Eurobeat in Fruity Loops.

Everything that is eurobeat can be discussed here.

So, you [Mr. Newfield] had to teach him how to use it? That's funny!!!!

I already have a simple "YAMAHA PSR-48" but I'm not satisfied at all with it.
My little sister used to play the piano. We had no money to buy a real piano so we piced up a "YAMAHA PSR-500" keyboard from my grandpa's. Like this one:

My sister quit her piano lessons a while ago and now this keyboard is onnly using space at my parents'. So, within a few days I'm getting a "YAMAHA PSR-500" keyboard.
I think it has some very good synth-sounds and realistic guitar sounds. After that I'm planning to produce some ItaloDisco style muisc at first and then gradually proceed to Eurobeat.
For the mixing I use LOGIC EXPRESS 7 which is very comparable to FRUITY LOOPS and it's compatible with GARAGE BAND's APPLE LOOPS. All in all very handy and quick. :)

I'd like to have the opinion from a real pro on this PSR-500 and combining it with LOGIC EXPRESS, since I think it's a good keyboard to start out with...

well, this yam psr 500 is a good real instruments emulator but for synths sounds can't tell the same.
Anyway Logic Express virtual instruments will help you to get the right sound.
I do use Logic Pro and some apple loops on my songs,so use your keyboard as master, get the best of your presets and logic plugs will do their job.

upgrade to logic pro a.s.a.p.(maybe when you'll get your first release)

Yeah, I use a lower-end PSR as my keyboard. Like Newfield said, good enough for "real" instruments, but the synths on it aren't anything special. Good for note entry, though, of course.

Again, find some nice (free is always nice) vst plugins for Logic, find some sounds you like, work from there. Like I said in a post earlier, Superwave P8 is a good (and free) euro-sounding vst.

Good luck!

Thanks for the tips! I was thinking for now the PSR-500 and Logic Express are a fine combination to start with.

I start out with Italo like I said, so the beginning isn't too difficult for me. Italo is the root of Eurobeat. So, if I'm right when I 'evolve' from Italo the sound becomes Eurobeat gradually. For me the fast paced synthesiser loops are also a bit hard to compose for now, so that's another reason for starting out with Italo.

For a start I think I get my inspiration from songs like "Lee Marrow - Sayonara (don't stop)", "Ken Laslo - Tonight" and "Stadio - Acqua e Sapone"... My current favorite Italo songs.

I hope to start out soon! I just have to get a few cables and the keyboard and I'm ready to go! (the song has already partly been written)

Finally! My song is done! Well, it's okay for a first time, I guess... The microphone is not that good, so my voice isn't really like it should be. I think I'll leave this song for what it is and start with a new one.

(copy-paste link please)

Used materials:
-Apple iMac G3 DV Blueberry
-Logic Express 7
-Apple Loops, Jam Pack 1 & 2 (only used beats and sound effects)
-Yamaha PSR-500 (keyboard)
-Phillips SBC MD110 (microphone)

I think I'm gonna buy me a higher-quality mike soon. My voice really is crap in this song. :(

It's okay for a start. Sounds a bit retro.

The vocals do need more work. Try compressing them a bit before adding effects to it, because the volume of the vocals is all over the place. And try less effects, they're *really* hard to make out.

The intro seems a bit off for me. It takes too long to really get into the song, and doesn't have a good opening hook. Could be tightened a bit. Take out the sitar at the start (I don't really know what that has to do with the idea of the song, and it doesn't come back in), start at the first bit of text and it'd be a lot better.

The instrumental part is a nice melody, but the arrangement needs flushed out. It sounds a bit hollow. Also, the lead synth is a bit weak, try combining it with other sounds to flush it out more. Might be my speakers, but it's lacking a good bass to it to really give it an energetic feel.

First verse is rather nice. The vocals need to be more consistant, and intelligible.

Second verse needs more of a hook to it. It doesn't have a feel to it, it needs to connect the first verse and chorus more. Not much melody to it, and the arrangement is back to being more hollow.

The chorus is also pretty empty. The vocals need to be a LOT clearer, especially with fast vocals. And a lot more powerful. I think you put in too many effects on the voice. The arrangement is still pretty empty, it doesn't have that energetic power to it that I want. The extras in the second part of the chorus are nice, but you still need something more.

Again, it *is* a good basis for something, but you need to flush out the idea a bit more. Bring the vocals to the front a fair bit more. Hopefully you'll keep working on this one, it has a lot of promise, it's just a bit empty feeling right now.

Thanks for the comment Mikareu. I know, it's just a start, And well, it just sounds crap. From now on I'm starting out with a new production.
I like your tip about the power. I thought puting in a lot of effects would make it up, but it just won't to the job. You're right about the chorus, it just isn't that different from the verse parts. It just deserves a different approach.
As I stated before, the microphone is crap. It's also kinda difficult for me to produce a good sound in Logic Express with it.
I'll bear these things in mind with my next song. :)

Yeah, the vocal volume needs a definite boost.

Fix that and you got yourself a pretty damn good song, actually.

Personally, if I were you, I'd choose a new lead synth too... but that's a matter of preference, really.

for the bass: try to hit the bass sound always exactly between your drums and i think it would sound better!

hey admin, how about starting a homerecording forum here, since it seems as if a lot of people (including me) are working on their own songs lately! would be cool ^^

http://forum.eurobeat-prime.com/viewtopic.php?t=615

A topic exists, but it kinda died. A forum would be an interesting idea. I know there's bigger ones out there, but none of them are really eurobeat oriented, and I get the feeling a lot of their advice would end up being the us saying "but that's SUPPOSED to be like that" variety.

I don't have as much experience as, say, Newfield, or more than likely a few of you out there, but I'm always happy to help where I can.

The best advice I can give right now for vocals is COMPRESSION. I'm not familiar with Logic (or Logic Express) so I don't know if it comes with a compressor, but look for one. In untechnical terms, it condenses the sound so that the loud and quiet are more evened out, so you get what seems like a louder sound.

Also, doubling voices is pretty good for adding power. It *sounds* like a chorus effect, but it isn't, if you're good (as in, can sing consistantly), the voice doesn't get distorted, and if not, for the most part it can still be fixed with some work. Just sing the line twice.

Thanks for the rooting and the tips! I'm now working on a more simple Italo or early eurobeat orientated song. That shouldn't be so hard. When it's finished I'll post it in that 'create your own song' topic! 8)

I took the tips as a guidance for this new recording and it worked out pretty well IMHO. It's at least better than te previous heap.

It sounds a bit more oldskool since getting those hyper synth loops are really hard to produce. I really should buy a DX-7... (but lacks lots of money...)

Can anyone guess the anime intro song from where the synth loop is taken?? (I didn't copy it but remastered it)

i like it :) but your drum layer needs some breaks, i guess it would sound more interesting then. for example at the end of the melody part!

btw, maybe you will like this:
http://www.nativeinstruments.de/index.p ... 103d6c2a0f

it's also not really cheap but maybe cheaper than buying a real one on ebay! and you can download it before you buy it so you can see if you will need it/can handle it ^^;;;
