Reviews: Back to Index

The albums have been graded on the most common grading system used in Finnish schools. Where 4 is the worst, and 10 is the best. The final score for the album is most of the times the average for all of the tracks, though it can also change if the reviewer wishes so. The Super Eurobeat Non-Stop albums will be reviewed as full collections, and the individual songs won't be reviewed, unless they are completely new. Though Euromach and JGTC albums for example will have complete song by song reviews.
The grading system simply goes as ie. 4- (3,75), 4 (4), 4+ (4,25) and 4½ (4,5) and the next one again would be 5-. A simple system we have over here in Finland.

1.Denise - Guilty (Delta)
The album starts off sounding rather interesting, but the song is really a good definition for the word 'anticlimax'. The chorus doesn't offer anything interesting and the vocals don't got any hooks in them what so ever. In the end one of the crappiest album openers in SEB history. The drums in the background sound nice though...

2.Derreck Simons - This Time (A-Beat C)
The mediocore level still continues as one of the most average performers from A-Beat C is set loose. A rather standard song with a good c-melody and nice electric guitars but apart from them, this song is plain boring. Not a very impressive beginning for this album.

3.Margaret - Waiting For Your Love (A-Beat C)
At this point I was getting kind of scared, the abnormally low level continues with this song. A song that has a decent chorus and nice backgrounds but it's also very standard in every way. Not bad, nor good.
Rating : 6+

4.Casanova - I Would Die For You (Delta)
This song begins with the exactly same kind of vocals as my childhood favorite Alexia's Virtual reality (Well there's a slight difference but the vocals sound really identical, oh and Alexia is an Italian artist if you didn't already know that, a great eurodance artist if I may say so...). That gives the song some sort of pity points at least, also this song is not a very typical eurobeat song. It sounds more like eurodance and features some nice effects in the backgrounds. Otherwise the synths sound pretty normal and the song could've been more variable.

5.Lolita - Highway (A-Beat C)
Now I am really worried, when Lolita's songs don't even sound great there has to be something wrong somewhere. Highway is possibly the worst track she has released to date. It's not her typical energetic style and the sounds are rather boring. The chorus creates a nice atmosphere for the song but the verses really do bad for this track. Let me tell you, I'm disappointed, but on the other hand this had to happen sometime.

6.Victoria - Sexy Toy (Come And Try Me) (Time)
The song starts out with a really adorable intro, and when the melody kicks in we're treated to a pretty cool song. The track has slightly lighter backgrounds than eurobeat in general but it works really well this time. The song isn't a huge masterpiece or anything but with the level of this album it's one of the better ones in the crowd.
Rating : 8

7.Dave Rodgers - I Was Made For Lovin' You (A-Beat C)
I've gone through multiple debates about Dave's vocals and this track was actually the one that really made me realize how .. err... not good he sounds. I'm fully aware of the huge numbers of people who like his voice and his songs, but I just can't comprehend any of them. This song is pure torture and it's one cover that should've never ever been made.

8.Maio & Co. - Walking On The Moon (Time)
Finally, a good song! I was quite relieved to find out that there's at least a one good song on this album (well okay more to come later...). This song has a rather simple style but it works really well, the chorus and the verses merge together very well and the result is a great track.
Rating : 9-

9.Go Go Girls - Let Me Know (A-Beat C)
With the previous disappointment by Lolita I was hoping much from this track, and fortunately the Go Go Girls didn't let me down. Not the strongest performance by this group but the song in it's cheeriness lifts up the general level of this album a lot.

10.Starlet - You're Gonna Be (Delta)
When Delta is generally at work the songs have huge differences and their works don't have a huge resemblance to each other. This time we get a track that sounds more like the earlier eurobeat style and works surprisingly well, a good chorus with excellent vocals make this song a small sort of a hit.
Rating : 8+

11.High Frequency - Love In Stereo (Time)
Finally a great melody! This album really lacks those, and this track also sounds really good on other areas as well. The chorus is simple but really nice in the end. Not the most memorable song around but it does its own thing well.
Rating : 9-

12.Black Power - Prisoner Of Love (A-Beat C)
Well I'm slowly losing my belief in A-Beat C releases if songs like these get out more. A-Beat C hasn't ever before had a line-up this crappy on a SEB, well I hope this is a one time deal. A song that has a non-existant melody, there's just beats and some guitars every here and there. Pure hooey.
Rating : 6-

13.Dr. Money - Power Gun (Time)
If Super Eurobeat albums were generally the level of this album I bet there wouldn't have been a huge audience for them. This album features very many male vocalists and in the end most of the songs (as well as the vocalists) suck, just like this one. Only the c-melody after the chorus sounds good, but the rest goes on and only annoys you.
Rating : 5+

14.Valentina - Question (A-Beat C)
As my previous hopes had faded I was hoping that the last A-Beat C would at least offer something exciting and new. Alas no, I got more of the same crap. A song with nothing special what so ever. Valentina's vocals sound good but with a song this lousy it doesn't help much.
Rating : 6

15.Marko Polo - Mad Guy (Delta)
At least my last hope finally answered. Marko Polo's strong performances continue and this time he throws in a really catchy track. The song from the beginning to the end is really speedy and the chorus in particular sounds great. I don't know what's up with his vocals but he sounds really pleasant to the ear, where as the majority of other male vocalists don't. Though that's a big yay for Delta.
Rating : 9

16.Angie Davies - Jumpin' Up (Time)
Songs like this get my spirits up, but at the same time make me furious. The problem is that the song is really cheery and sounds great, but at the same time it sounds really identical to a dozen other tracks. Cloning can sometimes do good but not this time.
Rating : 7

17.Triumph - Baby, Baby Run (Time)
At this point of the album I had lost my hopes pretty completely. This song though does work rather well. More male vocals don't really cheer me up, but at least the song works nicely. A good melody with some nice effects and the female vocals really give this song the small boost it needs.
Rating : 8

18.Drama - Love For Sale (Delta)
This song has been one of the tracks I didn't really get at first. It took me a while to understand the magic of this song. The perky backgrounds and the good vocals work in a nice symbiosis. A nice wrap up for the album.

Final Words :
Well what I can say, this has to be one of the worst SEBs out there. The album doesn't have any real gems on it, it does feature a couple of good songs but nothing very memorable. Also the amount of plain crappy songs is pretty amazingly high. I wouldn't really recommend this album for too many people, perhaps the most hardcore SEB fans will get something out of it.
