Re: trance songs

I thought the drum sounds were OK, perhaps need to add some more compression. In terms of arrangement/programming, adding more parts, I think the key is to add additional parts but then selectively delete notes, and also add/drop out parts at key points. Many tracks have additional drum parts that are way back in the mix but really add to the arrangement.

Other sounds aren't quite "General MIDI" but are a bit weak! Just for reference (maybe Dave knows this already) AFAIK the benchmark trance lead sounds came off the JP-8000 ("SuperSaw") and Access Virus. (One way to create a good sound is find out where it's from, and get a clip of that sound on its own, try to match it (or gain familiarity with it), or get samples, etc. Or maybe get the "real" gear.) Anyway, you should be able to Google for info on trance sounds, lots of people created "SuperSaw" type lead sounds in reFX Vanguard and so on.

Maria & Mikaeru - Let the Music

Posted the piano demo a while ago, I think. Here's (hopefully) the finished version. My vocals aren't *great*, but passable. Enjoy.

Well... Over a week later...

Here's something new. Kinda.

Maria - "Why Don't You Cry"

Maria's debut solo. Tried something new with it, not sure if anyone will pick it out. Hope at least *someone* likes it.

Why did you say you loved me, baby
Why did you say you cared for me
I know the truth, and my heart is aching
Aching just for me

So, you want me in your life now
No, I don't want to hear it
So, it was just the one time
Now it's time to go

Why don't you cry for me tonight
Why don't you cry with your other lover
Why don't you cry for me tonight
Why don't you cry, baby
Why don't you cry for me tonight
Why don't you cry in another cover
Why don't you cry for me tonight
Why don't you cry for me

Why did you think I would not find out
Why did you think I would not see
I know it hurts, and your heart is aching
Aching just for me

I think I heard this one before.
the piano and the bright note of the song reminds me of Di Marcantonio's
brisk sound.

She has a sweet voice. Say hello to her for me. :P

Yeah, I posted it a few weeks ago, but just the demo version. And I'll be sure to pass on the message. :P

No freaking clue. I mean, I'd *like* to get some sort of deal as a writer, and just learn from there, but realistically that ain't happening anytime soon.

I'd *like* to do an indie cd, but I'm not terribly confidant in my material, and, I mean, nothing against anyone at all, but I seriously doubt anyone would buy something from me. So it just seems like a lot of work and resources that would go into producing a product no one wants. So I'm just sitting here, keeping at it, for now...

It's cool doing this stuff has a hobby, so long as you enjoy it.

Reaching professional levels is a lot of work, though. You can do an entire undergraduate degrees in relevant subjects. (I'm not saying that's a necessity, but it just gives an idea of the amount of work and knowledge required.)

Getting the skills is a matter of learn, learn, learn, practice, practice, practice...

I should probably have said it's a matter of the right learning and practice, as well as aptitude.

Are you happy with your progress?

I suppose I'm fairly happy with my progess. I mean, what I do now is FAR beyond what I did even two years ago *shudders*, and pretty far beyond where I was a year ago. I mean, it just took one visit to SCP, really see how it's done, and even then I learned a lot of techniques and practices. And I take everything said here into consideration.

Yeah, I visited them a couple times last year. Was in Germany, so it wasn't too far. Wanted to go back this year, but couldn't afford it.
