Bonkers wrote:I disagree...pre-2000 SEBs have horrible mastering in regards to new volumes. Like, on SEB 72, "Love in New York City" is so low in volume. When I buy Happy Hardcore CDs from the UK, all the tracks sound the same volume, and the mastering is crisp!

Most new SEBs have decent mastering, I just wish the tracks themselves were produced at a louder volume.
WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT

Louder volume = large compression.
Larger compression = quality decrease.
Larger compression = less dynamic range
Less dynamic range = percussion become background noise
Les dynamic compression = everything sounds as loud as the other thing in the song. (=bad)

Please see this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Gmex_4hreQ

SEB had SHIT mastering since SEB 40's.

Only now after I returned back from Japan I got around to listening to 236 and I am rather surprised about the quality of the album all in all. Way better than the other releases during the 230s definitely.

Awesome:
Hotblade - Games We Play
Franz Tornado And The Cow Girls - Dr. Wesson And Mr. Smith
Kaory - Fly With Me Tonight
Vicky Vale - Bang Bang Love
Manuel - My Lollipop Girl
Irene - Crazy All Night

Good:
Speedmaster Feat. Angelica - Heartbeat Song
Cherry - My Last Breath Of Love
David Dima - Bring Me Into Your Life
Bon - Feel The Power Of Rock

Rest are sorta meh for my liking, but all in all this is still a really good chunk of great m00sic. Totally in love with My Lollipop Girl in particular.

Dr. Wesson And Mr. Smith is a stroke of genius. Seriously.

My turn for a review, overall, 236 isn't a groundbreaking album by any means and the fact that 237 is a while away doesn't help things either. With the exception of a few songs, the rest of the album is already beginning to wear out pretty quickly for me.

1. Games We Play / Hotblade
This song pretty much gave me what I expect out of a Hotblade track or heck, any other SCP male sung tracks for that matter : Energetic, powerful, catchy and not a single dime more or less. Overall, it's not the new "Disconnected" and there are better tracks on this album I could be listening to, but it's a good song anyways.
Grade : 3.5/5

2. Heartbeat Song / Speedmaster Feat Angelica
Kelly Clarkson cover by the weakest label on SEB so far? I pass.
Grade : 1.5/5

3. Dr. Wesson And Mr. Smith / Franz Tornado And The Cow Girls
I am probably one of the few people who won't jump on the bandwagon of people who declare it to be "Best song the year" or anything like that. I have pretty much said in previous reviews that the new Hi-NRG never fails to keep on experimenting and giving us all kinds of surprises and I respect them for that. The wild wild west theme of the track and the banjo riff were very refreshing to hear since we rarely get to hear that in SEB since well ... ever? Aside from that, I don't find this song particularly catchy or anything, but it was at least something really new to hear and just for that, this song is good in it's own right.
Grade : 2.5/5

4. My Last Breath Of Love / Cherry
For me personally, some of Clara's best works are the more emotional ones that have a aishuu theme around them such as "Lonely Night", "Anyway Anymore", "Scandal" and the more recent "Unforgettable". This song goes right up there with them as one of the best tracks she has done so far, and considering how SEB is nowadays, that is actually really hard to say. It has a great build up at the start, the melody is shows real effort being put in despite being aishu, it is very well sung by Clara who totally slays this track, and the synth placement and usage were genius - My favourite part being after the chorus, the song actually goes into a short melodic "interlude" build up before going back to the riff again, it's short but it is absolutely incredible and a real joy to hear. The point is, a good aishuu eurobeat is very hard to pull off and there's not many of them that I could say I like to hear but THIS, THIS is the real deal. Easily the top track on this album. All I can say is, Clara and Delta sure knows their aishuu!
Grade : 5/5

5. Fly With Me Tonight / Kaory
So after her explosive 6:24 run time debut track on 233, we return to a slightly more predictable GGM production. To me personally, I liked how "bursty" her debut track on 233 was and it had many interesting elements that sets it apart from a typical GGM production and it was outright powerful both in melody and vocals, so right away, this naturally won't hold a candle to her debut track in my books. The "Kaioh" style of production is very distinct in this song, and as I've said before, young Dave is almost as talented as his father when it comes to producing tracks. The best part of this track is the opening and I am still very impressed by Kaory's Irene-like vocals (Seriously, is she really just Ongarelli or a different singer altogether?) and I think that's all I can say about this track, not the new "Run To Me" but it's a decent GGM track at least.
Grade : 3.5/5

