I was positively surprised by the album, not exactly the best one I've heard but still a nice album all around. The King & Queen remake was something unexpectedly good, best that Sinclaire has done at least.

Wow, this album is actually quite excellent! I pretty much really like every single track here, even ones that I was initially less excited about. SEB 195 got old on me very quickly, but I think I'll be listening to these songs for quite a while actually.

Myself
10. Rick Castle- Dolcevita Tonight(HRG Attack)
Rick is certainly getting his share of songs on SEB nowadys. His style is basically of a good strong level. He doesn't venture too much out of his zone and keeps safe in the style he trusts. At the same TIME , this holds him back from really releasing the certified mega chart buster.

haha! I was reading this paragraph from my very own review for SEB 194 and I gotta say Mr. Rick Castle has made me eat my own words. I'm reffering to the magnificance that is "Stargate". I guess someone at HRG Attack read my review.LOL! Eitherway, the Starkly Ice song is just the right one I was waiting for from Mr. Castle

You gotta love SEB 196 :D

OK, alright, here is my review.

01. Special Megamix ~Vitamin Pop~ by Honmax (Avex)

To be frank, I didn't even listened to it...

Rating : N/A

02. One Day by Kate Rush (Dima)

These days, Dima never disappointed me and, yet, has to. Kate Rush is yet another entry by Dima on the Super Eurobeat serie. The song start off with a pop-fashionned and soothing intro. For the riff, it's very similar to everything that we've heard in the past. Nothing too new. The verses and chorus sound as pop-fashionned as the intro. That sound kinda off because it destroys the energy the riff gives to the song. But, on a more optimistic note, the vocals sounds very emotional. The guitar was a very nice and fitting touch to the song. I liked the song, but, obviously, it isn't the best that Dima has done.

Rating : 8+

03. Monkey Dance by Y&Co. Feat. Domino (Y&Co)

I would have never thought that Y&Co would appear once on SEB. But, I'm very disappointed to see Monkey Dance as a chosen one only because Domino is the singer. Speedy Speed Cat and Roulette are by far better than Monkey Dance. Now, we cannot choose the future since it ended up here. So let's review it. The song starts with a very standard intro with Domino's vocal before going into the riff with a very Avex mix style. The riff is very enjoyable and has a nice Eurobeat-like energy. The bad point is Domino's vocal. She sounds like she was put there only because she was the only available singer for this song. To me, anyone else would have been able to replace her here. In other words, she's annoying on this song. Structure wise, Y&Co. gave the song a very Avex-like-mix style at some points in the song (Exemple : 0:25 - 0:29 and 3:39 to 3:52). While it can work at some point, it can threw people away. For myself, it's not a song that I'm bond to listen every day like "Don't Belong" but it's a song that merits at least it's occasional play.

Rating : 8-

04. Mamma Mia by Veronica (Eurogrooves)

Being a fan of covers, I was looking forward to this song. But, along the way, I changed my mind rather fast and mainly because of the previews. It pained me because Eurogrooves is a very good label and produced, even if it's new, super good tracks since SEB 192. Now, with the song, it starts with a very nice and stylished intro with an hyper techno feel (at least for the first part). The riff is totally out of place. It feels like something important is missing. The same thing happen for the rest of the song. It has a nice production without any doubts but it just doesn't work. It was badly remixed or maybe, more like, it had not enough thoughts on how to remix it. Anyway, I'm bound to forget this song because it was a way below-par song.

Rating : 6

05. Love In The Elevator by Dave Rodgers (A-Beat-C)

Dave made a come back during the last volume to offer a "Disco-dave" track. I enjoyed it and, even if I wished for another song like that, I had absolutely no hope for this song. To my surprise, it turns out not so bad. The intro starts off with some drums and some guitars then a nice beat plus guitar appears making a nice intro overall. Then, the riff pops in. Ta-da! "Disco-Dave" riff! I'm gonna say that it's a positive point to the song but at the same time, I'm not attracted too much by it. For the verses and chorus, the problem is not Dave. The actual problem is the sound world making him sound very annoying. Thus, I don't feel like liking this song a lot.

