I skipped last week because I was on a trip to the East Coast and was too preoccupied with other things to be bothered by listening to a whole lot of eurobeat. This week I'm not commenting, but I will next time because I just bought a ton of new music with my Christmas money (and it's not even all spent yet).

1. Bubble Gum / Nick & Samantha
2. That's All Right / Dr. Money
3. Remember Me / Leslie Parrish
4. She Bangs / Dr. Love

6. Communication / Lou Grant
7. Dance Around The World / Delta Queens
8. Dance Around The World / P. Stone
9. Baccarah / Delta Queens
10. Never Forever / Leslie Parrish

I wish you have commented on this one, because a few weeks back you weren't so crazy about a track that I really found fun and entertaining. Has it grown on you? 8)

BTW...not ONE bad song on that list.(Applause)

That's the really common trend about samples - songs that don't initially draw me in often turn out to be big surprises. Usually, it's because the track sounds melodically more complete for me (as was the case for Tonight Tonight).

I love the aesthetic manipulation throughout Bubble Gum; the synth is well-stated and more noticeable because of the slower pace, and the melodic progression has a lot of unique twists and turns that hold my attention and still sound aesthetically pleasant. Out of Hi-NRG Attack's large catalogue of fast-paced, intense, and often samey (but still good) presentations, this track sticks out a lot, which is probably why I love it so much.

To the_ditz's relief, Bubble Gum is not quite my favorite song off of ParaparaCool, Vol. 5 - that honor goes to Dance Around The World and I Am Mister Blaster - but it's still easily in my top 3. There aren't any bad songs on that compilation, actually - Parapara Lemonade is a lot more melodic than I thought it would be and Velfarre 10 has a synth that is a lot lighter and more basic than usual but still works excellently in its simplistic charm - however Bubble Gum is on the better end.

Top 20 this week, since I've been listening to eurobeat a whole lot as of late. I'm also adding comments and ratings for songs that I have not reviewed yet, which will also complete my review of all of Eurobeat Masters, Vol. 19's new tracks, all of which are extremely good imo.

1/1/09:

1. Love & Peace / A-Beat Sisters (10+++): This song is like the peak of all group performances for me. I get goosebumps just hearing that super-uplifting melodic progression that just oozes of A-Beat C magic in every way. The chorus is the grand highlight, but the song develops even more once it enters a key change and later a cool synth solo. A shining gem out of the A-Beat C catalogue for me, and honestly a lot better than Anniversary imo. I made this the last eurobeat song I listened to in 2008, as it definitely seemed like the perfect track to suit the mood for that.

2. Rock You / Mad Max

3. Dark Secret Love / Queen 26 (10+++): Ooooh, this song is VERY GOOD! Capaldi never fails really, but here he really approaches a completely new level of awesomeness. This song's melody just flares with intensity, taking the whole Latin thing and sparking it up like never before. The synths and beats? Yeah, they're pretty darn perfect. But what really seems to dazzle to my ears are the vocals. I've always really enjoyed Elisa's songs, but I never realized she was that good. Her smooth voice delivers everything with so much perfect enthusiam, it's amazing. I love especially how she raises her vocals as soon as the chorus starts but then pleasantly cools down every other 2 measures, showing both of her tallented sides without any fail. This is by far one of the most charismatic eurobeat performances I've ever heard and easily the best new Delta release from both albums, alongside Rock You.

4. Space Invader / Jimmy Diamond

5. Born To Love You / Kochiss (10+): I never really recalled this track all that much before until I eventually discovered that it shared its same structural base with the awesome Fever by Paul Harris. The fact that this track is produced by Capaldi already means I don't have much else to say, but it's still an incredibly hot and fresh performances that works effectively in pretty much every way possible. Despite being a counterpart track to Fever, this song has a completely different twist to it that gives it its charm. Whereas Fever is an all-out mysterious-sounding production, Born To Love You has a lot of powerful drive throughout its melodic structure and main synthline.

6. Fever / Paul Harris (10+)

7. Baby Illusion / Mike West (10): Easily my favorite Mike West release throughout the years, alongside the beautiful Mystery (You Are). Baby Illusion falls under the general category of being a more aggressive male Time release, which already promises a lot, but for a change it's also a lot more melodic than, say, A Perfect Hero (another great track, don't get me wrong). I love the muted guitar riff in the intro, which builds up some tension before the main synthline pops in, and once the vocal phrases kick in, things stay nearly as catchy for the remainder of the track. The melodic structure is really memorable and progresses wihthout any fail. The whole package is very well-rounded and stands out as just one of the many perfect tracks off of SEB 173.

8. Speed Man / Dave Simon (10+++): Yet another fantastic male performance taken off SEB 173. Speed Man is Dave Simon's last song, but also one of his best. I didn't go wild about this track originally, but having become a lot more interested in Time/Eurogrooves over the past couple of years, I'm suddenly completely blown away after having listened to it again. A perfect representation of the label at its most fueled-up state, Speed Man is loaded with incredibly full-on synths, a pounding beat, and backup guitars added in for an even greater impact. It's quite similar to Heartbreaker 2007, but the b and c-melodies in particular stand out completely differently and carry this song in a whole new direction of intensity and excitement. This track needs to show up on Initial D at some point, even if it's slightly old by now.

