I'm sorry to disappoint you. While the Pamsy song is trance-flavored eurobeat, the Renoir song is just plain trance (euro/progressive/anthem), with no eurobeat influences (other than being produced by Delta, a eurobeat label).drnrg wrote:the new year hollidays and what not will probobly delay my copy untill mid week, but I'll defienately post my review and praise all my usual favs and shootdown my usual not so favs. Maybe this year I'll start to like Transe Flavoured Eurobeat?
A BIG FAT NOT!
Super Eurobeat 183
From the samples (I'm a cheapskate):
LOVEBITE: Actually, pretty darned good, and not just from an "It's Eurobeat" level. This is actually the sort of musical hook I truly appreciate.
CRAZY RACE ON THE STREET: Glargh. I'm NOT a fan of Garcon's voice. Sounds reminescent of Danger in Chinatown... synth line is unusually subdued for HRG... in fact, a LOT of their recent synth lines have been less frantic than usual. Is Rimonti coming down from his 20-year-long caffeine high?
GOODNIGHT KISS: Sounds a bit classic-ish, like earlier ABeatC. That's a good thing, although I'm not always a fan of Lolita.
NIGHT FIGHTER: YEAH. Something's just COOL about this song. Very aggressive and... I just LIKE it. I guess it's Time, but... who cares! It's just plain masculine and... wow. I'm surprised.
I FEEL EMOTIONS: Sounds almost more pop-ish than trance-ish if you ask me. This could actually sell in America (rather well) if marketed right.
BECAUSE I NEED YOU: NOT EUROBEAT.
WHY DO I LIKE IT?
IT'S NOT EUROBEAT.
BUT I LIKE IT.
MY HEAD HURTS. DAMMIT.
MOVING ON.
ON FIRE 2007: Huh. Doesn't impress me in particular. Time remakes don't shake me the same way I suppose they should.
I'LL BE WAITING: I don't like it. Something lacks PUNCH. Norma sounds unusually hooty. Sorry, no dice.
YOU KISS MY LOVER: Disco-ish? Something seems to have an odd flavor, but... is it good? Bad? Can't seem to form an opinion on it.
SAVE YOUR VOICE TO SING A SONG: How old is Brian at this point? Actually... it's... kind'a nice. Not GREAT, but... not particularly bad at any point. Synth line is good.
BAD BOYS: Again, something lacks punch. Not as epic as the best Matt Land songs usually. Synth line is nice, but... something is still lacking.
SPANISH AFFAIRS: Time? The attempts at flavoring didn't quite work. Synth line sounds promising.
KISS ME: Dang. The Go Go's are obsessed with the liplocks, ne? This one's only slightly superior to Lolita's... but only by a fingerprint.
BIG IN JAPAN 2007: This could'a been SO much better... I can hear it. I never heard the original, but I hear more potential than was used. No dice.
TELL ME: Dave and Nuage... Interesting vocal trick they do, singing almost exactly the same volume and notes... and synth line seems to fit. Actually, it works.
SEXY CRAZY GIRL: Huh. This song harkens further to Eurobeat's roots somehow. I... like it a little bit.
BURN INTO THE BEAT: ...I miss Eurobeat Masters. Can't guess much from the sample.
TIME FOR A MIRACLE: Ehhh? Is this a Power Metal vocalist? From Rhapsody??? Synth line's pretty cool. :3
Dunno which ones to buy yet... I think I'll DL Night Fighter so far.

It's no problem - I'm a big sucker for the 200x remixes. :3 I#Infinity wrote: I'll probably disagree quite a bit with Nine though, since I loved 182 and predict Big In Japan 2007 to be in my bottom 3 after I've heard the entire CD.

