"Monkey Dance" Para Para routine questions...

Post by FAII » 27 Mar 2007, 16:41

I uploaded it onto Youtube here.

My question is whether this is what it's supposed to be like. The kids are making some of the movements way too low. A lot of sweeping motions are done at chest level instead of face/head/above head level.

I have no other video of this routine to go by.

They are actually doing it pretty well, as far as I know. ;)

I love those kids since they're so adorable, but they aren't the greatest example of what is considered to be proper "para etiquette" which is very subjective since it's about one's taste and style.

In regards to the "sweeping" moves presently it is more normal to do such at the shoulder level instead of higher like how it was done in the past. It also depends on which move is supposed to be done which normally dictates what level your arm should be at. Simply sweeping your arm in front of you instead of controlling what level it is at and the speed at which it is moving can mean the difference between being viewed as "sloppy" or "proper".

Once again though, it is all a matter of opinion since many peoples tastes differ and people have different styles. It can not be argued though that in instructional videos "professional paralists" for lack of better words (such as the PPA, T-RREX, Team SEF, etc.) dance as clean and proper as possible while still maintaining their individual styles.

Hope that answered your question and did not mkae things more confusing :P . In regards to another video, the only other one I know of is from a velfarre club video. However it is filmed more as a performance and less as an instructional video.

Pretty much what Alex said is correct, but there is a better video of Monkey Dance (vs the kids anyways), on Gazen ParaPara! D-1 Matsuri. I still hate the dancers on that video, though...

There was a pretty good fan refilm a few years ago, but that group's site's been gone for ages.

*blink*

Saying that makes me feel old. ;_;

It's technically correct, but personally it's pretty sloppy, but, they ARE kids.

Sloppy in which ways, exactly? Could you specify exactly what they're doing wrong?

I'd say the arm swipes are too low. Their stances are a bit wide too, I guess. Other than that, it looks pretty technically accurate to me.

haha, I watched this whole DVD on a whim and loved it because the guy in the Spider-Man mask never stopped causing trouble.

Does anyone have Gazen ParaPara Matsuri, a rip of it or know someone who does? Could you cut out the Monkey Dance routine for me so that I'll know how to do it properly?

Why's the video flipped sideways?
But those kids are pretty damn good for their age.

It's not that they're not doing the right moves, more that they're not doing them very accurately ^^;

In any case I've uploaded the performance version I was talking about before (Sorry don't have D1 Matsuri). Sorry about the audio and visual quality. The low audio is due to the fact that I fucked it up the first time I ripped it (and have ripped it better since but haven't split the video up yet) and the less than stellar visual quality is due to the fact that it's from VHS :P

Hope this clarifies some of your concerns.

And the video is horizontally reversed so you can learn the dance without having to do so mentally (ask a person to raise their right arm in from of you and note that it looks like their left arm is raised).

Thanks for the video. It confirmed my suspicions of how the dance should be performed.

There's one indescriphency, though. At 0:50 (Velfarre) / 0:40 (Gazen), the two kids do something differently from the Velfarre people.

Which one's the correct way? I still need that Matsuri vid because of this :P.

Took me a while to realise one of the kids was a boy XD Since the video was mirrored I didn't see his name was Ryousuke

Still, awww they're soo cute :lol:
