Trance

Post by Crockett » 24 Apr 2018, 18:56

Trance is probably the most sophisticated sort of electronic music. Classic Trance has many features, it's sublime, thrilling, euphoric, uplifting, upbeat, mesmerizing, full of energy and melodic of course. It's all about building-up the atmosphere and tension through long transforming, progressive melody lines and synths. The essence is emotional roller coaster from the breakdown until the climax. This all causes extreme emotions and that's why Trance is considered a classy genre globally, at least among mature and experienced listeners.

I like trance a lot, but I'm more a fan of the hands-up kind of style. Think Cascada. That doesn't mean some good Gouryella every now and then isn't welcome. :D

This is one of my favorites (:

Oh then you should come to the easterrave at Oberhausen, Germany.
It's annually always at the easter sunday and they always have a good lineup.

I was there 2015 and 2017 and especially last year the lineup was crazy.
Special D., Master Blaster, ItaloBrothers, aquagen, 89ers, pulsedriver, Empyre One, Basslovers United, Sunset Project and many more.

The atmosphere is crazy and you will almost only hear Hands Up on the dance area.

Oooh, interesting! Especially since I live under an hour drive from Oberhausen! Thanks for the heads-up, even though I will probably forget it for next year ehehe.

What is "Real Trance" in your opinion?

From what I hear there are still plenty of producers out ranging from Hard, Uplifting, Progressive, Full On, all to Vocal Trance.
Generally the trend went more towards EDM / Big Room music and they call it Trance which is just flat out wrong.

But to say that it is gone is just wrong too because it is still there as it was years before, just not that prominent anymore because many new genres have emerged and the audience has strayed towards them - that's something unavoidable, it had to happen eventually.

Same goes for Hands Up, the listener count for radio stations like technobase.fm has dropped dramatically (to 1/10 in around ~8 years) and probably won't rise anymore. I stopped listening to Hands Up four years ago since my playlist didn't expand any further because I went through the years and mostly stuck with the old stuff except some new stuff which rarely added some new songs.

Thankfully this is not the case for me with EB and HT (we still have Independent/Doujin Euro and Techno if Avex fails us)

To the events:
I can only advise people to buy tickets for easterrave, the atmosphere is just breathtaking when the crowd goes wild.
It may not be a huge stage on the dance floor (the biggest there) but it is crushing nonetheless.
Always a nice treat to hear good Hands Up tunes once a year for me again.

The line up will be posted artist by artist starting Q4 2018. (Should start anytime soon!)
I will try my best to free up some time to make it there!

Good question! I think this is the radio edit of that song .. there might be an extended Y&Co. only plays at shows tho :o

Here's another song feat. Max Collins from Eve 6 with trance elements I really like!٩(◕‿◕)۶ ~ ♪

You're right because it's actually Hands Up (imo) just without vocals. BPM is 145 which would fit right in there (140~145 sometimes even 150) since both genres can sometimes blend seemlessly into each other.
Why does it matter where it was produced though? Does it make it less good by being produced on the other side of the world?

You want some good trance? Here's some Hard Trance (made in Japan) remixed in Germany. One of my favorites:

It's that way with every genre: It's not "real" ________ anymore.

There isn't any genre today that sounds exactly like it's 90s predecessor. I think everyone has certain "eras" of a particular genre they hold high above all other years, and will argue up and down that what's new isn't "like it use to be!"
