Hmmm everyone that i've talked to says they either Love or Hate this album, and I can definitely see why. Seems like all the Domino/Lolita/ABeatC category fans arent too impressed and all the Eurodance/Disco/Time fans are very pleased. Diehard Eurobeat fans seem dissapointed, but I'm not =/ Guess it's just a matter of taste, because this album doesnt offer much variety in terms of style. Most songs on this one are fast and mostly all adopt the same sound, and i'm very much a big fan of the Eurodance/Disco style of Eurobeat. (aka Bore hated Another Life but I thought Love and Rage was a piece of crap.)

So, overall, not everyones gonna be pleased, but those who are wont find a song they hate on this one, like me.

Also Bore, pretty harsh there XD but its okay, I only liked 3 songs on 176, and yes, mine is "slightly" more favorable :D

AKIYAMA SUPER AISHU EURO COUNTDOWN HOT SELECTION REVIEW 100

Greetings! Here is my tiny review of the series!

1. Daniel/ONE MORE TRY

8/10

At first I was bracing myself as I always do for any new intro tracks, but like quick a few other SEB Volumes, the into song was excellent. It takes me back to the days of Initial D Selection, actually. DANIEL's vocals are pleasant and melodious to the air without being "rock ya BODY" like FASTWAY's or angsty like ACE's.

2. Wendy White/TAKE AWAY

7/10

This is a song that gives a slight Italodisco flair while still being modern and true to Eurobeat. It's a smooth, easy track with enough energy to keep me interested, and the Vocals aren't screamy, which is a nice change.

3. Mark Astley/IRON MAN

7/10

I braced myself expecting to hear some Ozzy Osbourne-style guitar, but I was taken by surprise by energetic, bubbly synths and a good, fast kick behind it, with uplifting, albeit nonsensical vocals. Which is always a plus in my books.

4. Nuage/SINGING ON THE STARS

7/10

Why is it that Nuage keeps sounding like a good Trance/Club track every time she releases something? Maybe she's trying to appeal to other listeners as well? It sure doesn't bother me, though, because I love both genres and this works excellently with me. Another good Nuage track, far better than the shitfest that was GIVE ME A SIGN.

5. Kelly T./COME BABY LOVE ME

5/10

Um.

It's standard romantic-type eurobeat. It's not bad, but it's certainly not something SPECIAL or particularly special. Skip it if you want, I only listened to it for the sake of reviewing, but I couldn't think of anything good to say about it.

6. Kiki and Fancy/GO BANANAS

7/10

I was bracing myself for a crapfest of annoyingness from reading what other people had to say, but holy jeez this track is good. It reminds me of something off the SUPER EURO FLASH compilations or the CAMPUS SUMMIT albums. High-energy nonsensical party music to get people jumping on the dance floor, good stuff, even if they do repeat the chorus a bit.

7. Fastway/CRASH BOOM BURN ME UP

6/10

ENNIO, why you do this?

Why did you go the route of so many Euro artists and just do something that sounds like your old tracks, except rehashed? It's not bad, but seriously, some inspiration here, Mr. ZANINI! Don't fall into normalcy like everyone else! But of course I like this track because I am SCP's unrequited whore. Thus, the positive score.

8. Cyberella/I AM CYBERELLA

3/10

Engh.

My ears.

I would love to give this track a higher score but the tinny synths and annoying voice = no. Good melody and good beat but everything else is bad.

9. Leo/ANOTHER LIFE

7/10

Woah, is this PHIL? More Italo-Disco smoothness here. Not a fast track, but it's a groovy, melodious, easy on the ears track after the painfest of the previous track. Hurrah for the forces of TIME again, saving me from Hi-NRG's madness!

10. Alexis/NIGHT PRAYER

7/10

Why does this track remind me of a toned down version of Leslie Parrish' REMEMBER ME? This of course is very, very good and earns it props, especially since ALEXIS is singing a song that suits her voice excellently for once. Earns her a good mark.