Full review time! (with over 50% new material!)
Dusty / The Lovebite - Pretty good, typical Dusty-style, which isn't really my style, but enjoyable enough.
Garcon / Crazy Race on the Street - Really nice opening, great arrangement. the vocals really don't fit though, the main vocal is too goofy for the arrangement, and the pitched female vocals just make it worse. The chorus doesn't really stand out from the song.
Lolita / Goodnight Kiss - Standard Lolita, one way of putting it would be "Yay finally more Lolita like this," another would be, "But it's not much better than her previous stuff," but the former kinda wins out for me.
Jacky O / Night Fighter - Very aggressive, different from Freedom, the only other Jacky O I can recall. The rest of the sounds are standard TIME. A nice song, but not one of my favourites.
Pamsy / I Feel Emotions - Mostly poppy, with the trance elements thrown in the synth line, and a bit of the arrangement. A bit of a slower and calmer feel than her other stuff.
Renoir / Because I Need U - Not eurobeat. A halfway decent attempt at Cascada, but not eurobeat. Does not belong.
Susy Time / On Fire 2007 - Not familiar with the original, so keep that in mind. Nice vocals, really like the arrangement, sounds different. Quite like it.
Norma Sheffield / I'll Be Waiting - Typical Norma, but I like typical Norma.
Louise / You Kiss My Lover - I could really learn to like this style of HRG. Only faint hints of the beloved orchestra hits. Real vocals, real harmonies. If you told me this was HRG I wouldn't believe you. Very nice work by them.
Brian Ice / Save Your Voice to Sing a Song - My favourite of everything I heard, kinda weird how he sounds like Nick Mansell here, I think. Love the chorus.
Matt Land / Bad Boys - Reminds me of Dave Rodgers / Not Gonna Get Us in that is sounds *really* unfinished, like they took an early arrangement and just stopped at that. Just sounds so empty.
Helena / Spanish Affairs - It's good for an Elena Ferreti song, but, I still just can't bring myself to like it much. It's much the same she's done before, it sounds nice, but noting special or catchy about it.
Annalise / Kiss Me - Nice synth melody, but, where's the rest of the song behind it? Nice vocals, though. The rest of the song sounds better, wish the arrangement was a bit fuller. I know the obvious answer behind this, but it's like "Lolita" got split this album, the arrangement went to Goodnight Kiss, and the melody went to Kiss Me.
Mr. M / Big in Japan 2007 - I prefer the original. This one just sounds kinda boring, like they went through the motions. Not liking the vocals, no emotion.
Dave & Nuage / Tell Me - I kind of liked it, until it reached about the 3:30 point of so (or the extended). The chorus is nice until they keep wringing it out, and the key change is nice, except why didn't they stop there? Doesn't work as an extended as they arranged it.
Jimmy Diamond / Sexy Crazy Girl - Nice arrangement, but the vocals are too subdued, too far in the background. It ends up sounding kind of mushy. Still like the arrangement, just wish the vocals were stronger.
Nick Mansell / Burn Into the Beat - Great vocals, great arrangement, definately a keeper.
Paul Dickenson / Time For a Miracle - Aside from the creepy out-of-place opening, it gets a lot better. Really liking the guitars. The chorus is really nice as well. The vocals sound really familiar.
Top Three
Brian Ice - Save Your Voice to Sing a Song
Nick Mansell - Burn Into the Beat
Paul Dickenson - Time For a Miracle
Bottom Three
Helena - Spanish Affairs
Mr. M - Big in Japan
Matt Land - Bad Boys
Overall Opinion: Probably won't go down as one of my favourite albums, but a mostly decent effort all around. All labels had their good and bad, and aside from a certain non-eurobeat song which although being nice enough isn't eurobeat, there wasn't anything really *terrible*, but at the same time, for me there was no real *killer* song.

