Not defending Christina because I thought her new song was shit, but isn't her looking like Gaga/Madonna/Whoever suppose to be the whole point of the video? I mean, the song is called NOT MYSELF TONIGHT....

You mean this chart?

http://uk.launch.yahoo.com/c/uk/single_charts.html

I thought things might be different in the U.K., but It's just as bad. .You got all the horrible team ups. The Deluros, The Rihanna's and some new ones to top it off...and of course, Ke$ha too. A bunch of World cup inspired songs(Shakira sells out) and Glee Club covers of Gaga. I really couldn't stomach half the music on that chart. Some songs were too out there even for me. WTF is Vindaloo? I think I even saw Journey's classic Don't Stop Believing? That song deserves to be among better music, that's for sure.

The songsI did like are at the bottom of the chart.
Scouting For Girls, Florence & The Machine,Muse, Pretty Reckless,Ellie Goulding, Plan B.,Vika Jugulina. You won't see these artists in the U.S. top 10 that's for sure.

Too bad we don't get Pixxi Lott in the U.S. She's pretty and her songs are fun without being stupid.

Nah, If I was in the U.K., I would turn off my radio too. 8)

I think the bottomline is this : You hate most modern pop music with a passion and probably just about everything that gets heavy airplay on MTV or radios = Sounds the same and thus, Fail. Well, You have your own right to be biased of course ...

Funny though, Because even though I am not even close to living near or am an american, American pop music still gets a lot of hype in my area. I remembered you being one of the older members around here, Could that be a reason why you think modern pop songs fail as compare to your self defined "Glory days of modern pop music" ? Because your statements such as "Musically speaking the industry is going backwards and it shows in the 2000s" sure doesn't apply to me and the people around me since we all thought that most pre-2000s modern pop were just awful to listen to.

I don't know 100% about the american pop industry but the way I see it, The whole Christina X Gaga affair is a small matter that shouldn't be a basis for everything sounding the same.

P.S : I liked all of Jason Derulo's songs. :D

I'm doing and have done no such thing. You're the one who's ragging on about a specific set of artists, and if you bothered to pay attention, you'd find out that they share a very limited set of producers who work for all of them at some point.

Sound familiar?

Pretty much how SAW operated?

SAW made it pretty obvious that they worked with all these artists, whereas the producers for artists like Beyoncé, Lady GaGa, etc. don't tend to stamp their names on it.

Heck, Stuart Price, famed for working with 80s groups like New Order and Pet Shop Boys, is producing albums for BOTH Kylie Minogue and the Scissor Sisters, which are due out at exactly the same time. So it wouldn't surprise me if there's some crossover in terms of 'feel' right now.

But the one argument you've comprehensively failed to diffuse is that there's no creativity in the modern charts. There is bucket loads of it, but you are quite ignorantly hell-bent on focussing on a very narrow-visioned view of it where you see only the generic stuff that, yes, does work its way up the charts (because there's a lot of people who like a lot of crap).

But I look at the UK charts and see interesting and original stuff like:

Kelis / Acapella
Plan B / She Said
Train / Hey Soul Sister
Eliza Doolittle / Skinny Genes
Fyfe Dangerfield / She's Always A Woman

These have all charted high at some point. The charts are full of originals, and the charts are full of copycats. I've got news for you: They've ALWAYS been like this, and they always will be. And a lot of people like a lot of crap, don't get me wrong - but that doesn't mean some of this stuff isn't original. Listen to music from now and compare it with stuff 10 years ago - there is a marked difference. This stuff does evolve, and some of it is to my taste and some of it isn't.

Stop deluding yourself into believing we've left behind some 'golden age' of pop music. From the sounds of your posts you don't even bother to listen to most of this music, which rather undermines your argument at the starting gate. Don't bash what you don't take the time to appreciate.

I'm pretty sure you'd get rather defensive if someone took one tiny listen to Eurobeat and ignorantly bashed the whole genre for being a pile of copycat rubbish.

Its funny that he calls pop copycat music when the eurobeat he typically praises the most are the tracks that sounds like another track. And you're probably right Mike, its because most of us here are in our 20s while drnrg is closing in on 40 in the next few years. Hindsight is not only 20/20 but always viewed through rose tinted glasses.

didn't you read what I posted? I said Eurobeat has always been like that from the start and that's exactly what I liked about it. It's when it starts sounding too different that I don't care too much for it, cuz Eurobeat is the closest style to my Hi- Energy hey days of the 80s ....and yes the age thing has to do with it. Lets see how you view pop music when you are in your late 30's? When It will no doubt be sung by a bunch of machines and electric devices.

