05 NICK & SAMANTHA - BUBBLE GUM [04:33]
This is one of the few low points on this album for me. For some bizarre reason, I can't listen to this song without thinking that it's a Dave Rodgers & Annalise duet after they've had a few too many wines/beers!! Just the way the vocals are crafted and produced makes them sound like a poor A-Beat C sappy duet cover, with a sprinkling of alcohol and a silly theme during the chorus. Everyone should know by now that I've not a massive D. Rodgers & Annalise duet fan, so this sadly overshadows an otherwise fairly preppy and happy song. Its slow BPM and jingling bells give it an almost Christmassy feel, which makes it even more confused-sounding to me. The chorus in unison sounds a bit like a drunken sing-a-long at the end of a birthday party as well. Who knows - this may grow on me, but at the moment it's just a very confused and rather annoying mish-mash of styles that I'm not overly keen on.
Score: 6
I totally disagree here. being the only HRG Attack duet that at least comes to my mind, I think they did a great job. What did you expect from HRG duet. What makes this one so much worse than a SCP ACE duet with X female? Anyway, I actually thought that was the one song that broke from HRG Attack norm and really sounded fun without being Tacky Stinky and Wang ridiculous. :P
Lol, it's obvious that you guys have really different tastes - neither the_ditz nor I can possilby see how the track Unbelievable deserves a 10/10 in any way, while both of us defend 2 Love, 4 Love and Switch! as absolute masterpieces in the SCP catalogue. We both find those songs to be incredibly well-produced and catchy, while Unbelievable is just a big, boring lump of mush (I can't comment on Bubblegum, as I haven't bought PPC 5 yet)!

Thank you so much for posting some feedback to the_ditz's reviews, though; we were just having a conversation today, and he told me that he was worried that his comments were not receiving very much attention, so it's great to finally see some discussion emerge from his PPC 5 review!

Well, I think the whole point of reviews is to get feedback, otherwise why waste out TIME posting them.

Bubblegum was the only song from his review which caused me to retort. I just think it's great :D

There is only one ACE duet that I like and that was the one with Mellisa White called Raining In My Heart. I still think that one had a older style Keyboard riff and while his later duets had more of a melocholy vibe(a style I don't think SCP has mastered the way Dall Ora and Newfield have) I still think Raining... had a more youthful sound, which SCP excells at; though not always on every song.

I did initially give Dave's duet on 10, but since then has grown dreary to my ears. The intro was the funnest thing about the track, but once I heard about 10 Dave duets in a row, I realized how "rehashy" it really is, thus it fell big on my top 30 countdown. Then again most songs from 192 fell compared to the amazing material HRG Attack pulled out this week.

Yeah, to be honest I just can't get over the Dave & Annalise effect that comes to mind everytime I listen to Bubble Gum. Don't get me wrong, it has its fun moments, but on he whole its just severely tainted by the dull and dreary mush that A-Beat C have been putting out duet-wise.

And the vocal work on Rocket In My Pocket is great - I adore all Jeff Driller tracks for a number of reasons, one of which being the vocal tone and delivery which always sounds direct by not too harsh. I miss the old Eurobeat Flash style of production of HRG tracks.

Still waiting for an iTunes release of these, of course it can take a few weeks(sometimes months) between Juno and iTunes, as seen with Delta.

BTW, the fabled Eurobeat Dance Power Worldwide 4(LED, defunct?) still has yet to appear, at least on US iTunes. What's the longest it's taken Apple to distribute an album after it's announcement?

According to an email response from LMS/HRG, Riki 1/Harry Ken's first name is Alessio(didn't disclose his last name). Doesn't sound like Alessio Milani, and I doubt it's Garavello(of The Snake) either.

So who do you prefer on Jeff Driller vocals? Rimonti or Corraini. Remeber he also did a few other Rimonti aliases like Lucky Boy, Jungle Bill, Francis Cooper and to my surprise, Franz Tornado. It's almost like Federicco took a break or something. You also notice how tracks that Corraini sang had a lighter synth sound to them ,but still sounded like good old trumpets.

Personally, I probably prefer Rimonti as his tracks have been my favourites (Control Alt Delete And Blow, Work Like An Egyptian, Oh Oh Cowboy etc.) but Corraini's vocals suit the older Eurobeat Flash style of production far better, which is another reason why Rocket In My Pocket works so well.

And of course, in HRG's first year or so, Roberto Gabrielli was behind all of the male aliases, including Garcon and Franz Tornado(although he only did one song for each of those names).

I loved Roby's heavy accented vocals the best, but yeah, that was short lived.

Huh...that's weird.

Has anyone else noticed that both Tornado & Friends and the Ganguro Parapara Allstars releases have been taken down from Juno? I'm not overly fussed as I had those releases already, but it's a bit weird that they just seemed to suddenly vanish.

Hope it's not a sign that we won't be getting anymore Hi-NRG Attack releases on Juno... :?

I don't know about Tornado & Friends, but Ganguro Parapara Allstars was missing Flying Around The World, so it's possible they've been taken down to add missing tracks.

The Speed & The Furious and The Trailblazers (but not ParaPara Cool, Vol. 5) are both on iTunes now.

I see the delay in releasing PPC vol. 5, it also took a few days to appear on Juno after the first two albums. Is it on iTunes yet? Of course you know Apple, it could take MONTHS, hopefully not.
