To be honest, I don't think 80s rock is that far removed from eurobeat at all. I think the genre draws a lot of its expression and musical style from the loud, in-your-face, hook-driven hair metal songs that coincided with the origination of italo disco. I could easily imagine Jon Bon Jovi in place of Giancarlo Pasquini in any Dave Rodgers song, for example, or someone like Ennio Zanini or Hotblade fronting a Poison-style 80s hair band. Even the alias Fastway was originally used by a British 80s metal band before Zanini assumed it over a decade later.

That said, this doesn't mean the song posted truly sounds like eurobeat or italo disco; frankly, it sounds more like mid-late 80s synthpop than hair metal; but I can sort of see where the confusion comes from, since a lot of 80s music in general has the same anthemic effervescence that directly carried over into modern eurobeat. If it wasn't for the rise of grunge, new jack swing, and eurodance, I think music in general would've evolved into something a lot like what eurobeat is now.

right! and it woulda been better than what we have now have in the Top 40. However If you've heard of Indie Synth Pop; which is charting now days on Alternative Rock lists. Bands like Fitz & the Tantrums, MisterWives, Pasion Pit, Capital Cities ect...;then you will see where the 80s New wave and Synth Pop style still Lives.

I have trouble describing modern indie pop as a revival of anything 80s aside from the artsiest and most eccentric new wave/post-punk acts of that era, i.e. Depeche Mode, early Simple Minds, OMD. Those groups, with their wistful, melancholic cynicism, had a completely different attitude than the festive, carefree electro-dance and glam metal that dominated the mainstream scene in the 80s and which eventually translated into modern eurobeat in the 90s.

Oh, and no, I don't really think the song in this thread resembles synth pop groups like Depeche Mode; it's more of a hybrid of traditional 80s rock and dance/electronic, imo.

There are still some great artists out there, not mainstream though, producing these 80s style of music.

This group I found is making cool 80's synth pop music but with a modern touch to them in the vocal department, which sets them apart. It's the synths that are used which are 80's, but the vocals not so much.

The part after the 2nd chorus is the best

Her hair looks like she was inspired by Cyndi Lauper with the hair all to one side, just like from Cyndi's Time After Time. Even the opening soft synth melody sounds a bit like the opening to Cyndi Lauper's Time After Time.

But vocally, it sounds mainstream like something that say, Katy Perry would sing, but as I said before, the synths have an 80s sound to them! Nice fusion of the 2 elements, and could totally see this being a smash hit on the charts, and more acceptable to those people who generally only listen to mainstream music and do not like cheesy 80s vocals. This could be an exposure of some 80's elements to them.

Now if only it could catch on in the mainstream music industry...

That depends on what 80s year we talking about. I didn't specify any one year, but take for example 1985- 86 synth pop sounded way different than 81-82 New wave. Modern Indie Pop is more along the lines of mid to late 80s. More to the sound of Blow Monkeys, Simply Red and even some post 1986 pop style of Hall & Oates. Even some of the Core New Wave bands, like Human League and New Order, Erasure changed thier style to what modern Indie artists call thier inspiration.

One of the biggest crossover Alt to Pop songs right now; Walk The Moon - "Shut Up + Dance" is 95% 80s in it's style and video.
