Urban Euro Club

Post by beat freak » 12 Aug 2004, 02:23

Found this great old Mark Farina CD on E-bay recently, Urban Euro Club released 10/21/91 on BMG/Victor in Japan. What's cool about this is that the RCA label is on the CD so it seems like out Eurobeat artists got on a large label for once.

Here is the track listing:

1) Bambaata FS - Love Attack
Got to love this song. It's over 8 min long and full of oohs and aahs from the background singers. Hadn't heard this song before. It's got some batman samples but it's got that great late 80's Mark Farina sound. You will be singing the chorus within minutes. So different for Mark cause he didn't write the song himself. I don't know how Afrika Bambaata got associated with Mark Farina but I'm glad he did.

2) Alan Barclay - Always For Me
This is a wimpy little tune but it is catchy. I think it's Mark on vocals but it's hard to tell.

3) Sara - Time Goes On
I love this song. I hadn't heard this song before. Sounds like a classic Kylie Minogue track.

4) Sara - Love Is Like A Replay
One of my favorite songs, love the creepy sample in the beginning of the track. Lyrics are really weak but it's such a cute song. It's got a great deep poppy base line and vocal samples throughout the song.

5) Funky Sisters - Babe, We're Gonna Love Tonight
A crappy remake of a Lime track from the early 80's. This has that weak tinny sound that Mark Farina had. Don't know why he abandoned his great pop sound for this.

6) MCDC - Shake It Up
This is a house record from his Meal Power/New Meal Power label. Kinda cool to hear the contrast to Eurobeat.

7) Culture Trax - ADAMO
A pretty little dance instrumental, best described as tribal house I guess.

8) Blue Jam - Ride Like The Wind
A cool cover of Christopher Cross

9) MXM - I Can't Tell You Why
A cool jazzy relaxed cover of the Eagles (?) or some other 70's band, they always play this on easy listening radio.

10) Mark Tower - My Desire
Back to Eurobeat again. This is a terrible Eurobeat song, back to that tinny sound that sucked.

11) Red Fox - Call The Deejay
ALRIGHT!! Mark Farina vs. Black Box. Super Italo-house record, written by Farina/Crivillente/Acatino. I can't understand a word she is saying, luckily lyrics are included

12) Mike Hazzard - I'm In Love
Sounds like Silver Pozzoli on vocals. Crappy song again.

All and all I love this CD. Cool find for me.

Mmm I honestly can say that most of what Mark Farina did/has done have somehow slipped past my ears. I for some reason never dug into his productions that big time, so to no surprise I hadn't even heard about this album before, would be interesting to hear though. Warming up slowly for Mark even though he isn't any of my favorites.
