man, i wish the Eurobeat community could put a legit documentary together about the genre. Like cross-continent interviews and footage from studios in Italy, clubs in Japan, shit like that. Something that emcompassed the whole shebang: Italo Disco, DDR, Initial D, etc. The Eurobeat genre, although it has a long history, is pretty closed off, so it wouldn't be hard to actually document I think. It's just a matter of willpower, talent, and funds, all of which I unfortunately lack

That's cool, but yeah, looks like this focuses solely on Para Para. I'm talking about a full-length documentary that primarily focuses on the evolution of the genre itself and that ALSO touches on the genre's impact in other realms such as those I listed before. Ugh, I can only dream I guess

Any documentary would require a lot of money and Avex's permission to use songs, so it's not going to happen. Plus, no one would pay to see the documentary. Because of these reasons, a documentary is not likely.

Closest thing you'll get is the History of SEB video from SEB 150, from the same place that youtube clip came from. It should be on youtube as well but I can't search for it atm cause I'm at work

Also, there's bits and bits of the history of SEB if you can read Japanese that's in some SEB booklets.

Yeah I know it will never happen. I don't think the desire for profit would be an issue as many documentaries are done simply out of passion. It would be sick to see Vice/Noisey cover it but that won't happen either. It is a shame though considering how much of a niche genre Eurobeat is.

All right, then, I will make a Eurobeat documentary.

Who can say? Maybe it might bring that zing back that we've all been longing for - you know, back when TWIN STAR and VELFARRE were still open.

To be honest, I've always thought about such a thing, especially since it's kinda hard to _explain_ eurobeat to the average person on the street.

Who wants to help me? Dr. NRG needs to, of course. He has the vinyls.

Here's my plan: I'll contact the major Eurobeat studios and get them to talk on camera about what it was like in the trenches, making it happen, delivering these tracks to us day after day. It'll be a little like that special feature where we got to see Ennio and Christian chilling at the studio, driving their cars, and generally being badass. I know Federico is DEFFO going to want in. Dima might also want to come through. This part's a little fuzzy.

The second tier is contacting the people who were formerly involved in the eurobeat scene in Japan, since that's the country that really was the backbone of Eurobeat for quite a time. That is, if I can find them. Eurobeat has faded from relevancy so much in Japan that it...kinda depresses me. It's like being a football fan and waking up one day to find out that Japan pulled out of the World Cup 2014.

I was going to tell you that I would also like to discuss this with the documentary - but that's a whole other world! That's a big task, especially since ParaPara was incorporated to a bunch of other unrelated things, not JUST eurobeat - for a period, anyway.

Yeah it would be awesome to see every aspect of the genre covered, if even briefly. Initial D, DDR, ParaPara, Ponybeat (as much as it makes me cringe), the online community, etc. Nothing extremely in-depth, just snippets of info on how Eurobeat plays into each. I think the brunt of such a project should be devoted to the genre itself: how it developed, the producers, the singers, the labels, etc.