I actually looked up all 75 songs on U.Ks chart on Youtube. I mentioned Plan B., but left out Train, cuz I liked them from the start and I posted my own list of the songs I do like. That list you posted is actually from the better end of that chart. I noticed you didn't mention any dance artist in the top 10. The difference with those artists you mentioned and Pixxie Lott is that they aren't trying to be a joke like the majoraty of American POP stars.it's the magoraty of those all dance songs that all seem to have the same melody and rapping. When did POp turn into a bunch of Urban Hip Hop dance songs? I fail to see that as creative. I expect more from POP music than a bunch of rehashing, beacuse it was never like that untill now. Even rock songs today rehash that same melody over and over. I can understand Eurobeat running out of melodies that carry that Italo sound, but POP music? Highly unlikely.

My favourite POP group right now is a group of chaps from Norway. They are called Donkeyboy and have very 80s inspired POP music. With nice singing vocals. Thier songs give you a good feeling. They are on Youtube if you wanna check em out.

The reason the public likes scrap, is because that is what they are offered. The people are not even the ones that choose music. It's the record labels. and Ever since clear channel took over the air waves, there are less and less artists that are given air TIME., so people are not given much of a choice when it comes to POP music. You have to pretty much be in that little circle of Urban Hip Hop stars to break out nowadays. I think that's the reason most of that music sounds the same. You can pretty much count the amount of artists breaking out nowadays in one hand. Whereas, in the years behind, there were so many more styles and artists to choose from. and correct me if I'm wrong , but the majoraty of songs nowadays are team ups. What's wrong? are they afraid of a little competition?

and we have left a golden age of musc behind. That's why 80s songs are now concidered classics as well as 70s and 60's Let's see if 20 years from now the pop music of today is concidered classic. Will Gaga reach Madonna status? , No, because 10 more Gagas will spring up this year. I don't even think Nickelback will reach Motley Crue status.

You guys can listen to your pop music if you choose, I'm just saying don't close yourself off to what the media is offerening you, There is a lot of better talent out there then what's on American Pop charts..

and I would like to end my rant with one simple question.
I'm pretty sure you all figured out by now that my listening weekly habits is mosly compliled of Eurobeat and Rock with the occasional Katy Perry or Daughtry pop song here and there, what of the rest of you?

1. Donkeyboy- Stereolife
2. Stone Temple Pilots- Between The Lines
3. Neon Trees- Animal
4. Michael Buble- Havn't Met You Yet
5. Scouting For Girls- This Ain't A Love Song
6. Moderatto- Zodiaco
7. Ratt- Best Of Me
8. Devo- Fresh(yes they are back)
9. Kelly Clarkson- All I Ever Wanted
10. Katy Perry & Snoop Dog- California Gurls( a very fun pop song)

In an attempt to get this topic back on to the original thread of conversation, I thought I'd write my review for Super Eurobeat vol. 204. Don't expect it to be as positive as 203 as I still think a large proportion of this album is filler rather than killer, but there are still some gems...

01 JAGER / I WON'T FALL APART (SCP) [04:19]
Mike Snap of Blast! makes a welcome crossover to the Super Eurobeat family under SCP, and this track more than any on this album probably got more hype after the original samples were posted. The vocal style is very different to the almost Dima-esque quality that his vocals have under Blast! aliases (Saetta Kid in particular), and I think it is this part of the song more than any other that gives it a slight poppy feel. I think of Scandinavian acts such as Bosson and Magnus Carlsson who use the falsetto tones in their vocals quite frequently. The intro to this track is its main weakness - the "hollowed tree trunk wail" as I like to call it just sounds really freaky and doesn't really hold any relation to the rest of the song. I said previously that this track also suffers from a sense of emptiness at various parts of the production, and I stand by this. SCP has always been renouned for rich and layered productions that surround the listener in a 3D soundscape. Here, the verse in particular leaves me feeling a bit cold - some added arp layers or string synths would give the sound a much richer a more create feeling. Overall, I do feel that this track is one of the stars of the album, but more for the song-writing itself rather than the production values. I'm looking forward to hearing more Jager tracks in future (and on that note, is it pronounced Jagger, as in Mick Jagger, or Yay-ger??)
Score: 8+