9. That's All Right / Dr. Money (10+): Well, what can you expect with a song titled "That's All Right"? How about one of the strongest, most memorable productions that Dima himself ever made? Yes, Davide Di Marcantonio is a tallented eurobeat composer, but he really injected the most of his talent into this classic piece from the late 1990's. His orchestral, regal prominence is present as usual, but with sheer perfect construction. The melody is very, very powerful throughout and especially works wonders during the infectious chorus. Lou Grant is easily Davide Di Marcantonio's best Time alias, but with this track and also My Love Is Crazy 4 You to offer, Dr. Money isn't so far behind.

10. Stuck On You / David "Off"

11. I Can Fly Like An Angel / Karina (10+): SEB 98 was a surprisingly excellent album for Elena Ferretti. I actually really enjoyed all of her performances there (plus Love & Peace), but I Can Fly Like An Angel is probably the one that stands out the most. Time is notorious for using the recycled formula with Elena Ferretti probably more than anyone else, but this masterpiece is a completely different story. It completely puts away the standard ingredients and goes above and beyond melodically, showcasing itself as one of the most uplifting and uniquely excellent eurobeat songs I've heard so far. The vocoder is heavily used throughout the whole song, but as Elena's vocals are no slouch in any way, the effect works and adds to the distinct electro environment of the production.

12. Macho Man / Lolita (10): Yes, I am capable of really loving a Lolita track, so long as it actually has a lot of substance to take advantage of her vocals. This is basically a classic, late 90's A-Beat C offering with an irresistable synthline and a vocal melody that allows for a lot of charisma. While not quite my favorite Elena Gobbi song of all time (you'll find that out eventually), it's definitely worth picking up in extended format if you use mu-mo.net. Gotta love that sax solo during the breakup phrase.

13. Rock In The Fire / Roswell (10): It's like a trip back to 1994/1995, but with fresh, new synths and the newcomer Luca Lanzano on the vocals. Rock In The Fire is quite a bit lighter and not as fast as the general drift of eurobeat productions nowadays, but it shines for bringing in a lot of innovative characteristics while still carrying that old-school melodic feel at the same time. Fun stuff, definitely.

14. Running For The Fame / Kimmy (10): This was probably recorded last Summer because the lyrics seem to be about the Olympics, hence the fact that you can also hear "Running For The Flame" in addition to the song title throughout the lyrics. Like any Kimmy song, the melodic structure of this track is just so delightfully beautiful, equipped with top-notch vocals, that it pretty much gets the perfect rating by default. I wouldn't call this production quite as unique as My Oh My and My Stars were, but it still catches an infectious eurodance feel while still sounding like a straight eurobeat song.

15. Before I Go / Paul Harris (10): Everything that other people have commended about this track is undeniably true; this song is very charming with its poppy melodic progression, absolutely spot-on vocal delivery, and perfectly light-yet-strong backdrops. It surely achieves nothing short of success.

16. Spark In The Dark / Man Power (10-): That guitar riff in the intrro just grabs my attention so starkly. And since this track was produced by Leonardi during the late 90's, absolutely nothing else can be expected to fail. Even though the melodic notes don't explore a particularly broad range throughout, it's still a polished-up and catchy production that can hold my attention span for ages.

17. Love Is Gonna Get You / Crystal (10+++): Thought I'd just add my rating for this track, since it's just such a gorgeous piece and still gives me chills whenever I play it!

18. I'm In Love With You / Dave Simon (10): I honestly don't see any major resemblance to Before I Go in this track, but that's probably because the key is entirely different. Still, it's easily one of Dave Simon's strongest performances of his career and honestly stands out a lot more imo than I Need Your Love, which I think I overlooked a bit at first; it's a nice track, but the vocal delivery isn't nearly as good as it is in this song; the De Leo remake from SEB 187 works better in that respect.

19. Remember Me / Leslie Parrish (10+): A classic. Beautiful orchestral elements add a sense of grandeur during the intro, and the melodic structure addresses it perfectly, setting the stage with a very dark and mysterious feel that leaves the song as a very powerful, bold, and groundbreaking package that surely deserved all the recognition it inherited. Leslie Parrish's other songs from the first few years of Delta are also completely stellar.

20. Doctor Doctor 2007 / Lisa Johnson (10++): The original wasn't bad, but this cover takes its basic structure and reworks it into something entirely new and innovatively infectious. The busy synth hook works wonders with its full-on, "call-and-response" approach, and the backup sounds thrust the catchy vocal melody to a completely new level. Simply eurobeat gold in every way possible, and probably the most spot-on effective cover in the Time/Eurogrooves catalogue, and that's stating quite a lot.

HM:
- Feel The Night / Lisa Johnson
- Go Wild / Dusty
- Doctor Love 2009 / Kevin & Cherry