Rating : 6+

06. Bye Bye Tokyo by Delta Queens (Delta)

To start off this song, I must say that I had a neutral point of view on this song. So, like that, I wouldn't be deceived by having high hopes. The first thing I actually noticed on this song is that it's fast. Actually, it's 162 BPM. I alwasy had a liking in very fast music. The song starts with a very catchy intro. It's an intro that would bring anyone into the song. The riff is very Delta-like even if Newfield doesn't have a "generic riff" (something like Hi-NRG Attack). Actually, on second thought, it sounds quite different from the usual Delta faire. The verse and chorus are VERY catchy. The line "Domo arigatou" actually adds a nice catchy touch to the song because it's Japanese and rapidly stands out of the rest of the song. I enjoy this song. Maybe not the best Delta has done but at least, it has a nice potential from being a hit.

Rating :

07. Bright Time by Jay Lehr (SCP)

In the past, Jay Lehr actually only really pleased me once with "I'm Alive" with its disco touch. I would be lying if I say that I had high hopes for this song. Actually, it's one of my favorite on the album. I really love the melody used. It has this kind of disco touch I really love. It really fits with the vocals. It's very hard to describe how the song works so good. The disco pop soundworld works very well and that is the most important part. That said, I don't think that I need to tell my position on this song.

Rating : 10

08. Hanami by April (SCP)

When you see that a new "artist" is added to a label, our curiosity only increase. At first, we ask ourselves Which label made that song? then, once the preview heard, Who is singing?. Then, without any expectation, everyone was surprised that it was a software singing and not an actual singer. Then, it reminds me of Hatsune Miku, that Vocaloid caracther, for some reasons. The song itself, even if the vocals are from a computer, strangely works. The intro can throw away some listeners because it's not usually in SCP's faire of doing intros. It sounds like an A-Beat-C one to be honest and so is the riff. The soundworlds during the verse and chorus is very SCP like even if it sounds a little different from usual. All and all, I really enjoy listening to this track. Also, I'm still thinking that the software generated vocals sounds a lot to Ai's.

Rating : 9+

09. Give Me Sunshine by Futura (A-Beat-C)

Again, when a new vocalist is added to a label, our curiosity only grows. Those addition are sometimes for the better or, for this case, for the worst. This song hasn't too much potential even if it has some nice touch. The intro is very nice and has a calm melody. The vocals before the riff highly reminds of Tatu's "All The Thing She Said" kind of singing. Then, a very nice riff pops out. After that, we got a below-par verse and chorus. The only thing that is bound to be remembered in this song is the riff. Well, in my opinion, the song isn't bad but it could have been much better.

Rating : 7

10. Stargate by Starkly Ice (Hi-NRG Attack)

Never someone, before hearing the preview or the full song, would have guessed that this was Hi-NRG Attack. This song has an highly inhabitual Hi-NRG Attack sound and length. The intro is, unlikely the rest of the song, very generic Hi-NRG Attack. Where the things change is during the riff. Very unusual from Hi-NRG. The song itself highly reminds me of SCP's style of ballads and the most, the chorus. Myself, I think the song is very nice effort of variety but it doesn't mean I enjoy it as much as I could praise earlier. In fact, the song sounds like a standard euro ballad with nothing out of the ordinary but I do prop Hi-NRG for the change.

Rating : 7+

11. Upside Down by Queen 26 (Delta)

In the past, I've never been a die hard fan of Queen 26. In fact, I wasn't. And, this hasn't change with this song. While the intro is very Hi-NRG like in wackyness and full energy, the rest of it isn't that great with some weird sounding riff and some off-track vocals and unoriginal soundworld that doesn't help the whole. In my opinion, this song is probably one of the worst of the album. It doesn't have anything special except on being annoying.