11. Powerful T./DANGEROUS LOVE

7/10

This track makes me reminisce about ACE OF SPADES and BACK TO THE RISING SUN. Some good, pleasing vocals that croon along to the synths and the driving beat, that is so alike that of a hard rock ballad. Another good Powerful T. track, no complains here!

12. Candy Taylor/FLY

5/10

Mmmm...far better than the utter crap that EUROBEAT KIND OF LOVE was, but this is a forgettable, plain track, and nothing that I would really want to listen to again and again when I've got the CD in my car.

13. Kasanova/WHAT KIND OF CURE

4/10

It's more or less a rehash of YOU AND ME FOREVER. I'm not a big fan of KASANOVA, not because his work is bad, but because he tries too hard to imitate the groovier, Disco-style eurobeat while still keeping it modern, and it just doesn't work to well. And it's uninspired.

14. Garcon/HANNIBAL THE CANNIBAL

6/10

It's Hi-NRG's work, that's for sure. Silly lyrics, fast, energetic synth line and speedy beats. It's like a jolt of caffeine, that's for sure. It's not all that bad actually, and I'd probably end up listening to it quite often sooner or later.

15. Leslie Parrish/KING OF HEART

6/10

Speak of the devil-here's Ms. PARRISH herself in the flesh, or should I say the voice. The introduction startled me, but the song's pretty good for yer garden-standard Romantic eurobeat. Got a chick pleasuring herself in the background-a prelude to KEN MARTIN's track, which happens to be on this album as well?

16. Dave Rodgers/WATCH OUT

8/10

SPACE BOY 2007. That's what I thought when I listened to this. Another rockingly awesome track by Mr. GIANCARLO, with that metal style of RED CORE. Whoever was playing that axe-props. Mad props indeed, A-BEAT-C studios.

17. Ai Yamamoto/PINK IN THE PINK

7/10

Well.

This is a lot better than the utterly, utterly horrible song that WONDERFUL was. The synths really stood out. This is good track right here, and AI-san's improved vocals make it all that much better. Seems like she finally learned how to keep a melody.

18. Manuel/READY STEADY GO!

11/10

HELL. F_CKIN. YES.

I was so pumped after listening to this track. SO FREAKIN' PUMPED. MANUEL picked up the slack after FASTWAY dropped the ball on this album with an awesome track with 'tea-bag-you-in-the-face' energy and fury! As soon as I heard the into with the revving engines and the guitar, I knew that I was in for an awesome ride, and MANUEL didn't disappoint me. I was even singing along, which means that I really liked it!

READY!

STEADY!

GOOOOOOOOO!!!! :!:

===============================

THE VERDICT:

177 is a good album, with very few disappointments. Erase the CYBERELLA track and I would give this volume a perfect score with no problems. It's excellent to see the Go Go's music on this CD without Domino rearing her off-key head anywhere nearby. Sorry, Ms. Gatti, but I just can't bring myself to like your music, if you're reading this!

Oh, and the bonus disc wins HARD for SEXY SEXY SEXY and MADE OF FIRE.

THE GOOD:

1. MANUEL/READY STEADY GO!
2. DAVE RODGERS/WATCH OUT
3. DANIEL/ONE MORE TRY

THE BAD:

1. CYBERELLA/I AM CYBERELLA
2. KASANOVA/WHAT KIND OF CURE

Sank yuu! :!:

After completing the review I've tried listening to the album more and there are a few songs that might get a 2nd look later on. One More Try, Iron Man and I am Your Cyberella might actually get a bit better grades in the end, but these are the only ones, otherwise I'm pretty determined by my original feelings with the album.

It's still a load of crap mostly for me... Fly is a good eurodance song but it's at the wrong place imo.

ALSO The K&F fanboy in me starts to like the song the more I listen to it, I guess I'll end up loving it, but it sure isn't Rolypoly rock or Tuttifrutti lollipop in terms of an instant hit.

I should probably use another term other than "tea bag"...Oresama is probably running over into this thread so fast he can't close his mouth and his cheeks are balloonin' out with wind.