6. Bring Me Into Your Life / David Dima
Placing a guitar solo near the end of the song was weird, I could hear the entire song using another riff at the end of the song before it ends to achieve maximum perfection rather than just ending sort of abruptly with the chorus (I know it's possible for this to be done with a software but I am not well versed in this department, if anyone has any ideas let me know). Other than that, Dimaishu! Very moving and engaging. Feel free to get all emotional listening to this. "Let me remember who you are-eeeeeeee!".
Grade : 4.5/5

7. 1 Piece Of The Action / Latina
I wanted to like this song actually, it sounds like it had potential, but honestly all I hear in this track up till now is noise/mess, noise/mess and more noise/mess. Latina is a decent vocalist (She sounds sexy), but I have no idea what she is singing about to be honest, probably because the background melody is so in your face. The melody itself sounds like random mishmash to me and is just a hairbreadth short of being incredibly grating. I have a lot of trouble processing this song in my head because it's just so ... random sounding. It's not a god awful song for sure, but no, I pass on this one.
Grade : 2/5

8. Here Comes The Sun / Patty K
Summery Dima female eurobeat. Not particularly engaging but has a decent vocalist at least. Overall, not really my cup of tea but if you need a mood lifter, maybe this song will give you what you need.
Grade : 2/5

9. Dancing Lover / Futura
I like this song but it's honestly not VERY catchy save for maybe having a strong chorus. I don't think it lives up to the level of "Seven Night" and the crazy good "Guardian Angels" but for better or for worse, at least Malferrari isn't pitched to hell in this track, which is something some people can definitely appreciate better. Overall, not song of the year material but good enough in my books.
Grade : 3.75/5

10. Tell Me / Dave Rodgers
First of all, this track is certainly not what I expected from my favourite male vocalist after more than a year's wait to hear another song. I won't deny it, I was expecting something more like "1 Fire" and was mildly disappointed when I heard that this new Dave song is more on the midtempo summer eurobeat side than his usual aggressive and serious materials. What do I think of this song then? Honestly, I have a hard time getting into it. I don't find this song particularly catchy or engaging in any ways, it's just sort of ... uhm, okay-ish. The opening was great as usual for a Sun Fire track, but it severely lacks the punch of his other works, and you'd at least expect a good chorus to go with it but no, the chorus is nowhere near the pure genius of a song like "The House Of Fire" ("Welcome to the house of fireeee, Let Me Go, Let Me Go, I just wanna let it go!" still one of the best eurobeat chorus ever) for example. Overall, like the previous Futura track, it's not an awful song but there are just much better songs from them I could be listening to so I really don't see myself coming back to this song too often, if at all after this review. If anything, it's been quite a while since we heard a guitar heavy NRG track from the label isn't it ("New Race Game" doesn't count)? Isn't it time to bring that style back again? Interestingly, Pasquini himself didn't like this track as well, and I'm inclined to agree with him on that.
Grade : 2.5/5

11. Hot Bikini / Lady Energy
There's a universal theme to this album and it's that any of the songs featured here has a better one sung by the same vocalist just recently. "Hot Bikini" is not the new "Girl In The Night" or "Little Girls Cannot Be Wrong" for sure, it just does not have the same level of "finesse". It has an interesting sounding riff, and really, that's about it. I can't say more about this track than : it's decent at best.
Grade : 3/5

12. Bang Bang Love / Vicky Vale
Is this a new song or one that is pulled from the old pile? Either ways, the song is average at best but it also has the added unfortunate fate of being on the same album and getting totally overshadowed by the far, far, FAR superior Cherry track so I'll end this review with : Tough luck, Vicky Vale.
Grade : 2.5/5

13. My Lollipop Girl / Manuel
The album so far hasn't been very impressive, so I was hoping for Manuel to save it with his trademark over the top songs and he sort of does, thankfully. The melody is what you'd expect from a Manuel track : Over the top, unrestrained and powerful. The chorus has a kind of "adorable-ness" to it which is awesome. The instrumental parts are excellent, and Manuel never fails to impress with his operatic vocal presentations. Again, there are many better Manuel tracks out there but at least this didn't disappoint, it's a great track all and all and I love it.
Grade : 4.5/5

