Night Of Fire origins
Night Of Fire origins
Right, everybody knows this song. There's a gazillion versions of it. And for some reason I have most of them, even the elusive punk version.
But the song's origins are still bit of a mystery, at least to me. Mostly I'm baffled by Eurobeat-Prime's page on Niko which claims that "Niko became immediately popular as he covered the Dream classic song 'Night Of Fire'". Which is odd, because the earliest Niko's Night Of Fire I could find was in SEB 82 back in 1997 while dream's version came out in 2000, same year the band was formed.
So, yeah. Is Niko the creator and original peformer of the song? I even heard rumours that there's some very old instrumental song that was the basis for Night Of Fire, but that's hardly from a totally reliable source.

It's always been a mystery to me as to why it became so popular. It's an average sounding Eurobeat song wiuth typical sounding synths and the usual "oh oh ohs". Don't get me wrong, because I love typical or as I say "Traditional" sounding NRG. I love the fact that I can hear the song or 12' whenever I choose to....and as far as Niko songs go, it is and always will be his best. even though I really do fansy "Superbad" just as well.
but why so popular? Another song(From my fav label) is "Forever Young" a good song, but lighjt years away from being TIMES best work.
Never underestimate the power of AVEX

I'm afraid the Forever Young IS the best song Time has ever done - no doubt about that!
Night Of Fire was great when I first found it (on Dancing Stage Disney Mix), but after really getting into the Eurobeat community and discovering that it crops up more times than I care to mention, I really don't have much time for it any more. In small doses perhaps - but very, very small doses!

Niko was definately first with Night of Fire. The members of Dream were still in their, so to speak, diapers when he recorded that song.

-Africa - Dave Hammond
-Soft Time - Sophie (what a wonderful song is that!)
-Blade Runner - Mike Hammer
-Communication - Lou Grant (this should have been an Initial D song!)
and many more...
I can't agree with you on that point... Time has made some great songs, but the last years haven't been that well...:the_ditz wrote:I'm afraid the Forever Young IS the best song Time has ever done - no doubt about that!

Don't be afraid. ;)the_ditz wrote:I'm afraid the Forever Young IS the best song Time has ever done - no doubt about that!
A possibility of Night Of Fire's boost might be Initial D... Even though there were lots of other really good songs (better than NoF at least) in the series. ;X
I guess we should just blame Avex. *grr*

Yeah, that was my first reaction when I learned of it, too. A British punk band called Snuff covered the song (fun twist: they covered dream's version. So a cover of a cover) along with some other japanese stuff in their "Innafayce" album. Guess they toured Japan and released the album as sort of a tribute or something.Densetsu13 wrote:O.oGhegs wrote:There's a gazillion versions of it. Anyhoo, you can buy the whole album as MP3s through the band's shop for £4.99 or something like that. That's what I ended up doing, the curiosity was killing me. It's a pretty cool version, actually. Sounds like something a japanese thrash metal band in the 80's might've created.