I think this was more of an experimental album, seeing how everything from new titles to a different placement in text on the cover appeared. Even though I thought it was good, heres hoping to 178 having some D.Essex or Marko Polo, hopefully Matt Land and more Domino.

BEST ALBUM OF THE 170s, BY FAR.

Delta ran away with this, by a mile. One More Try, Fly, and King of Heart are all EXCELLENT.

Watch Out is great too. If only Mega NRG Man was singing it instead of Dave, it would be my new favorite... Dave's voice just isn't powerful enough for the song...

and HOLY CHRIST, Manuel rocks my world AGAIN.

This is the best album since the Godlike 157, and makes up for the awful 176, just like 157 made up for the abysmal 154.

EDIT : Upon further review, 176, while disappointing, wasn't really all that bad. That was a little bit of an unfair statement.

I've been lately thinking a lot about the current state of SEB. I was thinking of reviewing old stuff from pre SEB100 and after glancing at the albums I noticed that they're nearly filled with good stuff that will surely be getting high grades if I start doing that.

I'm probably not the only one who agrees that time (no not TIME drnrg) does miracles on memories and even the bad songs turn out to sound better and better by time. It's still sort of hard to do much about that with very recent releases as it's not very comparable to stuff you've been listening for years already.

So I'm sorta trying to re-consider the current grading manners or trying to figure out a way to make it a bit more possible for future opinion changes. Yet I haven't really come up with such. Possibly add in an option to give a 2nd Look at the songs later on.

Other thing might be that with the current low grades that albums get are just due to level going down and not the fact that there's not enough time to get really acquinted with albums.

Also with this notice, I'm working on doing some more old reviews as I sorta felt so nostalgic the other day when I suddenly started feeling like doing more reviews again. Also possibly an idea of having an user review section is what I'd like as an idea for the main site and not just forum.

Oh and a really important notice, I've graduated from polytechnic (or well am technically not yet but just waiting to get the papers) so you all can congratulate me. *waits for a flood of omedetos*

*insert flood of omedetos*

(no really, congrats!)

As for the user-reviews, I like the idea. More point-of-views from different people is better, because then you can read reviews from someone who shares your taste, making the review more usefull to yourself. ;D

So in other words we get a chance to review older seb volumes on your main site?

Just kidding, but seriously CONGRATS! I know Polytech is great university to open doors on your choice of career. Keep up the hard work. 8)

Just popped in to say that I found these Daniel Danieli tracks you guys were talking about and it's definitely the same voice as One More Try.
So, we can safely assume that Daniel = Daniel Danieli = Marco Rancati.
Another Eurobeat mystery solved!

Personally as far as reviewing goes, I'd certainly be up for that if you added a user review section - I have to confess I see your point where reviewing old SEBs is concerned. At some point I really want to go over all the SEBs I have and review all the songs.

Though would you make the review scoring system you use mandatory across all reviewers? I prefer a system of 1-10 out of 10 (where poor songs really do get 1 star and not just a 4 or 5) - but obviously I guess that's something you have to consider :)

Perhaps a Reviews forum can be set up for the time being for those of us who feel we want to review albums before the official section on the site is setup?

Or maybe something like words. 'this song really sucks', 'I don't really like it', 'It's not bad, but nothing special either', 'I like this one', 'It's a cool song', 'I LOEV IT!', 'OMG I LUV THIS MOAR TAHN MUDKIPS'.

This way you won't have differences in what people would consider a 6, for example. :)

WTF?!! More than mudkips? no way!

Anyhow, you have a very good point there. Any grading system we would decide on should be followed with a written description of each grade to make it easier to compare both songs and the various taste buds of the reviewers.

Well a 1-10 grading system should be pretty obvious if used properly ;) As in, an average song really does get 4-6 and not an 8 like some stupid gaming magazine.

I'm not sure 40% would be considered average by any grading system, though... 60-70% seems more about average by most grading systems.
