I'm not sure if "gay" is an adequate term to describe Pete Burns:

Well, this type of music has been associated with gay culture for a long time. IIRC "Hi-NRG" in the US was also called "Boystown" music after the gay area in Chicago. But in any case, I'm not gay, but I'll listen to whatever music I like!

More like super transexual. He is concidered a Super Model in japan on some webpages. Ietherway I Love DOA music and Pete Burns vocals. One of my all-TIME favs "Heartbreaker" is very much the same beat and melody as "You Spin Me Round"
I think Nowadays Pete burns looks kinda scary, but back in the 80's with teased hair and Eye Patch, he kinda looked Macho-Gay now he looks like a woman and thier style of music is more along the lines of Transe/Techno, which we all know I dislike very much
There is a SAW song "Turn Around and Count To 10" which is very unlike typical DOA, but sounds very much like Italo. Compare to "I Wanna Love YOu" -Max Coveri on WEM records and hear the similiarities. :D

here is a link to the old Pete Burns just to defend him a bit. That new "Cher" look scares me a bit.

..and here is one where he looks more like a doable woman. ha Ha ! :D

Contemporary eurobeat is marketed towards heterosexual cartoonloving pre- and full- teenagers. Some labels like klone and saifam use male, athletic looking, models on some cd inserts to sell their more boring compilations. That seems to work well with underwear, so some labels marketing is going in the same direction.
And there are always medievally inquisition style tortured chicks on avex seb covers. It's like: yes, kids, it's so much fun to torture girls.
Oh,and by the way, there is a ticket to a club where u can find some...

Should all Eurobeat artist be gay? I don't agree, just look at Dave Rodgers who has a slight reputation of being a 'womaniser'... Go figure...

I myself listen to Eurobeat and Italo a lot. Some songs are really queer, but that doesn't really bother me. I almost never listen to lyrics, since there are often dispensable in Eurobeat and Italo...

BTW, the half-finals of the most gayest program has just ended: Eurovision half-finals... I watched it with my girlfriend and enjoyed it. :P

I hope that wasn't serious.

I seriously doubt Eurobeat, or any musical genre for that matter, is designed for a certain sexuality - and if we start discussing such, we're basically saying that you can box people in by looking at a few generic signs, and that stereotypes are a true image of reality ;)

Instead of saying Eurobeat is heterosexual or homosexual (or bi-sexual), I'll say this: Eurobeat is sexual!

That is, from my point of view, the real issue - that Eurobeat is sexy, it wants to provoke and be the "naughty" boy/girl, and in cases such as this, different sexualities are bound to surface, just like they do in real life. Opposed to other mainstream artists, Eurobeat artists have the guts to break away from the popular happy-go-lucky christian fantasy about being a couple (yada yada) and present a more realistic view of today's world as it is - and whether it be in the form of a womanizer or a drag queen, Eurobeat manages to give us almost every angle. Grats to Eurobeat!

I agree. I find the part before the intro of My Body Sweat/Vicky Vale to be very sexy, with Clara's "oooh"s

I assure u that if italian eurobeat was really marketed towards not teens, but gen-x-ers,then they'd put advertisement not in anime, but in
scotch,beer and peanuts most likely.
If they were after alternative lifestylers, then there 'd be miserable looking
gentlemen on SEB covers,as opposed to familiar overteased and water-tortured SEB ladies.

Hmm, so times have changed then. But I don't think most 80's Hi-NRG was actually aimed at gay markets, just had an association or was popular with them.

Yeah, SEB marketing is clearly not "gay". But SEB covers are usually just a good (or supposed to be good) looking model, where's the torture thing?

8) I definatly believe TIME is the most "SEXUAL" label ever. From the most sexy Male vocals
Nando Bonini
Gino Caria
Claudio Magnani
Simon Valeo
G. Corianni
Goirgio Gambogi ETC..

To some of the most SEXUIAL songs
Sex Heroes
Sexy Guy
Superlove Superaction
Burning Up
Hot Hot Lover
Sex Over The Phone

just to name a few, but it isn't only the song, but rather the way the vocalist sings it that makes it SEXUAL. I say this because those artists have sung on other labels, but not sounded as sexy as they did on TIME :D

I guess we can thank the gay community for its interst in the first (read) Disco/Italo/High Energy songs. Beleieve it or not that community made High Energy Mainstream, which made it TOP 10...and finally we got Super Eurobeat .
I believe Mauro Farina's Lillac persona kinda pays homage to that same gay Community. The same I feel for Jean Love. Very 80's Aerobics sounding songs. I guess it is marketable to appeal to all genres.

I sum it up like this
Coversleeves= appeal to Italo fans and Gay community
Euromach = appeals to Para Para Teanagers in Japan:
SEB= appeals to give Eurobeat a more "TUFFER" image. and of course to males 25-40.
Para Para Moo= Appeals to Cows and Russians. Ha Ha ! I added that for fun :D