14. Crazy All Night / Irene
It's crazy how an Irene song can become one of the highlight tracks for me on a whole SEB album considering how "predictable" SCP's songs are nowadays, but considering how the album is so far, I guess I'll take it. The riff is honestly nothing special, but the rest of the song is nothing short of feel good, and the chorus especially does a superb job at that. I love the lyrics - it technically made no sense but it's just oozing so much positivity it's hard not to prance around with it. Irene's vocal presentation are flawless as usual. Overall, not much I can say but, cool song.
Grade : 4.5/5

15. Feel The Power Of Rock / Bon
After almost 5 long years since his return, here comes a Bon track I can finally say I not just like, but LOVE. With this song, Sinclaire finally gave the Bon alias the track he deserves by dumping the REALLY annoying "quirky" tone that peppered every single track of his up till this which I don't really get why because most of his best songs in the past were serious, no bullshit stuff like for example "Toyboy" or "Spark In The Dark" in my opinion. THIS is what Bonini is meant to sing. Right from the get go, the opening with the guitar and robotic chorus already had me half sold as it was really good. The riff had me wonder if I was really listening to a Bon track for a while, but it was crazily engaging. The vocal melodies were well thought out, the chorus is fantastic and the instrumentals were excellent and really does make one "feel the power of rock". Bon sounds amazing in this track, and I feel great being able to say that unlike all his other tracks previously. Overall, it's almost as if all effort were put into making this track instead of the Latina track and for me, this is nothing but the true Bonini comeback track. It's 5 years late, but better late than never. This and the Cherry song are both superb tracks, and it's great to be able to end this album with a BANG.
Grade : 5/5

Top 3 :
Feel The Power Of Rock / Bon & My Last Breath Of Love / Cherry (Both ties)
Bring Me Into Your Life / David Dima

Bottom 3 :
Heartbeat Song / Speedmaster Feat Angelica
Here Comes The Sun / Patty K
1 Piece Of The Action / Latina

HM :
Crazy All Night / Irene
You and me like a fire tonight
Me and you 2 guardian angels
Now I feel your touch into my heart
A ray of sun~

- Guardian Angels / Oceania

I liked everything about that song :)
The aishu ones were pretty good. I didn't mind Cherry's at first but after a while, I ended up liking it as well.

I got my copy yesterday and listened to 236 several times.
I don't understand the hype 236 gets. Most songs are pretty weak or not special. However, there are some really good songs on it but in general, it was not worth the waiting.

And 226 was a good SEB, I think.

Sorry for double-posting, here's my review. :)

Review Time again! Well, I wanted to review the 235 transitions last time but it became a stupid idea... However, I'm gonna write real review today. I had very low expectations for 236 since 2015's Eurobeat for me was a big miss in general.

01 Games We Play / Hotblade - 5/10
Let's start with – surprise – Hotblade. Was there one SEB with Hotblade featured on it where the song wasn't put as first track? I don't know... Hotblade usually has a kicking sound which stays in head often. But Games We Play isn't one of those candidates for me. It feels like there's nothing special in this song. The felt infinite repeatation of „Games We Play“ quickly started to annoy me but to be honest, it's a solid Eurobeat song. At least, it's not the worst song to come.

02 Heartbeat Song / Speedmaster feat. Angelica - no rating
Image
Even though I actually like this remix, it is out of the place! Non-Eurobeat shouldn't get on SEB!

03 Dr. Wesson & Mr. Smith / Franz Tornado & The Cow Girls – 9/10
Franz Tornado often is someone whose songs become earworms! This time again. I love the mix of Banjo and Eurobeat. It fits well together here. I have no other words for this song than „I love it.“ This gives hope for the rest of the SEB... If I wouldn't have listened to the rest, I'd really think the SEB would become a good one.

04 My Last Breath Of Love / Cherry – 3/10
Wow, a song which is that long isn't common nowadays (or never was that common). This would be a big plus if the wouldn't be that boring. I don't know, I kinda feel like falling asleep when listening this song.

