Anyways, it seems that Saifam has now officially run out of ideas for new Eurobeat. These samples seem to use a few more productions techniques from the older Asia style, but enough of the rehashed covers already - I want to hear some new original material!

Anyway, my prediction is that Orlando will appear on SEB 207.

They need to hire someone new to write their songs. At least the rest of the labels still active are consistently able to produce original material that isn't just a minor revival of a remake.

Or maybe it's just that they don't see any point of writing new songs because they figure hardly anyone's going to listen to them. Gosh, I wish eurobeat would become more popular beyond Japan so we could finally be done with this severe lack of motivation.

New or Old; I notice that Saifam seem to be getting most of the attention on the latest SEB releases, maybe that is the Farina stragety? In other worlds it seems they have been sitting on undiscovered gems all along and just be switching a soundwolrd here or there, they are fast regaining thier Eurobeat crown.

It seems all labels go down this path eventually. Whenever the creative juices have run dry, out come the plethora of remakes and blatant rehashes passed off as "brand new"! Even though some of SAIFAM's remakes have been quite good ('You Are Always On My Mind' in particular), it's extremely difficult to take them seriously as a label anymore when they haven't shown us a hint of originality all year.

It's a cover of Morgana's A Sign. I still think the Akasaka mix was very good, but this eurobeat version is nice as well.

There are hints of the old Asia stylings there, which is promising, but they still clearly don't have the time, energy or motivation to dedicate much time to Eurobeat since this is another cross-label re-hash. I will probably purchase this just to support "new Eurobeat" in this lean time, and I hope that we get more original material soon.

Honestly, I'm not going to bother supporting Saifam again unless they release more original material. Certainly now isn't really the most opportune time for them to produce new stuff in hopes that it'll get some widespread attention, but nonetheless, purchasing these covers isn't going to get them out of this pathetic habit.

I don't understand the disappointments about SAIFAM's remakes. I may be wrong but I would really be surprised if any of you really played the original songs to death back in the days, got bored of them and therefore can't stand the songs anymore. Unless that is the case, the songs are probably new to most eurobeat listeners, so you might as well try to listen to them without prejudice

It's just being lazy! Besides, most of these covers are frankly a lot blander than their original counterparts, so there's pretty much no reason for me to listen to them in the first place. Case in point - the Danger Zone cover from SEB 212. While it isn't really bad per se, it just doesn't have any of the same spark that made the Top Gun version so catchy. The combination of Kenny Loggins' sharp vocals and the 80's hard rock instrumentation just worked with the tune so much more effectively than this bland interpretation. Granted, there are a few exceptions (I actually quite like the cover of Just A Dream way more than the Nelly version, although that's not really eurobeat), but I'm just sick of constantly having to compare these remakes to their original sources when they rarely stack up.

I KNOW Asia Records is capable of much better than all of these unimaginative remakes that they somehow try to promote as "new." Their last few original songs were mostly excellent (Ivanhoe, Superphenomena, and Technological World come to mind), so it's not like they got significantly worse or anything.

I see where you are comming from ,from one point of view. I agree on the lazy factor, but only if the remake is from the dance genre. The reason is, that making a remake from an allready known dance song isn't such a st;etch for Eurobeat. Its basiaclly just speeding up the tempo, like those Madonna covers they did. I don't like covers of recent pop songs nither , because now adays pop is more dance than anything else. Unless they decide to cover Nickelback or Shinedown, which I doubt they will.
, but I'll go on the record and say, that I do enjoy most Eurobeat covers of 80 Rock songs. The Danger Zone cover was nice. The Jailhouse Rock one was even better. I've been on Saifams site before and have even previewed covers of songs like "Shake It UP" ect.. from the 80s. A rock cover sounds completely different in that, the intruments are usually always from a different soundworld. I see more of a creative and original factor when I hear covers like those.

Dall Ora and Dima also did great New Wave covers on SEB 193. Save A Prayer is a bonifide classic

In closing, I don't care too much for this Morgana cover, but only cuz its a dance song to begin with. That's where I agree with your "laziness" factor.


BTW, does anyone have a link to the Saifam site that is actually useful for previewing the songs without all those ram files. Something where you actually just click on the headphone icon and the song starts playing without B.S.?