02 STELLA / FOREVER FLY (SCP) [05:17]
I didn't really give this track a second glance after the samples - it sounded just a bit weak and too sentimental for me, like a bad Christine B-side. However, upon hearing the full version, I can safely say that this track is the big surprise of the whole album for me. We get that anthemic reverb piano hook and gentle guitar arpeggios during the verse that create a magical and dreamy atmosphere. I can tell that this track was probably produced around the same time as "My Sweet Forever" by Pamsy as it has the same overall feel to it, albeit with slightly less bite. The message behind the lyrics is very positive and you can't help but feel better and smile when you listen to this track, no matter what kind of day you've had. A very fine vocal performance from Stella adds to an already very assured performance from SCP. In many ways, I feel that this track is probably a much more well-rounded song that I Won't Fall Apart, but the fact that it doesn't quite have the same quirkiness or bite will mean that sadly the majority of listeners may overlook it. For those who give it a chance, a treat is in store :)
Score: 9

03 POWERFUL T. - FACE THE RACE (A-Beat C) [04:45]
Powerful T. tracks of late have fallen in to two clear categories for me - tuneful yet aggressive anthems or tuneless wailing noises. Thankfully, this track falls in to the former of the two. There are little subtle touches that make it stand out from the other A-Beat C testosterone bursts - the synth flourishes that sound like videogames in the verses, the climax that builds in the melody through the bridge to the chorus. The other thing that I really notice about this track is the fact that Powerful T.'s vocals are given a chance to shine without being strained. We can actually hear the true vocal talents that he has away from all the ridiculous insane wailing that other tracks have. Of course, we have the obligatory guitar solo, which doesn't really act as much of a highlight probably because the rest of the song is so strong. Who'd have ever thought that I'd be complimenting a Powerful T. track for the melodic progression and gentle synth flourishes...what is the world coming to??
Score: 9+

04 LOLITA / GOOD LOVE & MYSTERY (Go-Go's Music) [04:48]

Oh sweet lord of all that is pure and screechy - Lolita is my goddess on this album without a shadow of a doubt!! From the moment the track starts, we are straight in to the good stuff - really strong and assured vocals, more key changes than you can shake a Korg at, and an overall feeling that this track is just the most awesome female song that Go-Go's Music has ever produced. There is a slight industrial feel about the breakdowns during the intro, but the song on the whole is made of pure liquid gold. Of course, the old-school Lolita fanboys seem worried that she has lost her spark and unique screechy style, but for me this track sounds like it was perfectly crafted to allow her true style shine through. All of the high peaks and low valleys of the melody allow us to hear just how mature her vocals have become - no longer do we have the nightmare of Jealousy or even the slightly crazed feeling of Heart Attack, but rather we have a true Eurobeat vocal legend showing us her own style but in a more adult way. Vocals aside, I just can't get over how awesome the melodies are - I find myself singing this track uncontrollably at the top of my voice when it comes on my iPod in the car. You should all know by now that I have a real weak spot for key changes, and this track uses them even more than the awesome Don't Let Me Go. I also love the more meaty brass hit synth that is used in the main hook, and the fact that we are treated to some genuine breakdowns during the second half of the song. I cannot praise this song enough, and it is easily the best GGM track that has been released this decade.
Score: 10

05 MANUEL / ALL IS MAGIC (Dima Music) [05:19]
Poor Manuel. He's always been in my top 3 male Eurobeat stars, and virtually all of his tracks from his A-Beat C days were firm favourites. When he moved to Go-Go's Music, he lost some of his melodic flair but still had that cheeky Manuel spark. Now he is at Dima, he seems to have been given a bit more creative control, and it seems that this track is the first from the mind of the man himself. There seems to have been a very strong reaction to this song in the community, which to me has seemed very extreme. Sure, this track is probably as far away as you can get from No Control and Ready Steady Go! in Eurobeat style terms, but is that any reason to dismiss it straight out of hand. If you look below the surface, we find the same Manuel that we've always known - a cheeky and quirky lyric (that doesn't always make sense) is backed up by a fairly rollercoaster melody - the verse is the slow climb to the first drop, the bridge sees us reaching the top and finally the chorus takes us up and down and round the 360 loops. I don't like every part of this song - the 7th & 8th bar/measure of the chorus still sounds horribly sung and out of tune, and the hook - although catchy - doesn't quite fit the rest of the song like a good hook should. However, all things considered, I am really excited to hear how the relationship between Dima and Manuel develops. I've thought for a long time that Dima has needed a strong flagship male other than the main producer to act as a vocalist, and now we have him - welcome to your new home Manuel!!
Score: 8+

