@Tiger I wouldn't have problems buying SEB more if 1, that I wouldn't be encouraging big corporations 2, if I wasn't paying 35$ each volume.

eh? Big corporations are a pretty much accepted fact of life by now. Just look at your internet/phone/TV bill...

@Vadim Have you ever tried to contact Avex before? If so, what email address/form did you use? Did they respond to anything about eurobeat? I don't think it's very easy to communicate to the right people about eurobeat these days :x
On several occasions over the years. Actually I went to Avex website for a very first contact. They had some email contacts listed. I don't remember which email I used though. Back in the day they passed such a message to eurobeat people at Avex.
Some present key eurobeat figures from Avex may also have Facebook presence..

I don't know what you're talking about.
Yeah I heard the producers where meeting with Avex for the yearly meeting at MIDEM in Cannes this past weekend or maybe its next weekend to discuss SEB. Would hardly seem like they would have a conference if Avex was just ending SEB unless its to discuss a severence package...

If you are using any product that uses the internet, are not running a free operating system, have a device that plays music, have headphones through which you listen to music, or have paid for a television/cable, telephone or even most canned foods, you have already supported several large corporations.
May I never let my passion obstruct my respect for others again.

days of posting and this is the only news with even a hint of positivity to it.
maybe it was a weeakend of Brain storming? never the less, I hope some good ideas to keep the series fresh were put on the table. Wonder if Dall Ora and Farina were also present at this meeting? I'm thinking thier return to the series would bring something new for 2012.

I remeber liking the SEBs with a theme.

@zoup & @tiger
Those are like, almost, obligatory purchase. Nobody escapes that. But, when it comes to music, you always have the choice. That's what I wanted to say. I'm more enclined to buy directly from the producers or indie compilations instead of buying an actual CD from Avex. At least, that's the case for Eurobeat.

They're not on indie compilations anymore and they can't sell directly to fans very often (if at all). They have ONE source of revenue (sales of their tracks on Super Eurobeat), and if that's not being satisfied then they're getting nothing.

Exactly - I don't get your argument at all Lebon. We need to support the labels, and if the only way we can do that is through purchasing avex releases then so be it. I wish labels had more freedom, but they don't and to be honest I'm not sure how many more releases we would get if the labels released independently anyway...

Would there no be any success if SEB was gone and that the labels came together to have a monthly digital release? Wouldn't that be feasible for both the labels and the fans in terms of marketing costs and revenue? Hell, maybe another eurobeat, non-Avex compilation series only released digitally via iTunes, Juno, or Bandcamp?

Lastly, does anyone know why Avex material was taken off American iTunes? I was pretty miffed about that since I was still wanting to buy tracks.

Rumor has it that it had something to do with iTunes match. And, it wasn't just Eurobeat, it was anything Avex-related, so it must go higher than a couple genres in this case.

I figured it wasn't just euro stuff when I went looking for some Ayumi Hamsaki material. I died a bit inside when I saw everything was gone.

If people are not paying for Super Eurobeat, then Super Eurobeat has no money to work with. They don't have radio play, they don't have merchandising, they don't have licensing, they don't have anything like that. ALL THEY HAVE is direct sales. And sales are low.

There's no time for "they don't release it in UnusualFileFormat where I can hear the artist coughing in the highest of frequencies so I'm not gonna buy it".
There's no time for "they don't release it on vinyl, and I only buy vinyl so I'm not going to buy it".
There's no time for "I can afford a fancy computer and several high-end video games, but I can't afford music".
And most importantly, there's no time for "Super Eurobeat artists and labels don't work hard enough for my money" or "some of the money goes to avex a bloohoohoo".

Either Super Eurobeat is making money or it is dying.

If you want SEB to survive, but can't afford the albums... get a job/start saving up. No excuses. In fact, if you're serious about keeping it alive, I recommend you buy several albums. Complete your collection. Start one. Legitimize your existing one. Whatever. But whatever you do, do SOMETHING. If the only way we can get Super Eurobeat in our hands is importing, then let's import the everloving crap out of a series that has for more than 20 years earned our devotion.

We just can't afford to sit idly and watch one of the most important Eurobeat compilations vanish into the void.
