Alright, finally back on topic with my review of SEB 174.

----------------Super Eurobeat 174 Review----------------

Track 01
Make Up Your Mind
Dave Rodgers

Nice, a remake of an already good Wain L song.
Why, is everyone hating on it?
Is it because the majority of the forum users prefer Female singers?
I think whoever hates this song for the sole reason that it's not Wain L singing should pretend they never heard the original song and then give this a listen. For a Dave Rodgers song, on its own it stands up pretty damn well. I dont mind his voice, and yeah I guess it's a bit warbly, but it doesnt detract it from being a good song.
The updated synths and background effects truly makes this a good opener. But maybe a different singer with a bit of uniqueness and variety in their voice would've made this song better. Not Dave's best, but still good

Score: 8/10

Track 02
Day After Day
Annalise

Yeah! Another Annalise song...
So, let's bring back Annerley and play it safe by sticking to the same routine formula present in all her recent songs? Meh.
She really needs to spice things up and bring something new to the table, or she'll fall under the radar...
Not too bad, nothing new and typical. Nice synths that sound pleasant to the ear, but no lasting value for me, unfortunately.

Score: 6.5/10

Track 03
Love Me In The Heat of The Night
Time Force

Interesting and Unique intro. Fire, Desire, Power. All in one sentence. Yup, it's a typical Eurobeat song. Which isn't a bad thing, because it isnt a typical Time song. We see some more than average energy in the label, and they do it really well in this song. Too bad Mark Gillan can't produce a song like this under that Alias.
Powerful Chorus, good melody and i'll actually listen to it more than once.
Good for you Time, after two really good songs on 173 (remake of Doctor Doctor and Speed Man) I wasnt expecting another song i'd like in a while.

Score: 7.5/10

Track 04
Shadow In Your Smile
Ciao Ciao

OH. MY. GOD.
HI-NRG can actually produce a song that's comprehendable and stable all the way through! Props to you guys! Finally, judgement day has come and they've made a song I actually like and will listen to continously.
I love the vocalist, and she NEEDS to sing more Hi-NRG songs from now on, because her voice isnt annoying.
Good melody, except for the random high notes from time to time, which annoy me for some reason. Other than that, above average.

Score: 7.5/10

Track 05
Black Jack
Mega NRG Man

Yay! Tomas Martin is back once again and with style! They leave him alone for a while, get me worried that we wont see him again, then In the Sunrise comes out and Blows Me Away. Black Jack is just on par with the previous Mega NRG Man song. I love the intro, incredible synth and melody and I just melt at the C Melo. It goes by so fast and feels short, even for a 4:05 minute song. Wierd. The lyrics are bland, but I still love his new style. I want another Express Love, though.

Score 9/10

Track 06
Take Me To Heaven
Kelly T.

WOW. This song blew me away the first time I heard it. Kelly T. has such a cute and beautiful voice, my heart melts everytime I hear it. Another female singer on the small list of ones I like is checked off. The melody goes perfectly with this type of song and the chorus is wonderful. Couldve used a more powerful bridge but thats just a really minor complaint.
The definite gem of this album.

Score: 9.5/10

Track 07
Into The Groove
Phil & Linda

Hmm, what's this Deja-vu i'm feeling here? Oh right, this is pretty much Only For Love Only For You, which was a good song. I agree with Bore though, the vocals are really wierd at times and I cant stand Linda's voice. At times it seems like they're singing while sky-diving or something..
Another disco-type song which is pretty rare, so I give thanks for the much-needed variety. Good beat too.

Score: 7/10

Track 08
Sweet Sixteen Girl
Candy Taylor

Time for Delta, and oh look, its Clara. Energy, a good song, not much I can say. Pretty typical fare here, but forgettable in my opinion.

Score: 7/10

Track 09
Viva La Noche
Christine feat. Elvis El Latino

Amazing song here. SCP once again delivers an extraordinary product. I just want to dance and dance the night away while listening to this song. The vocals sound clear and fresh, and Elvis' spanish rapping is so awesome! I absolutely adore the melody, and I hope this duo delivers more in the future. This song is just perfect in almost every way.
Ole! Ole! Ole!... Viva La Noche!

Score: 10/10

Track 10
Please Forgive Me
Cherry

Ugh. Why am I getting some sort of Helena vibe when I listen to this song? Some of the sounds are awkward, especially right before the chorus (the best part) where she says "I Say.." That part sounds really wierd. The useless and annoying sound that appears throughout the song really turns me off. A good song, but suffers due to annoying sounds and some wierd vocalwork.

Score: 4.5/10

Track 11
Caterpillar Man
Jungle Bill

CATERPILLA! CATERPILLA! CATER-WTF?? What's a caterpillar man supposed to be? Wait, it's Hi-NRG, it's not supposed to make sense.
Chorus and Intro are the only good parts of this song, random notes and sounds put me off. However, the melody is at least somewhat constant all the way through and the vocals dont make my ears bleed as much, but still, lyrics and choatic arrangement of the song dont make it special or good in any way. Not too bad, just nothing really worth listening to.

Score:
5/10

Track 12
You And Me Forever
Kasanova

Good piano intro. I can see Elton John playing, and the singer half-naked on the piano singing for him. Funny image, but back on track. For a song it's ok, good vocals, and melody, but just too typical and doesnt really have any lasting value.

