Eurobeat Prime :: Forum

Given that this is Eurobeat, I'm hoping that there'll be a quite a few of these. I'm talking about the hidden (& sometimes not so hidden) stuff that producers just insert into their tracks.

I was listening to Eurobeat Flash vol 22 when I heard this at the beginning of Vicky Vale - Love Child:

It's a weird thing to start a song with. But I'm very familiar with this kind of sound. If you have a reel-to-reel tape player, you'll know that this is what you hear when you rewind a tape and leave the Repro button on.

I knew if slowed down to just the right amount, you would be able to hear what was on the tape (though not clearly, there is a lot of high frequency loss when you attempt to slow down something that was recorded at a fast speed).

So I reversed the sample, and slowed it down until I heard something that sounded like a slow bass guitar and (tonewheel organ/monophonic synth?) melody. Keep in mind that I don't have any sophisticated software that stabilises playback speed, so the speed fluctuates throughout the sample:

So this is what I think I heard.....

0:00 - 1:15: Drums with some bass guitar, ends with a cymbal?
1:28 - 1:57: Short burst of drums and a male voice, then mains hum (prob. from a guitar amp)
1:58 - 4:23: Instrumental rock music!!
4:23 to end: Faint male voice singing & instruments, maybe an organ? Makes me wonder if this could be a multitrack tape and what we're hearing is track "bleeding", when a channel on a multitrack tape is picked up on another channel.

Maybe this is a jam session from one of Sinclaire's old tapes , that would be awesome.

Has anybody here discovered an easter egg or come across just a general oddity in a eurobeat track?

It's hidden pretty well. You'll recognize it, but only if you're a big 80s fan.

Mika La Do - Walky Talky Doki Doki(HRG Attack)(Super Duper Vol. 6)
The synth riff is the synth riff from Harold Faltemyer's big hit "Axel F."

I generally love HRG attack because they always sneak in all those double meaning sex references

That's a very recurring thing in eurobeat.
I'm not sure if that's because producers have been around for 15~20 years and have passed through many music phases now and then - carrying that inside their own music, of course.

Anyway I always find myself amazed when I realize such things, I go and make some research and end up meeting new (or not so much hahaha) and interesting stuff.

Mr. Know It All by Atrium (Maharaja Night Hi-NRG Revolution Vol.12) samples vocal lines from "Mr. Knowitall" by Primus. :3

How about Keven Johnson - Got To Be Your Lover(delta)

The part where he starts to sing "i Should be so.." and then says "sorry sorry".

That was an actual error he did with vocals, by confusing abit with Kylie Minogue's song "I Should Be So Lucky" They thought it sounded pretty cool at the studio and decided to keep that little error in the song.

That's one of my favs!!!

Laurie - Hey Guy's synth hook is Barthezz - On The Move and Maximum Power - Crazy Night In Tokyo used the same drum hit from Mark Foster - Like A Fire.

I love it when they find a way to incorporate vocal outtakes into the track. There's another song that does this (during the intro though) but I forgot the name of it.

This may have been addressed before, but RCS - Hot Fire (SEB 24) sounds like a more interesting remake of Patrick Hoolley - Catching Your time (SEB 10). A lot of the percussion sequences are the same (linn conga sequence, claps, hihats etc). It's as if Dave Rodgers used the same multitrack and just recorded over the old instruments.

Oh yeah Roby Arduini reused his production of Mc Ya - U + Ur Hand (Eurotrance Mix) for SAIFAM and reworked it into Cherryl - Yes I Will for Delta

Speaking of Cherry's "Yes I Will"... The Hi-NRG remix, not only incorporates The classic "You Spin Me Round(Like A Record) melody, but is also inspired by the Italo classic from Shy Rose - "I Cry For You". Without any doubt, I always prefered the Hi-NRG remix of "Yes I Will". One of my top 5 DELTA songs of ALL TIME

Thinking of Doctor Love 2009 perhaps? The way he giggles after "DOCTOR DOCTOR LOOOVVEE" certainly sounds like an outtake

Boys (Summertime Love) by Sabrina shares the same synth riff as Just a Game by Vanessa. I have a strong suspicion that the male rapper is the same as well