Rating : 5

12. Pirates by Rich Hard (A-Beat-C)

This song, against all odds, had a lot of positive feedback and I can see why. While this song is A-Beat-C, it doesn't sound like A-Beat-C at all. The intro sounds like a Time intro. The riff is out of the ordinary A-Beat-C's usual faire. The vocals are also out of the ordinary especially in the chorus. You can remark that during the line "Piartes of Pirates of". The song is pretty good. It's an over-par A-Beat-C song. At first, it could sound weird but, if looked in depth, it's a gem. For myself, I like it but it's not the ultimate hit. I hope A-Beat-C keep that road.

Rating :

13. King And Queen by Tora (SinclaireStyle)

This song, we have to say it, had the less expectation on the forum : Sincalire remaking an all-time favorite. While some are saying that this song is a total fail, some says that it's very good. I'm in the later. In fact, it's the real first song I ever enjoyed a lot from Sinclaire. The heavy soundworld, the very hyper techno-like intro and heaby riffs make the song incredibly good and even better than the original. COME ON!, it's better than the original! Without any hesitation!

Rating : 10

14. Shot Shot Shot by Giorgia V. (Go Go's Music)

A while ago I messaged Giorgia on Youtube (to her message) saying that I would be looking forward to her next song. Well, I, now, kinda want to take back my words because it isn't as good as I thought it would be. Truth is that the song is very good but I have a small hunch. The hunch I have against isn't anything melody wise like the intro, the riff, or the soundworlds because they are incredibly good. It's the vocals that annoys me a little. Beside that, it's a very good song. No worries. But, the annoyingness can be overcome over a few listen.

Rating : 9

Overall thoughts :

Overall, this album sounds really average. While some songs are pretty good some are only so-so or not good. That means that this album is in the average SEB album we had in the past. For myself, I sure have this feeling of unsatisfaction inside me mainly because of the last album that were highly phenomenal like SEB 195, 193 and 192 where almost every single songs were hits. The theme, even if it's kinda not clear, is respected. The soundworlds are very pop sounding and we even have a few remakes of popular songs. I hope that, in the future, Avex continues with this kind of release and opens up to the world instead of putting nails in their own coffin. The best of both world would be average album (like this one), very good albums like SEB 195 and online downloads for everyone where we could easily encourage the genre we like the most.

Overall Rating :

Top 3 :
- Jay Lehr - Bright Time
- Tora - King And Queen ~Classic Mix~
- April - Hanami

Bottom 3

"Upside Down" by Queen 26
"Love In The Elevator" by Dave Rodgers
"Mamma Mia" by Veronica

Honorable Mentions
"Stargate" by Starkly Ice
-> Props for trying something new and longer

-> Props for the road taken by A-Beat-C

Labels countdown :
A-Beat-C : 3
SCP : 2
Delta : 2
Eurogrooves : 1
Saifam : 0
SinclaireStyle : 1
Hi-NRG Attack : 1
Go Go's Music : 1
Dima : 1
Y&Co. : 1

P.S I wrote a so long review and yet, I just don't want to read myself to check for typos XD. Took about 2 hours to write.

First off your reviews are getting better and better Lebon, I remeber some drastic dismissing words on your first reviews. I don't agree too much, except a few songs, but it's still a good review. I'll just reply to a few of your lines.

Lebon14
02. One Day by Kate Rush (Dima)
These days, Dima never disappointed me and, yet, has to.
That sums up Dima's current releases perfectly.

Lebon14
03. Monkey Dance by Y&Co. Feat. Domino (Y&Co)
The bad point is Domino's vocal. She sounds like she was put there only because she was the only available singer for this song.
I actually think her vocals added to the charm of the song.

Lebon14
06. Bye Bye Tokyo by Delta Queens (Delta)
The riff is very Delta-like even if Newfield doesn't have a "generic riff" (something like Hi-NRG Attack).
If you like that you should give Boom Boom Sexy lady a listen.

Lebon14
07. Bright Time by Jay Lehr (SCP)
It's very hard to describe how the song works so good.
The word Ouph comes to mind :D

Lebon14
10. Stargate by Starkly Ice (Hi-NRG Attack)
The song itself highly reminds me of SCP's style of ballads and the most, the chorus.
Listen to Eurobeat Flash 1-4 as well as TIME in mid 90's and you'll hear that was HRG Attacks original sound.