Score: 5.5/10

Track 13
Generation of Love
Paul Harris

Another Paul Harris song again? A third time in a row? The level just went from down, to up, to down again. Mira La Luna was awesome, but this one just sounds too typical after the previous one. Delta really needs to get some new vocalists, nothing wrong with these though, just more variety please...
An overall average song, but average just doesnt cut it these days.

Score: 7/10

Track 14
Today
Digital Planet

Another Digital Planet song, you all know what to expect. The song doesnt stray far from the previous formula, and it's just typical DP. Need I say more?

Score: 7/10

Track 15
Melodies of Love 2007
Helena

I have mixed feelings about this song. The vocals arent too bad, and the melody is lovely... But why choose to remake this song? The intro's awkward.. Sounds like her voice being played backwards...
Not the best remake, and a wierd choice.
Enough, Helena...

Score: 5.5/10

Track 16
Rockin' Hardcore
Fastway

This song is just what the title says. Rockin' Hardcore delivers on all fronts, and anyone who likes Eurobeat or Fastway will be pleased. Fast/aggressive and sounds good to the ear. SCP once again delivers.

Score: 9/10

Track 17
Give Me A Sign
Nuage

Nuage is back to her old-self! A definite and warm welcome. Her voice is soothing, and the song just makes you feel good inside. Oh i'll gladly give you a sign Denise... :P

Score: 8.5/10

Track 18
Into the Daylight
Powerful T.

Finally, we're at the end of another SEB album and Powerful T. ends it with a pretty average bang. At times it sounds like a Digital Planet song, but faster. Powerful voice and melody. Another good song.

Score: 7.5/10

After the 3 previous SEB's and the great start, the level is toned down mostly due to just way too many average songs that dont stand out amidst a few Gems. Second disc is pretty good bang for your buck if you're a true SEB fan. So give it a buy if you're up for it.

Average Score: 7.5

Best 3:
Viva La Noche - Christine feat. Elvis El Latino
Take Me To Heaven - Kelly T.
Black Jack - Mega NRG Man

Worst 3:
Caterpillar Man - Jungle Bill
Melodies of Love 2007 - Helena
Please Forgive Me - Cherry

Honorable Mention:
Rockin' Hardcore - Fastway

She sang Over the Rainbow/Black Eva, Get a Boom/Martina Dry and I'm Your Barracuda/Mika La-Do so...I think it's safe to bet it's not her last song.

The Nuage song keeps growing on me more and more, starting to think it might be one of the best ones on the album definitely.

Not at all, I like that song a lot! The first hit of the album.

Or maybe it's because, god forbid, some people just don't like his voice, or maybe they just don't like this cover of the song and prefer the original like people often do with the countless 200x remakes out there.

I don't like it because he covered a song that 1. Does not fit his voice at all (also see Not Gonna Get Us) ...and 2. That I believe no other Eurobeat artist would beable to pull this song off as well as the original artist. It would be like Lolita singing Niko's Night Of Fire, Matt Land singing Stephy Martini's Emotions... IT JUST DOESN'T MAKE SENSE TO ME. :P

Now I'm going to stand here and wait for the "Why do you like Domino????" questions to head my way, even though she has nothing to do with anything at this time. hahahaha Those questions always seem to arise whenever I argue against a song people like. *shrugs*

Really? Well, thats mostly due to the fact that before now the most i've listened to a Hi-NRG song was once. So I guess I didnt recognize the voice, but now after I re-listened to Get a Boom I cant believe I missed that.. >_<. Her voice shines the most through this song, IMHO. Thanks for letting me know though.

Oh I definitely agree. I played it on repeat for almost an hour today. :)
I think I should've gave it a 9, but theres better Nuage songs out there anyways.

I guess, I just REALLY like the updated synths and sounds in this version, so it covers up his voice, even though i'm one of the few that dont mind it. (Not Gonna Get Us, the original wasnt even Eurobeat and and shouldnt even exist..)

Also, of course no one can duplicate this song as well, just because a voice isnt a very easy thing to duplicate. I wonder why they didnt just use the old Wain L voice? Maybe theres something deeper involved.

Last thing, Domino's great, no need to question your biased fandom.

(Oh, and watch out for the next-generation of SEB, I heard it's all Dave Rodgers remixes, all the time. Lolita? Nuage? I Wanna Be Fat, Plastic Girl? Dave Rodgers is singing those.)
^That would be hell, wouldnt it?

Haha, it just seems whenever I post on these forums about something I dislike... it could be anything these days - "I really didn't like the weather today, it was too cold outside..." someone will quote me and say something like "WELL THEN WHY DO YOU LIEK DOMINOS MUSICS SO MUCHS!!11oneoneeleven" XDDD

What I don't know is why people expect Hi-nrg attack's works to make sense. Sure there are songs that have comprehendable concepts like Shadow in your smile but seriously if you check out their website...the point of their songs is to be nonsensical but festive at the same time. I personally like Caterpiller Man

I dont expect them to make sense, I just dislike them for not making any sense at all, and nothings going to change my opinion I guess. I do appreciate them for providing more variety and trying to expand the market with their uniqueness (Uniqueness, Indeed).

I personally DO expect them to make sense. The team behind the music have done great in the past, but personally I don't call this music anymore... Freaked out synths, nonsense lyrics, ulta high BPM...

I need a SONG

Nothing wrong with ultra high BPM, the yawn-worthy slow ones are worse~

That's your opinion and I have mine :!:

I look back on the late 80s and early 90s with much pleasure, when average BPM was 130.

I am willing to donate $25 to the cause of making this song a reality.