05 Fly With My Tonight / Kaory – 9/10
GGM used to be the weakest label for me. Leo River, Kaioh, all those artists never produced music I like. Besides Manuel – who didn't have really, really good songs in the past – the label was just SCP's little sister for me. But with Kaory, a talented singer joined. The music is different than other GGM creations and is refreshing. I hope we'll see more by Kaory in the future.

06 Bring Me Into Your Life / David „Demo“ Dima – 4/10
Aaaaand my mood goes down again. David, whatever happened to you, it wasn't good for happy Eurobeat. You used to create fun and amazing songs. Aggressive ones, special ones. And nowadays, you put out one sad song after the other. #hugdima

07 1 Piece Of Action / Latina 5/10
It's Sinclaire time! At first, this song was stunning. It had the classical SS vibes but the more I heard it the more it annoyed me. The melody is confusing and tries everything to not stay in my head. But I still kind of like it. I just can't describe how I feel about this song.

08 Here Comes The Sun / Patty K. – 10/10
What the hell is going on at Dima Music? While the male vocalists are depressive, the female ones are having fun like it's the last day of summer. The song already got me with the first „STAAAY! HERE COMES THE SUN!“ And it doesn't get worse. The song kind of screams to me: „Play me!“ That's what Dima should sound like. Happy music, fast singing and in general, a positive-vibe-giving melody. This is the best song on this SEB!

09 Dancing Lover / Futura – 1/10
Futura is my instant nope. Is it possible to sound more boring than her? Maybe. Except „Super Eurobeat“ which was sung by her and Dave, she didn't make one song I liked.

10 Tell Me / Dave Rodgers – 4,5/10
This song sounds like another one Dave produced in the past but I can't recall which one. It's the intro with its „Look around“ which sounds familar. Anyway, the whole intro sounds nice and promises a good song until Dave begins to sing. Right after that, it sounds pretty generic and ABC-like, not like Sun Fire. That's nothing bad at first, but it sounds like the era when I didn't like ABC songs. However, I must admit, as pure Instrumental I'd like the song really much.

11 Hot Bikini / Lady Energy – 9/10
Ah, November. Cold, rainy weather, freaking wind and more shit. These are the days when I like to go swimming in my hot bikini. I bet this song was produced many months earlier and avex though, late autumn is the best releasing time. Okay, it's about 20°C here which are temperatures for early to mid-September, so it's kinda fitting. I now talked a lot about the weather and not the song. The song is great. Sounded weird at first but became better the more I listened to it. Now it's one of my favorites. I love the „beach-y intro“. It reminds me of my favorite season.

12 Bang Bang Love / Vicky Vale – 8/10
Vicky Vale is absolutely not one of my favorite artists. Her songs are not impressing and I often skip them. But when the possibly likable songs are only a few, I have no other choice. Just kidding, this song sounds more like a Leslie Parrish one but in a really good way. It's catchy as hell and it gets better each time it plays. There's just a special sound missing which is often used in Parrish songs.

13 My Lollipop Girl / Manuel – 5/10
It's better than „Do You Wanna Be My Geisha?“ but still not my cup of tea. Except the chorus it doesn't sound that good to me...

14 Crazy All Night / Irene – 4/10
This track sounded good at first but became more and more annoying for me. It's mostly the „Crazy! All night!“ which bothers me... This is probably the weakest song by Irene by now.

15 Feel The Power Of Rock / Bon – 7/10
We reached the final destination of this bad SEB. Bon was an instant guarantee for a great song. From 2013 to 2014. This year's SS songs couldn't reach the standards set by themselves. At least, it's not the worst on this SEB or one of the bad songs in general. It's above average for me. Not lovable-good, not bad.

Yeah, that's it. This is the worst SEB since 222 for me. Even though there were a few good songs, the album is dominated by below-5-points-songs. I mean, it's nothing special to only have a few great songs, but then, the rest is at least average with one or two songs being very bad.
I waited for this SEB way longer than I used to wait. I got hyped by the forum members. But in the end, 234 was the only good extended album this year. If I count it too, 234 and 235 together were the best SEBs this year.
I'm sad that the Eurobeat year 2015 had to end with such an album. Now I really are afraid of having a crappy tracklist on Best of 2015. There are not even 25 songs this year I'd like that much.
