Densetsu13 Getting His Film On

Post by Densetsu13 » 02 Jun 2011, 15:20

Hello everyone, it's been a while!

Last April I decided to do some filming for my two parasa's, Disco NRG and Royal Para. The videos are now all finally ready so I now present them to you. There are multiple viewing options as some people like to collect vids or even put them on their iPods. ;)

I'm someone that's always looking to improve and further develop my dancing style, ESPECIALLY when it comes to dancing the uncharted territory that is techpara. Please feel free to comment and leave constructive criticism whether it be here in this thread or in a private message directly to me. Thanks!

I am still at a mystery on who comes up with these routines for every Eurobeat song, and WHERE do you find the routine at? My Super Eurobeat 160 came with a DVD, but it's not American-DVD player compatible.

I suggest downloading VLC Player and watching the DVD on your PC :)

The routines are made by the dancers, either at the clubs in Japan or by various paralists and groups around the world. I believe they're not that hard to find these days if you know the right channels. Any suggestions Alex?

Like Francis said, to watch a DVD from any region just use VLC player. Apart from being one of the best video media players out there, it also allows you to watch DVDs from another region without locking your computer's PC drive in that region.

In regards to who choreographs these routines, in Japan there are 3 main club events that are associated with avex, SEF (Super Euro Flash, yes the Hi-NRG Attack track from Euromach is about the event), 9LoveJ and Star Fire. These 3 clubs are often referred to as 'The Big 3'. The organizers of these events get first listen to future SEBs and they usually have their dancers for their event choreograph a song to teach at the club the month before or same month that the next SEB comes out. That's why you can usually get an early listen to an unreleased Eurobeat track by checking out the lesson for the routine at the club.

While there ARE thousands of routines, not EVERY Eurobeat (or Hyper Techno track for that matter) has a routine. If you do the math, it's just not possible for the clubs to choreograph everything, hence why each club, on average, picks one song a month to choreograph. Usually the chosen songs are what become popular in the Japanese scene, therefore on the anniversary SEBs it is noticeable that the majority of the tracklist are songs with routines. I also personally believe that it is why a lot of really good tracks get under-appreciated; an official routine was never made for them thus they don't get put on nonstops as often.

Apart from official choreographies you also have what is called 'Maniac' choreography. This simply means that the choreography was not made by one of the clubs sanctioned by avex but instead by a smaller event or even by groups called a Para Circle (Parasa in Japanese).

As to where to find the routines, every few months The Big 3 release a DVD that has all the routines they did for the lst few months. These DVDs also usually include a few more choreographies that were nto taught in the club. The problem with these DVDs is that they are not sold commercially and are usually only given out the night it is released at the event itself as a 'gift'. Avex used to be big on releasing Para DVDs commercially but there's been a 2 year dry spell since they last did...

One can only hope that is about to change soon since DJ Boss (the owner and organizer of the para event SEF, also the head man of Y&Co.) is now the SEB Advisor working directly with SEB Director 7A (Nanae Furuta). Hopefully he has the influence to promote para para to avex and get them going with it again.

In the last year ever since avex stopped taking down anything Eurobeat related on Youtube the international para para community has started to thrive. People are re-ilming things all over the place and lessons from the club are now easily accessible. Here are some channels you should check out!

My non-avex channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/Densetsu13
My avex channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/Dnsetsu13
My Parasa Disco NRG's brand new channel (Maniac choreography specific): http://www.youtube.com/user/DiscoNRGManiacFiesta
A buddy of mine in Tokyo uploads lessons from the clubs: http://www.youtube.com/user/maxsubobs
Another channel with lessons and various club videos: http://www.youtube.com/user/Tsubasak3

And thus ends today's para para lesson of The more you know... 8)

Just wanted to point out that in a lot of older SEB decade albums, there are also many songs with maniac routines. For instance, I'm listening to SEB100 Disc 2 and I see Niki Niki / Tell Me Why (I Love U), Candy Taylor / Scandal and on Disc 1 I see Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, When The Love Is All Around, Juliet, Crazy Dancer, Never Can Be The Same, Don't You Forget About My Love, Days Of Thunder etc.

Also, maniac dances are intended for parapara enthusiasts only. They are almost never danced in the clubs except maybe at the beginning of the event when people are just starting to come in. Since Joy and AXOS ended in 2009, there hasn't been any new parapara maniac events, which may as well result in the death of the those routines/songs in the clubs as they are usually only played at those types of events. It is quite unfortunate. I did hear a recent report of SEF playing Get Me Power / Mega NRG Man, Love In New York City / Madison, TV Show / Margaret, Run 4 Fun / Dolly, and some other old song kind of recently too though so there's hope! However, these maniac videos are very rare and very few people have them even in Japan. There are a lot of refilms of maniac routines on YT though, but not compared to how many maniac routines actually exist. There are even some SEBs that have all maniac routines like all of the songs on SEB 147 have TMD routines.

Also don't forget that B-1 Dynamite now does Manaic too! I hope they're still doing it when I get back there.