06 MELA - SANDY (Saifam/Asia) [05:13]
I never liked this version of the track and I always felt like it was a completely unnecessary remix from the more moody and tuneful original Factory Team Mix. Instead, we have to put up with this twee euro-pop parody of a Grease b-side. The horribly sickly sweet positivity of the song really makes me quite irritated, and I find it hard to listen to this track from start to finish. I think I have probably just become really tired of the same old production methods from Mr. Farina and friends - the samples of the tracks from 205 already sound 10 times better than this. Even the disco breakdown and intro here irritate the hell out of me. I don't know - I guess I just like my Eurobeat with a bit less glitter and pom-poms...
Score: 4

Actually, the desire to review this album in full has left me completely now I'm act this stage. All of the best tracks have already past, and I wouldn't give anything above a 7 for the rest (mostly sub 5's though).

TOP 3:
LOLITA / GOOD LOVE & MYSTERY
POWERFUL T. / FACE THE RACE
STELLA / FOREVER FLY

HM:
JAGER / I WON'T FALL APART
MANUEL / ALL IS MAGIC

BOTTOM 3:
Take your pick from the rest...
...but I especially hate HEAT ME UP, CATACLYSM NIGHT and SANDY.

Roll on 205 - it can only get better :???:

It's hilarious you say this cuz I think Mike Snap on Blast sounded nothing like DIMA. His vocals are really hyped to the point of sounding more like a hyped up Nando. I actually find Mike Snap's vocals horrible, but his songs were so damn good that I kinda overlooked that major flaw. On the other hand, There were a few Dima songs that were hyped like Tommy K.- Take Me Now, but for the most part Dima sounded a bit more like Gino Caria with his deep style of Millenium and $1,000s. Even his accent was more profound back then.

A good review so far. I know you will take a crap on some of my favourit trax on the cd, but I still would like to read it, just to know exactly were you think they went wrong. I'm funny that way.

has anyone uploaded the lyrics to JAGER / I WON'T FALL APART??
i bought the MP3s and would like to song along!!

i can barely make out the chorus....i guess when i see the lyrics i will understand why people think this song is great...i mean i like the song but a huge case of i cant understand (and i have tried even with vocal booster on) so i skip it!!

and to add, i absolutely hated lady gaga untill about 3 weeks ago....i now quite like her!! having seen video clips and actually listened to her music...

as a person who listens to the radio at work ALOT i can see where people may think pop music sounds the same or is not creative, that said there are the occasional gem that slips through!!

I WONT FALL APART / JAGER
(S. Castagna - C. Codenotti - F. Cordioli - E. Somenzi)

You really made a mess of me - no baby don't deny it
A ghost of my nights, so sweet - I will forget about it
Your love like a nail in deep - but now it's healin' away
You left me here to bleed
I'll mend alone this bitter feelin'

I'll fight the fears
And dry my tears
Won't try any more, oh never no more
The words so pure
They're punchin' bold
And startin' to blow

Get out of my head
Get out of my heart
Away baby, I won't fall apart
Get out of my head
Get out of my heart
I'm tellin' you I won't fall apart
I'll smile again
Run again
No one else, nobody nobody
Cheatin' me
Foolin' me
Like you did, nobody nobody no

You think I'll be there on my knees - no baby don't deny it
In pieces cryin' out my pain - I will forget about it
I'll breathe alone, I feel so free - but now it's healin' away
I'll you dream your dream
Away from me, hands off my feelings

**Note - the actual lyrics in verse 1 read "You let me here to bleed" but I think "left" makes more sense, so that's what I sing!!

Sorry to bump an old topic but I was just curious, why was the music video for All Is Magic removed from YouTube? Did AVEX have something to do with it?
