The Indie Euro Thread

Post by para_rigby » 07 Mar 2013, 14:59

Wanted to create a space for indie euro music makers. I'm going to start off with one of my favourite guys. Akyra is a guy from Japan who remixes Top 40/pop songs into Eurobeat

http://www.youtube.com/user/akyyyra?feature=watch

Here is a selected discography of his:
Drive By/ Train
I Wanna Dance With Somebody/ Whitney Houston (his made the remix for my bf who is an avid Whitney fan)
Live While We're Young/ One Direction
Good Time/ Owl City & Carly Rae Jepsen
Call Me Maybe/ Carly Rae Jepsen
What Makes You Beautiful/ One Direction
Gangnam Style/ Psy

http://www.youtube.com/user/Akirathelastgod
We also have Dani Sastre who does remixes of pop/dance songs into Eurobeat and Hyper Techno!

Discography:
Edge of Glory/ Lady Gaga
E.T./ Katy Perry (pretty much one of my favourite hyper techno tracks)
Pyromania/ Cascada
Turn Me On/ David Guetta ft Nicki Minaj (a bit Eurobeat, a bit HT)

Any other takers?

Akyra should've remixed Gangnam Style into a Hyper Techno track. Eurobeat, in general, depends so heavily on melody, but Gangnam Style has none of that. The rap track meshes pretty awfully with the frequent eurobeat synths. The instrumental sounds like it came from an entirely different song and just got cluelessly layered over the original PSY track. This producer's work from Eurobeat Forever Vol. 1 is much better because the source tunes were far more musical and thus more auspicious choices to remix.

Akira posts on the "Making Eurobeat" thread quite awesome. I love his style - Edge of Glory is awesome!

I know that he maybe can't be considered fully amateur anymore, but I discovered a couple of Sugano tracks with vocals by Travis/Odyssey/zoupzuop2 on YouTube today that I'd never heard before. They are both AMAZING and thought I'd share the links here:

Sands of Time

(oh my GOD - that synth hook!! *drools everywhere*)

Red Line

(I wish I could remember what song this reminds me of - I'm sure it's from an SEB around the turn of the 100's but I can't remember the name or artist right now!)

I don't understand? None of those artist are Indi. I should know, cuz I listen to real indi alternative rock ect..Those you mention are all mainsteam. I love Train though. Carley is pretty cool too. 8) I have a thing for Canadian Pop rock. Kelly Clarkson isn't indi, but her songs fit Eurobeat nicely.

That song should be put down like a wounded horse and never be spoken of again :D

Indie both means the rock music genre as well as released independent (not on a big label, in this case avex). ;)

It's not the artists but the person who remixed them that are being called indie.

Classic Nando. Lyrics heavily inspired from Alice Cooper's Poison.

Anyway, I like the new song. Sounds great for Initail D series, but maybe a bit overloaded in lyrics. I also think the song would have fit better your vocal style from that song "Lunatic". It's little difference to some, but I noticed it.

Sugano is the writer you collaborated with on "Faithful Heart" ,right? Wondeful song with EPIC intro.

Mm, this song is confessedly pretty darn old, so it doesn't quite have my best songwriting. I think I worked on that after, what, TEB3 or so? Also, I didn't have quite so much freedom with "Red Line" as I did with "LUNATIC" (even though I did have more TIME with the former than the latter!), and wanted to keep the collab solid and the original a bit more experimental. Glad you enjoyed those!
A lot's changed in the decade and a half I've been here.

Personally, I prefer Sands of Time. I still cannot get over that amazing hook!! Seriously - one of the best I've ever heard in any independent Eurobeat song!!

Any idea where I could maybe purchase Sands of Time and Red Line (I'm afraid of your answer, but thought I'd ask anyway ;))

Edit: It's okay, I've found them - $1 each in any format, bargain! :D

Edit 2: Sands of Time has a different intro on that Bandcamp version (it's a bit too messy and doesn't have the muted intro of the main hook which I love...) - and there's more guitar, but I kinda prefer the YouTube version... hmm, the search goes on ;)

Sands Of Time's youtube version isn't on a music distribution website. :-(
Original Version is included in "Densha de D Lightning Stage Original Soundtrack" but this original version is different from youtube version about bassdrum. :-(

Soundtrack is on Melonbooks DL.
