SEB 174
Maybe not the album, but I was talking about Eurobeat in general.taQ wrote:just an fyi for people who think parapara influenced eurobeat much, it really doesnt. Paralists in Japan hardly buy SEB. Only SEB listeners who are also paralists buy them.
Has anyone else noticed the similarities in Give me a Sign/Nuage and Woah Woah Woah/Domino?
My opinion about Norma is never gonna change I guess. No matter how consistent she has been on her career, about 90% of her material sucks to my ears. I can't enjoy too many of her songs for more than 30 seconds as they just sound too similar to eachother and her whispery-voice just doesn't please me one bit.
The few times the 'Norma Sheffield' title has presented us with experiemental songs like Spring Time or Stay that are clearly apart from the majority of her productions I've loved her. But it's still sadly too rare to hear her sing anything even slightly faster.
EDIT:
Some of her old school songs are such that I hated at first but by time (and by time I mean a really long time, like 4 years) learned to enjoy slightly. But it's not really much of a credit for her.
The duet with Virginelle was a solid song though... but maybe not thanks to Norma...

I cannot agree with what you say about the fans of fast Eurobeat keeping the scene alive. Actually it was around 1994/1995 that THOUSANDS of Eurobeat fans left the scene (which meant a dramatic change in sales as well if I'm not mistaking) because the sound was losing its feelings. Many of the Eurobeat fans that made the scene big in the early 90s were ex-Italo Disco fans that had found a new musical style with the same old romantic melodies and melancholy. And always with a lot of power too, without being fast or aggressive! However, when things got too "Mickey Mouse/HRG" and too "3253465 BPM" a lot of people stopped buying. For A.Beat-C this was around ABEAT 1170.
Sometimes I feel really sad when I see a new SEB album. I miss the melancholy that Norma's songs used to carry, but also other artists definitely had. For me there are too many songs with titles like Cucaracha Bazooka Vodka WHATEVER and it has ruined a big part of the love I feel for this music. I'm glad the other labels still put out quality songs (HRG is quality music but not quality song-wise IMO) cos that's why I'm still buying the albums. It's not the same level as 10 years ago though - maybe they just need some fresh songwriters and stick to producing those songs.
Sorry for the drama but it's just something that comes up when I see people dismiss artists that for me have done a lot in the past. Same goes for Domino - no hits recently but a string of top songs all through the 90s!

Wierd, I've never heard any Norma songs being played at one. Guess I was wrongtaQ wrote:but paralists aren't the main portion of people listening to eurobeat, and yes, they do play Norma at parapara events...songs I can think of off the top of my head are Sweet Heaven, Your Love is a Lightening, Memories, Sweet Heart, For a Crazy Love.

Alright, i'll agree with that. The 90's was really the prime time for Eurobeat, and it's just gone downhill from there. I still buy it and enjoy some of the newer things, but yes I can see why a lot of Eurobeats fans would've left. I just said that fast/aggressive thing because everyone I know and people i've talked to had said that to them Eurobeat means fast, highly synth-based music and thats why they liked it. However, over a period of time they stopped listening because they told me almost every song sounded the same, and I can see why they say that.MarkIventi wrote:^ Thanks for clearing up your statement, just one sidenote though:

Aha! I see. So I'm not a strange guy when I like to listen to 'anicient' eurobeat! The paralysts are the strangers who like their Eurobeat on high caffeine... They think they're mainstream... I AM! *maniacal laughter*

Oh no! I hope these recent strings of conversation doesn't spark an "old school" vs "paralist" fight.
btw... what about those people who identify themselves as "use to parapara but doesn't now but still likes eurobeat - and likes a mix of most of everything including the fast 'parapara' tracks and the slow old stuff" ???

I concider a lot of the Eurobeat songs nowadaysYou gotta change with the TIMES!
I conci8der a lot of the Eurobeat songs now-a-days instant hits. Sure they are fast and Powerful, but also catchy and memorable.
The basic ingredients in the music now a days is still very evident. The only thing that sometimes get to me is the Silliness in Lyrics or titles, but also sometimes the speed is too much, To me the GOLDEN age of EUROBEAT was early 90's TIME, ABEATC, FLEA, ASIA,RadioRama, High Energy, Disco Energy and F.C.F. Those songs were instant hits!
This is one of the Main reasoms I went crazy for songs like Drive In The Night,Without You,Magic Rainbow, Time Of Love,Emotions, and Gotta Be Your Lover. This songs really took me back Back back in TIME
