How to tell other people what Super Eurobeat is.

I have been a Super Eurobeat fan for a good while now, but there is one thing that I am having a tough time with. And that is, telling people what Super Eurobeat is. When I first tell them that I like listening to it, they automatically think that it is techno just by the name. But I keep on telling them that Super Eurobeat isn't techno. I always mention that Super Eurobeat might have some techno like sounds in it, but it still isn't techno. I keep telling people that Super Eurobeat is it's own genre and that there are many different types, but they still think that it's techno. So, if anyone can help me out with this it would take a whole lot off my shoulders. Thanks

I've decided that when I explain Super Eurobeat to people who don't know what it is, I just get really specific.

"I like Eurobeat, made in Italy by 5 or so specific labels." If they say it's techno; I say "No, but here is a techno track from a Eurobeat artist so you can hear the difference" and I send them a 94 Sale song. hehe

When I would go "I like Eurobeat," some people would tell me they know what it is, and go on about a different genre from britain, germany, etc and artists from a genre that isn't Super Eurobeat - I'd got asked if I knew house artists, electronic artists, techno artists, etc. That's why I get so specific.

One guy I was chatting with was explaining that he knows everything about everything about Eurobeat (which turned out to be Techno) and he asked me for some names.

"Alessandra Gatti?" - nope
"Clara Moroni?" - nope

ok... so I use aliases

"Dave Rodgers?" - nope
"...King & Queen?" - nope
"Niko?" - nope

I tell peolpe that it's the same HI NRG from 80's just speeded up to the MAX!

I mention Bobby O, Fonny D Wolf, Sabby Rayas, SAW etc... They get my meaning

anyone who compares Eurobeat to Tecno is a DUMB ASS!

I agree whole heartedly with dr nrg. Another thing that I seem to gripe about is (at least back at my high school), many peers deemed my music as either 'techno" or "ddr music." Might as well call nearly all genres of music now "ddr music" while we are at it...since it is so general

Usually I'll just talk about Eurobeat in the context of sped-up house/disco/trance or even reference EB as being some surrogate bigger brother to J-Pop

Eventually somewhere in there people will catch my drift.

I always have my mp3 player with me, so I can give some examples of Eurobeat and Italo.

A few days ago I was in Poland at my GF's aunt's. There her cousin asked me what kind of music I liked. I gave them Eurobeat on their computer and the next moring I heard Matt Land blasting out of the cousin's room! How neat is that!?

In a suburb in Wroclaw. I've also visited Wolsztyn where there are still some steam trains in regular service(!). I really love Poland!

remeber I cruise up & down Revolution street pumping my Eurobeat on my Explode system. I really don't need to explain it when they can hear it.

The easiest way for me to explain it to whoever asks is that it's very similar to Corona's song, "Baby Baby", but sped up in tempo... that usually gets the point across.

If they ask for an example I burn them one of my mixes

You know, I used to try to explain it by saying eurodance, disco, rock, all kinds of things... but actually nowadays I just play it for people. Because eurobeat is a unique genre and quite distinct, and I have come to terms with that.

It is very similar to older Italo music, because it is made in Italy, I suppose... but besides being sped up, there are still many differences nowadays from the original Italo music.

It is the best to work out to. Period. I hope it stays around a long time.
