When was the first time that appeared the "Eurobeat" term?

Do you mean the first time the genre title/name had been changed to Eurobeat from Italo-Disco?
From what I've seen, I'd say 1988 is when you first see the word "Eurobeat" associated with anything; however, it is possible it could have been there earlier as well.

I think it was much earlier, early 80'. Because when i was a teenage there was the dj on finnish radio who talking about italo-disco and eurobeat.

But i'm so old that i could remember wrong

Maybe was the compilations "That's Eurobeat" and "Super Eurobeat" the first time ?

newfield is born on october 8 in 1960.The first word from the baby was "boom boom bang bang para para".On 1965 xmas he got a tiny piano and a little guitar...I think eurobeat started from there...ha ha ha!!!!!

Because of the smash hit of "CAN'T TAKE MY EYES OFF YOU" by Boys Town Gang in 1982,
the British Music information magazine "Record mirror" started Boys Town chart. Afterwards, it was renamed to "High-energy chart", and the era of high-energy was built here.

But around 1985, the tone of high-nrg music was gradually changing into more pop and melodious one based on elegiac melody, what we call "Aishu-sound" in Japanese, for example "Unexpected Lovers" by Lime in 1985 and "Give Me Up" by Michael Fortunati in 1986 etc.

Record mirror magazine determined that it could not be called high-energy any longer, so the name of High-energy chart was renamed to "Eurobeat chart" in December, 1985. It might be the meaning of beat of Europe. The genre name of Eurobeat arose here, or at least it is said so in Japan.

Though it was returned to High-energy chart afterwards in 1987, "That's Eurobeat" series by ALFA RECORD had already been on sale with a great success and the term of Eurobeat was in widespread use at that time in Japan, therefor we didin't dare to return it to high-energy. It continues up to the present time.

So what we call eurobeat includes a broad range of European dance music like British high-nrg by PWL (you know, Kylie, Rick Astley, Bananarama, Mel & Kim, Sinitta etc.), german disco (Lady Lily, Modern Talking, Danuta, C. C. Catch...), italo disco, eurodisco. I'm afraid I don't fully understand the terminology regarding German, Italo thingies, though.

Very interesting post. In my opinion there's two High Energy music styles; the Italian and the English. As you know, exist an italian record label called High Energy, sub-label of Discomagic Productions, it's a classic Hi-NRG label.





For example: Fred Ventura - Imagine, Pleasure & Pain - Magic and Joy, Robert Camero - Love Games, Phil & Stan - I Need Your Love Tonight, Wilson Ferguson - Show Me, Philip - Dream On Me, Topo & Roby - Set On Fire - Mc Brian - Loving You Forever... etc... etc... if you listen to these productions, the sound and the melody are Italodisco (same producers) but too speed to be Italodisco so they are not pure Italo Disco, the speed (BPMs) are more close to Eurobeat but too slow to be Eurobeat so they are not pure Eurobeat; they are High Energy... (Italian)

According my theory, it must had a music style that connected between Italodisco and Eurobeat (it was the transition period), it was.... High Energy around 1988 to 1990 (Italian of course).

To me Eurobeat are exclusively Italian productions for the japanese market; the natural evolution of the old Italodisco sound, if we must to relate the BPMs to the terms (Italodisco, Hi-NRG, Eurobeat), I identify the Eurobeat era after Hi-NRG era, around 1990.

I hope you understand my point of view....

Sure, I well understand your point and I think it's obvious that our foregoers messed up the definition of Eurobeat mixing up various music genres owing to insufficient knowledge and informations on European dance music scene of those days.

Well, what I mentioned in my previous post is not just my personal opinion, but an general aspect about Eurobeat in Japan. Just take a look at the track list below to understand what we call Eurobeat.

Yeah, I've listend to most of these songs as they were included in "That's Eurobeat", "Eurobeat Fantasy" or "Best Disco" series, which were all released as Eurobeat compilation albums late '80s.

Anyways let's return to the subject. So the first time the term Eurobeat appeared was on December 1985, on Record Mirror magazine, they say.

Sometimes the labels mix musical generes in order to sell more copies, it's just marketing but this makes confuse to the buyers and for the purist collector it's bad