I don't want to write a full review this time around
1. The Lovebite by Dusty (SCP)
Cool intro, cool vocals, strange riff (saxophones? what the hell), cool song in general.
8/10
2. Crazy Race On The Street by Garçon (Hi-NRG Attack)
Pretty good intro, good riff, and like usual, I hate the vocals from Garçon. So, I don't really like the song.
6/10
3. Goodnight Kiss by Lolita (Go Go's Music)
It looks like a kiddie intro on there but the riff save it and Lolita's vocals crash everything...
4/10
4. Night Fighter by Jacky'O (?)
The intro sounds like some kind of jazz vocals and style... too bad that the riff's synths are not keyboards coz it would have been a pretty good song.
7/10
5. I Feel Emotions by Pamsy (SCP)
I was waiting for this song so much... so, the usual trance intro is there with saxophones... SCP has gone Jazz or what anyway the riff has super melodious and Pamsy's vocals are just sweet like I love them... Really good song!
9/10
6. Because I Need You by Renoir
This is not Eurobeat, so, Eurobeat aside, this song is pretty ok for vocal light trance.
7½/10
7. On Fire 2007 by Susy Time (Time)
I don't know the original so, I won't compare. The intro is pretty OK and the beat is really strong from the beginning and the riff is just awesome. A hit!!!!
10/10
8. I'll Be Waiting by Norma Shieffield. (A-Beat-C)
I don't even care about this song but I wanna give a little word anyway... The intro is too soft and the riff *put bad word here*. Those alone, it's a lost.
0/10
9. You Kiss My Lover by Louise
The entry of the song is bad but beside that the intro is short and enters a bad riff. The vocals are... hum... can't find words. Not a good song... but it does not worth a 0 because of the chorus.
5/10
10. Save Your Voice To Sing A Song by Brian Ice.
Soft intro that I love to sleep on... that all of a sudden BANG! The riff! Which is not bad. The vocals are OK but the song does not exceed the so-so rating.
6½/10
11. Bad Boys Matt Land (A-Beat-C)
Very "techno" intro with a soft feel... OK... then the beat takes and the riff is there! Which is nice... This time, Matt Land fails horribly... the vocals are too much over the music at my taste and the melody is so-so.
7/10
12. Spanish Affairs Helena (A-Beat-C)
...I don't have the guts to say anything here.
0/10
13. Kiss Me by Annalise (A-Beat-C)
...here too... huh wait... the riff got a point
1/10
14. Big In Japan 2007 by Mr. M (Time)
This song is made of win!
10/10
15. Tell Me by Dave & Nuage (A-Beat-C)
I'll shut up here because I'll bash...
0/10
16. Sexy Crazy Girl by Jimmy Diamond
I love the intro, so catchy! the riff is OK and the vocals are good and like I like : the music is louder than the vocals!
9/10
17. Burn Into The Beat by Nick Mansell (SCP)
Ah ah!! The intro is explosive! Love that guitar! SCP is always the best for Hi-NRG stuff
10/10
18. Time For A Miracle by Paul Dickenson
X-File mixed Right Now by Dark Angel kind of intro... then... big catchy beat! The riff is pretty good and the melody kicks ass with the guitar!
10/10
Overall : 5/10
Best :
TIME FOR A MIRACLE / PAUL DICKENSON
BURN INTO THE BEAT / NICK MANSELL
BIG IN JAPAN 2007 / MR.M

Bore can you delete one of my review...? This is kinda unecessary
You grow to like A-Beat C's tranquilizing introductions after a while. At first, everybody was befuddled as to why their intros were so soft and lacking power when the rest of the song offered a lot of punch... I believe it started with "Today" by Digital Planet on 174.
Those intros work wonders in songs by Kelly T and Nuage, but in the case of "Catch My Fire" or "Gunfire" for example, it just sounds really out of place and weird.
Anyway, I didn't find this CD too memorable. I wasn't impressed by HRG nor A-Beat C (except Brian Ice's song; that was nice). I'm REALLY getting bored of Annerley Gordon though. I know I've been a bit harsh on her in my reviews, but other than "Speedy Runner" (the one track this decade where she actually sounds fine), everything else has been mediocre at best. Four tracks already this decade and I'm 90% sure she has another two coming up on 184 doesn't help the overdose...
The problem I found with "Kiss Me" production-wise is that it was an awful cut-and-paste job. The transition between the B-Melo and the sabi doesn't flow at all and it irks me every time I hear the track stop for half a second at that point. Scratchy vocalwork aside, I thought it was the worst track on the disc.
SCP/TIME/Delta were great as usual. My favorites from this CD were "The Lovebite" and "Night Fighter". I'll give an honorable mention to "Spanish Affairs" as it's a really beautiful track.

"Burn Into The Beat" by Nick Mansell is great!! I expected more from "Goodnight Kiss", but it's pretty cute.
But "Red Light And Sex (B4 Za Beat Remix)" is horrible - my little heart can't take it. And if I hear "SHOCK!" one more time I may bash my head into something. This is from me, of all people, too. They killed it. In other news... "Blood On Fire (Y & Co. Remix)" was not taken to the slaughter, and sounds good ... minus the 'put your hands up in the air' bit.