Lebon14
12. Pirates by Rich Hard (A-Beat-C)
While this song is A-Beat-C, it doesn't sound like A-Beat-C at all.
Totally different composers. Dave doesn't appear in the song's credits.

Lebon14
13. King And Queen by Tora (SinclaireStyle)
The heavy soundworld, the very hyper techno-like intro and heaby riffs make the song incredibly good and even better than the original. COME ON!, it's better than the original! Without any hesitation!
Ammm, No :P

Most GGM productions have so much going on that it bemuddles you, but 'Monkey Dance' would be the first GGM song I'd call hollow and rather skeletal. I'd have to agree that Gatti doesn't sound the best either. I really enjoyed the Y&Co. original, but this remake stands no chance.

Along with Pagal, Para Girl and Too Young To Fall In Love, it would have to be one of the worst of the decade to me. Fortunately, the rest of the album was really good. Even the Futura song wasn't anywhere near as bad.

Hanami just keeps growing on me. I have no idea why, considering it's not my type of SCP production, but there's something quite magical about it. Can't quite put my finger on it.

Curses, Y&Co didn't add the new synth riff from IIDX on MOnkey Dance. I liked that one more. Honestly, if Domino had to remake another Y&Co song, it should be I'm In Love Again, even though they remixed the original.

King and Queen makes me jump for joy. Never expected it to top the original. I now have second thoughts on a possible Yesterday remake.

Keep in mind that this remake is not GoGo's Music either. It is still a Y&Co. production and the only thing it has to do with GGM is Domino's vocals. This may explain why people find it so strange for a 'GGM song'.

I have to say I really like the three covers that Eurogrooves have put out. There's just something right about giving those songs the super-deep bass.

Im not saying the song is strange at all. I love the song actually. But it's just Domino's vocals on this one i find a bit different than usual. (The GGM part)

After multiple listen through, SEB196 is unfortunately my least favorite album this decade so far.

Songs I liked:

Kate Rush - One Day
It's definitely a pretty song, and the synthline brings me back to older vibration times.

Veronica - Mamma Mia
Best song on the album! The original ABBA song is a huge classic to live up to, and this remix gives it exactly the silliness and fun it deserves. The feeling is very true to the original, but the energy boost is intense!

Delta Queens - Bye Bye Tokyo
It's pretty much to Boom Boom Sexy Lady what Bad Bad Bad is to Boom Boom Fire. I enjoyed it for what it is, but it's not groundbreaking.

Jay Lehr - Bright Time
Second best song of the CD! I LOVE the super groovy vibes and the very lush synthline. Jay Lehr's voice is sexy :x

Queen 26 - Upside Down
fun fun fun!! It really reminds me of something that could have been sung by Sara/Madison/Pizza Girl. Definitely more energetic than the average Queen 26 track!

Tora - King And Queen
Quite an interesting take on this Eurobeat classic. It's NOT better than the original, BUT it's enjoyable nevertheless.

The rest of the album didn't impress me. The pirates song made me laugh, but not in a good Kiki & Fancy Way. I found it kinda lame. Stargate is not what I look forward from Hi NRG Attack. Love in the elevator sounds like just another average Dave track.

Hanami, Monkey Dance remix & Shot Shot Shot weren't bad, but i'm tempted to skip them if i'm really in a listening mood and not just to have music in the background.

But still, why Y&Co. decided to remove all these niceties from the original version is beyond me, such as the extended riff. The fact that Y&Co. did it and not Go Go's Music is only more perplexing; he took a huge step backwards.

The vocalist in the original Monkey Dance also sings with a greater passion, whereas Domino appears as if she's losing her voice or is simply getting tired of singing. So, in the end it's not really a matter of who produced it, whether it be Y&Co., Go Go's Music or Paris Hilton; the song is just terrible in every aspect.
