Juno 320 MP3 vs WAV

Post by Super Racing » 15 Dec 2008, 02:56

Are the WAV files higher quality and worth the extra cost if the files are being downloaded to make a cd?

Thanks!

WAV are lossless files. If you are an audiophile, buy the lossless. Otherwise, buy the MP3 320 to save money.

Of course, if you want to make original CDs like if you bought a CD off a local store, you need the WAV files... If it doesn't matter much, just buy the 320kbps ones.

Fixed for truth. There's almost no scenario where the 192 file is going to sound appreciably different from the 320 file. At those bitrates, things like pre-echo and other artifacts are a failing of the codec's psychoacoustic model and don't go away when you throw more bits at them.

No. There is hearable difference between 192 and 320. Only people using small mp3 player or "mighty" ipod cannot hear the difference.

But if you can hear the difference, it's time to move on to lossless formats.
