This little stinger flew under the radar...
http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/intern ... d360847623

Wow. Live Music Studio is pretty pissed if they're going so far as to name an album after the song title... it's a bit like watching your usually-silent friend go into a frenzy about something— it may actually be worth listening if such a silent voice goes so loud.

That said, let's review some clips.

INTERNET KILLS THE EUROBEAT STARS: I haven't bought SEB202 so I don't know if it differs from the "album version", but it actually doesn't sound as bad as everyone's making it out to be. I may pick this one up after all.
I AM A LIAR: Slowed down, unpitched, and somewhat coherent. Has HRG gone emo? I couldn't pick much up from the preview, but it sounds like a Rick-Castle-esque ditty. I may or mayn't pick this one up.
FEVER IS LIKE A ROLLING STONE: Another "flailing-single-note" synth line, ugh. I can't say it grasps me as much as the last two.
ON THE GINZA: HOLY CRAP THEY CAN WRITE MORE THAN THE FLAILING-SINGLE-NOTE. And this song HITS. The preview has convinced me to buy it.
ELECTRONIC LOVE: I prefer the Magnetic type. :U Anyway, it's another single-note-flail synth line, that doesn't grasp me much, a bit like Rolling Stone before it. Pass. Sorry.
MAXIMUM SPEED: ENOUGH WITH THE DAMNED SINGLE-NOTE SYNTH, HRG. I love your songs when they actually have a compelling riff! That said, Garcon is in good shape in this song, I may still buy it once I've scoped out the rest.
ARE YOU READY: More single-note-flail. More of it. Please no more of it. Please? No more. Make it die, use fire if necessary. HRG is VERY creative and the use of such a weak synth sound is only stabbing itself in the foot. CHORDS. OR SOMETHING. ANYTHING BUT "flail-flbl-FLWWWW-fleeblefleeble"!!!
HOT CORE DANCE FLOOR: Now THIS is more like it!!! Synth sound finally changes again, Garcon is still in good shape, and the song is simple and effective. Also purchased.
TOKYOBEAT: YES!!! HRG knows to go away from the "SNF" after all, and it's another simple-hitter. Not my cup of tea but it's definitely in better shape than some of the others.
LIKE A FEVER: The only thing that keeps me from liking this song a lot is that I really can't get caught on the synth riff/hook. It's a slight bit more explorative than previous HRG entries, but not my thing.
MY SPY GUY: BOUGHT. You guys, if avex only picked songs like this, we'd have better SEBs as a whole. HRG clearly still has what it takes, it's just stuck with a weak synth riff sound every so often. This song is another simple, CATCHY (!!!), hitting tune like some of the better entries before it. Is Rimonti no longer singing for the label? They're really stretching Garcon pretty thin on this album... I miss good 'ol Franz, not to say that Garcon is bad by any means, but... we like Rimonti too. ;~;

I can't tell the difference between 'Maximum Speed,' 'Are You Ready,' and 'Fever is Like a Rolling Stone' sound-wise. Seriously.

Anyway, out of all of them, 'Tokyobeat' and 'I Am a Liar' sounded the most interesting (although I wouldn't call either of them classics). Is 'I Am a Liar' the only song on the entire album with a different BPM from the rest? I don't have a program that measures BPMs but it sounds like it... How monotonous. Rest of the songs were a snorefest. Heard it all before.

Come to think of it, I actually miss Franz. Same with Andrea Girbaudo (Rick Castle). They always had the best HRG songs on SEB with actual replay value. I think I'm just sick of hearing Festari and that female they keep using.

The good news is that I'm pretty sure Frederico Rimonti is still singing for the label. He may have dropped the Jeff Driller alias to Festari, but we can definitely still hope for new Franz Tornado, Mad Cow, and Jungle Bill songs.

review....blablabla
...and it's up on Juno too! :D These clips are so long that it's quite easy to review. The only thing really missing is the intro, which really only adds a pointt more to my initial clip rating. I'll definately pick this one up with SEB 203 to get a double dose of Eurobeat for the month of May :D

Internet Kills The Eurobeat Stars

Image

1. Princess F - Internet Kills The Eurobeat Stars (extended)
2 weeks into SEB 202 and I have to admit the song has grown on me a bit. I still don't think that Buggles' 80s song melody fits HRG Attack's style. Like I mentioned before, the only real part that hits me is the melody in the verses and a bit of the bridge, but the drastic change melodywise of the chorus is a turn off TIME & TIME again. Not too crazy about the vocal range either. It still slightly hovers over a 6+ in my book,
7-/10

2. Lilly - I Am A Liar (extended)
Damn I'm treally loving this song. Forget the bpms, even though they are superb, but that Melody is very Italo wise. I know it borrows from some classic's synth line, I just can't recall right now. So this is a sneak peak at what her hit on SEB 203 will sound like eh? Very nicely done. The verses kinda extend out a bit ,but it works like a charm for this song and everyTIME that riff comes along, I feel like I'm listening to an early 90's Eurobeat song. I'm very inclined to give this clip a 10 , but I'll wait for it's full appearance to be sure.
9+/10

3. Louise - Fever Is Like A Rolling Stone (extended)
Louise is one of my favourite singers at HRG. "Love Me On The Phone" is still fresh on my mind. What this clip contains is that 3rd verse, where most of the music is dropped, so as to hear raw sounds and a bare bassline that introdues that mini guitar solo that sounds really great. The chorus sounds very aggressive, but I can also concider it the least interesting part of the song, however, the mega fast riff returns the song to it's right direction. Definately a song that will grow on me.
8/10

