent in another way. I do still love his faster more aggresive style, like this one which is a la 'Night of fire', but how I dream to hear Dejorio sing like in his earlier works such as in "Casanova - Lost in the Time." I wish in the future eurobeat artists could release 2 versions of each song, a slowed down one with normal pitch, and a faster one. It would not only help to bring in new comers who might not like the fast sound due to it not sounding that mainstream, but also alot of us really enjoyed that older eurobeat romantic slow sound. I don't mean that the producers have to create 2 different versions of the song with different instrumentals and all (anybody remember Jay Lehr - Fallin' in love had 2 versions, a slower one and faster one?), but I don't mean to that extent of having to remake the song, but just the same melody and song just re-edited on a program to make it sound either faster or normal pitched, and the ability to release each version.

Now for the bad ones I didn't like so much:

1. SEB 4 U, which I guess is not bad since it is pretty cool the idea of so many artists coming together, but I wish it could have more a mature sound to it, and more striking, especially to somebody just hearing eurobeat for the first time. In the sense, I understand it's message in trying to bring some new attention to eurobeat again, but I just didn't like the song at all.

2. Tipsy & Tipsy - down down down. Worst song on the album by far. Cheap sounding, uninspirational, and definately no sign of eurobeat sound whatsoever and no excuse to even be used as a filler "cheese" track for the album. If this is what either avex is accepting from Asia/Saifam, I just don't get it, because the other songs Farina produced which are on Junodownload are just so much better, and wished those songs would be used as his "last" songs if the rumor might be true that Mauro Farina is indeed leaving eurobeat for good. This song is just that bad tasting in my mouth, and makes me think of why some people who might hear eurobeat for the first time would think it sounds immature or childish, or cheap.

3. Cy-ro born to be wild in my car = is not my fav, I've heard better from HiNRG, such as their older slower italo songs, but I guess alot of HiNRG fans out there really dig their faster songs, which I can never understand why, but it's totally understandable to keep in line with producing such songs to please those HiNRG 'junkies" who dig this stuff.

4. Wacky Wacky O - scream team = just like the above song review, cheap, childish, and I guess there is a following for this kind of music, especially in Japan where "kawaii - cute" is cool, but this would not fly at all anywhere else. Not my cup of tea at all. Even though I do enjoy some of Domino's older songs, assuming this is Domino singing in this one? I also wish for her older style songs which could still be fun sounding, but not to the extent of them being for little children who sit down and watch Disney movies all day long.

5. Dance eurobeat - Heather feat. Dima = Not the worst of the bunch, if not maybe the best sounding in my 'worst of' pile. But still not my cup of tea, just because of how the vocals sound childish. Again, this just isn't my taste in Eurobeat.

Amazon.jp lets you pay with international credit card.

The last time I bought mp3s from there, I needed to go through a Japanese proxy to mask that I wasn't from Japan. I ordered 221 so I don't need to buy the mp3s, but I'm also curious if anyone is able to directly purchase from Amazon.jp without going through that process (not difficult, just annoying).

I just got done trying to get mp3s from the JP Amazon and it will not let you buy mp3s on a non-Japanese credit card. Seems like you can buy the physical album from the site. Sad because the mp3s all together is around 25USD compared to 40ish USD!

Listening to the samples and I enjoyed all the SCP songs along with SEB 4 U!
