Super Eurobeat Vol. 249

Post by KiraTM » 07 Jun 2018, 19:16

Seems like there's no thread for this album yet.

Release Date: June 20, 2018
2x 30 Songs

Well, originally I wanted to ask something. I usually import my SEBs through Amazon JP since avex banned some albums from export. Amazon can't ship this album to me when I try to order it. I also want to avoid a forwarding service.
Does anyone know a marketplace that ships this album to Germany/EU?

You could try to find a copy through ebay since there are some SEB copies aswell (I don't know about 249 though).
Well just look for it you might find a copy soon?

I'm pretty sure you will find it there since 247 and 248 are both listed.

I don’t buy these albums, but I do want to say both discs have excellent selections of modern eurobeat. It’s great to see people haven’t totally forgotten about “Pararappa Dance”, “Let’s Go Wild!”, “With Your Photograph”, “Balalaika Vodka Rock’ N Roll”, “Crazy for Love”, and many others. Honestly, I’m not sure if there’s a single track I really disagree with on the whole compilation, aside maybe from Norma (sorry).

Norma consistently has limp, nasal, off-tune vocals. Time and time again, they kill all of the aishu tracks she performs that should have been handed to somebody with more control over her voice. Even before it was revealed Norma Sheffield wasn't actually Francesca Contini, I was simply never a fan of her.

Granted, there are a number of songs in her catalogue that are adequate at best, but the only two songs of hers that I genuinely really like are "Maybe Tonite" and "Your Body Call". She sounds less asleep and more in the moment in those tracks, with the former being a mainstream but solidly crafted tune and the latter being an immaculately produced uptempo dance number that cleverly employs Chiara De Pieri's subdued vocals to be quietly seductive, unlike the unsuccessfully attempts at sweetness on her usual faire.

Avex hates you and me and everybody else who doesn't live in Japan. They don't want eurobeat to be a widespread, digitally accessible genre for anybody who lives anywhere. No, listening to this music made in Italy is a special privilege for the Japanese and the Japanese only. Everywhere I look, the Japan-only label follows this genre and basically tries to guilt me for loving the music as an American. I don't listen to eurobeat because I'm an obsessive Japanophile who's fluent in Japanese and visits the country constantly, I appreciate it simply for what the music has to offer on its own – lively synthesizers, propulsive melodies, and a huge sense of fun. Eurobeat offers something special to me as a music fanatic that other genres cannot match. Sorry that I don't have a Japanese credit card.

Truth be told, I was upset and disappointed when I read about SEB "continuing in some form" because that basically just means Avex gets to withhold the genre from any adventurous music consummate just so they can pander to their ever-shrinking para-para fanbase in Tokyo. I was originally going to keep my mouth mostly shut and try to be optimistic because they're bringing back the old director, but based on what we're seeing here, I'm assuming things aren't going to get any better.

I have absolutely no interest in supporting Avex compilations unless they step up to advance the genre. My longtime friend the_ditz lost interest in new eurobeat along with me a few years ago precisely because of how behind the times and idiotic Avex has constantly been for the past several years, allowing eurobeat to go absolutely nowhere. In 2018, niche genres like eurobeat have extremely little use for compilations promoted by huge corporations like Avex when their communities are naturally intertwined and far more expedient in spreading their music. Super Eurobeat and any spin-off is an outdated platform for promoting the music, especially when Avex has to make it such a goddamn nightmare to own a single installment or even just your favourite few tracks.

At least I have the Eurobeat Kudos series to keep me satisfied.

Hmmm, now it's getting ever so difficult to get the last remaining albums whatnot with Amazon playing hard to get with the albums. Recommendations on where to get the last two now that neither Cdjapan and Amazon aren't an option?

SEB's official website say HMV for international shipping but it's only EMS (2,200 JPY for SEB249). This is funny because they proposed CDJapan before...

They’re obviously confusing it with “CooloveR”, another Linda Ongarelli song that opened an SEB album with an installment number ending in 2.

I was astonished and also a little bit scared that you read my mind. Yes, that is how I made that mistake. I loved the both songs back then.