4. Louise - On The Ginza (extended)
Two songs by Louise. Now that is a treat. I agree that this clip sounds slightly more compelling than "Fever..." What I really love is the build up effect the bridge has, Even her vocals go go up in range right before she sings the chours. I have no idea WTF a Ginza is, but if it inspires a great sounding song like this one, than who cares? This is a song that sounds different style in the riff and is played completely different as well.
9/10

5. Baby Gold - Electronic Love (extended)
I can't recall too many songs with aggressive sounding titles for Baby Gold. "Take Me InTo Fire" from Bazooka Girls are back and of course "Bang Bang Lady Night" and who can forget the mega "I Need Your Passion"?. Anyway she seems to have more of the hyped vocal ranges ,so it's nice for her to sing a nice semi aggressive song for the label. The best part is the churus, as the words Electronic Love flow really smoothly with the melody. The verse sounds best in the 3rd couplet and that bridge is simply wonderful once you hear the raw guitar and somewhat dreamy synths. Anyway, A solid sounding clip.
10/10

6. Garcon - Maximum Speed (extended)
I have to admit that I can't tell the differernce between this song and some of Cy-Ro's latest songs. It just kinda seems the two aliases are morphing into one. For me this one has the heard it all before effect. same raceing sound effects and what not. I would rather Garcon take on a song like Fast Food Bikers. This is not a bad song, per say, but even the style he sings in the verses sounds too much like "Walk Around The Jungle" ect...
7+/10

7. Boogaboo - Are You Ready (extended)
Now this is hilarious, but ever since Festeri took over the old Magnani title, his songs all sound like Buga Buga Chew Chew. It's actually an uplifting melody That I really enjoy, but I could honestly mix this one What Rocket Do You Want and Buga Buga and say it's the same song. Anyway, if Festari doing his best Magnani impression and trying to sound like a Mote Mote song doesn't bother you, than this song is for you. I'm kinda torn, cuz I expected something more from Bugaboo, but at least Festari is trying some lower octave thingy with his vocals. I guess that's pretty cool.
7+/10

8. Jeff Driller - Hot Core Dance Floor (extended)
Now this is more like it. Mega Chart Buster from Jeff Driller! Weather it be Rimonti or Festari the songs for Jeff never seem to lose that magic. "That's My car" is still in my top 10 because of it's Italo inspired riff and it sounds like this new song follws that same guidline. Again I hear a distinct melody from an Italo oldie synth riff speeded up, but man does that sound SWEET! Pretty much a perfect HRG Attack song to my ears.
10+/10

9. MaraNell - Tokyobeat (extended)
Hot damn! Mara Nell is really on fire now days. She can go both ways in musical style. Romantic Aishu "You Won't Cry Tonight" or Aggressive stuff like "Tom Tom Go" She seems to have hit another bonafide bullseye with her latest offereing. The chorus is really simple ,but addictive, followed by a sort of rehashed riff, but one that you never get tired of. Both are really grasping the listener, but the part that your feet won't deny that stomping action has to be the melody in the verses. This song really doesn't seem to let up for one second. surely leave you sweating if you decide to take it on and dance to it. Perfeto!
10/10

10. Joe Banana - Like A Fever (extended)
This clip took a few listeneds to get into, but I really feel it surpasses the other Joe Banana song on this compilation. The added aiys aiys and ahhahas sound really good and by the TIME the chorus rolls around, you will surely be singing along. It's catchy and has all the aggressive ingredients Festari's vocals are notorious for. Even the riff; that at first sounds like a rehash takes an unexpected turn. Really a great tune for Joe once you get into it.
9/10

11. Joe Banana - My Spy Guy (extended)
I'm really kinda dissapointed that HRG decided to end this great compilation with a sort of mediocre Joe song. This song really doesn't add anything new in ideas and not even melodywise, since by the TIME the chorus finishes you will probobly drift off and began singing Sex Gun Sex Gun. At least that's what happened to me. Pity cause the title "My Spy Guy" sounded interesting enough. SomeTIMEs a simple rehashed classic melody works and someTIMEs it just doesn't. Sorry to say ,but My Spy Guy just lost it's cover.
6+/10

Is HRG participating in the "loudness war"? Most of their recent releases seem to be "brickwalled" so they are painfully loud/tinny, especially through headphones. One of the worst offenders is Pagyaru/Pagal, where the main riff is horribly clipped and scratchy-sounding.

All things nowaday is loudness war which is a shame.
Only the first volumes on SEB aren't (~01-30). After that, it went worse and worse. Also, the labels are for something too. It seems that the equalizer is something missing from their softwares...

It's not that he is being negative, It's actually true. Rock Pop almost all genres are guilty of this nowadays. Musixc has lost alot of it's real soundworld. Rock has become one destorted guitar after another. I admit I like the loudness the effect, but not at the expense of quality.

Listen to one TIME or even HRG Attack vinyl from the mid 90s, then one from the 2000s and you will surely hear the difference.

I Am A Liar actually sounds quite interesting - a little more than just your bog-standard Hi-NRG Attack drivel that we have been seeing a bit too much of on SEB recently. I really wish they would experiment with BPM's and sounds a bit more to be honest. Definitely looking forward to 203 even more having heard this sample :)

Also, on a general note - I've just been listening to ParaPara Cool vol.5 this morning, and it really has me yearning for that awesome trumpet hit synth that used to be in so many of their best tracks (on this album, I've talking about the synth used during the hooks of Work Like An Egyptian (in it's purest form) as well as the harsher sounds in Dance Around The World and I Am Mister Blaster). The vast majority of my favourite old-school Hi-NRG Attack tracks use that sound, and I really wish they would resurrect it for some newer tracks to give them some added POW!!

Wasn't beatport the site that wouldn't publish Akyr because it was not trendy enough? Ok, I found newfield's comment: http://forum.eurobeat-prime.com/viewtop ... 7873#17873
