I agree with everything about your review Nine; the only song I feel let the CD down was the Rick Castle one too. The melody is just too bland, a problem with a lot of the recent HRG tracks. Most of the 170s HRG tracks had a nice, memorable melody but this one is very forgettable. Annalise was ok; better than I was expecting, but nothing outstanding.

Nevertheless, a great CD though.

I always loved the subtle blend between hyper techno and Eurobeat. Secret Destination is a true winner!
(I hope GGM pull something off like this again in future tracks. Maybe for a Thomas Marin track :!: ?)

I gave in and bought the 187 tracks from mu-mo today! A brief rundown...

01 DELTA QUEENS - HELLO HELLO! [9/10]
I love the retro feel of this track. The awesome guitar riffs throughout really add a different dimension of the track.

02 ANNALISE - A LITTLE DESIRE [6.5/10]
There are some nice melodies going on during the intro, but overall I just thought the structure was messy, and the bass lacked true presence. Nowhere near With Your Photograph or Say Yeah.

03 MEGAN - MOVE ON NOW BABY [8/10]
I hear some Eurodance influences in the synths during the intro, but the vocal presentation was a bit ugly. Overall, I thought this song had an awesome chorus, and the rest of it tried a bit unsuccessfully to live up to it. 10/10 for the chorus, 7/10 for the rest...

04 RICK CASTLE - BABY DON'T LEAVE ME [8/10]
Contrary to the other people to have commented on this, I actually think this has a fresh sound to the melody. The synths sound lively, and Rick always sounds a bit more "human" than the other male HRG aliases! I enjoy this one...

05 MAKERRONI - CAN CAN WORLD [9.5/10]
Woooo, this one really gets me in the mood for a summer party! It reminds me soooo much of Kick The Can from DDR 5th Mix - perhaps that's why I enjoy it sooo much! The intro is fun and funky, the vocals are nonsense and remind me of Toybox. I can see why most people don't like this, but for me it's awesome!

06 MARI-SAN - SECRET DESTINATION [7/10]
Nope - I still don't fully get this one. After reading the reviews I thought the full version would be amazing, but to me it still sounds like a confusing hyper-techno mish-mash, and the vocalist irritates me during the chorus with her SECRET DESTINATIONIEJOIENONIONIAJOJKDJLAJKDNLIANFLNEENAFKNNLIIOOOOONNNN. Might grow on me...

07 DE LEO - I NEED YOUR LOVE 2008 [7/10]
Now, I adore the original version of this track, and so this remake has a lot to live up to. At least it tries to do different things, but a major attraction of the original was the synth hook - the new one doesn't sound as focused. The vocals are also too harsh and raspy - not the best remake.

08 MATT LAND - MAGICAL [7.5/10]
Cute intro melody. Not sure of the beat breakdown when it comes in though - sounds very amateur. The synth hook is all kinds of awesome though, and this is miles better than anything Matt has done recently. Still waiting for a Night Flight To Tokyo part II though...

09 COO COO - VAMOS A BAILAR [7/10]
Gengis Khan!! Sorry, I can't resist chanting that during the intro beats. This track is good - quite catchy and with a good synth and beat make-up. Sadly, I just don't enjoy Coo Coo's vocals and the melody is too similar to so many other tracks.

10 PAMSY - LOVE IS A PRETENDER [10/10]
Thank you SCP!! Thank you so much for staying true to Pamsy's unique style and giving us another awesome track in the style of So Fragile - I've been waiting for this for a while!! Pamsy sounds awesome throughout and the synth bursts in the chorus were a great touch. Just a superb track - best on the album for me by a mile!!

11 DANY - RUN AWAY [8/10]
I haven't really listened to this one much (I always get to Pamsy then hit repeat!! :x ), but it sounds pretty good listening to it now - some interesting structures going on during the intro. A definite case for keeping Time/Dall'ora as part of SEB.

12 GO 2 - SPITFIRE [7.5/10]
Ah Go2. You've given us a few defining moments in Eurobeat history, but can this track live up to them? I still stand by my original comment that the best part of this is the synth hook (that really made me think of the best SCP hooks from the 160's/70's). The rapping during the verse and shouts were just a bit embarrassing - I don't know, this just doesn't have the instant catchiness of Looka Bomba or Super Striker.

13 DAVE RODGERS - SUN CITY 2008 [5/10]
Well, this is a waste of the last track! Another washed-up Rodgers remake. The intro is just nothing - lots of guitar chugs and no substance - the hook is pretty dull too. Dave is sounding quite tired to me in the verse, and that reflects the tired production and song choice. Come back when you come up with some new ideas please...

Best 3:
PAMSY - LOVE IS A PRETENDER
MAKKERONI - CAN CAN WORLD
DELTA QUEENS - HELLO HELLO!

Honourable mention:
DANY - RUN AWAY

Worst 3:
DAVE RODGERS - SUN CITY 2008
ANNALISE - A LITTLE DESIRE
MARI-SAN - SECRET DESTINATION

The high points make up for the low points - although 184 was still overall a better album.

Christ the more I hear Magical, the more I love it. Initially it was good, then I started feeling it's great. Now I'm considering it to be nearly one of his best performances to date, the song takes some time to get into but by time it just gets to become something phenomenal.

The chorus and the chimes create an irresistible duo, totally awesome. The only thing I still could've been better is the intro. But I think I really gotta redo the review since the track really deserves a lot better grade.

That would be a first. Do I detect some special treatment for Matt?

I've actually seen him change a few grades for his 182 review as well - Fight All Night by Powerful T. was lowered from a 7½ to a 7, Paraboy by Leslie Parrish went from a 9 down to a 9-, and I Bet For Lovin' went up from a 7½ to an 8-. The comments, however, remained the same.

I guess bumping it from 9 1/2 to solid 10 wouldn't be that much of a difference. :P

You're late, the grade notched from 8 to 9½ ;P. And yes there have been a few situations where grades have indeed changed. BUT for the most parts I do remember changing the review as well, but when there's a minimal change in the actual grade (per say 7 / 7+) it might not be necessary.

Just wanna disagree with Secret Destination. Cause it's not eurobeat at all. Hmm, it is ABSOLUTELY NOT EUROBEAT. I'm listening to eurobeat genre because of it's original sound, but when I find simple club track on a eurobeat album it makes me scared. :?

Great stuff:

Annalise: great melody!
Rick Castle: Compliments to HRG! Keep it coming!
Pamsy: pretty melody!
Megan: Bratt's girl tunes are splendid!

Rest:

maybe a refund.

My impressions:
Dany's track is pure awesomeness! The greatest TIME production up to date and one of the best songs in whole 180's.
The second favourite is Megan's song. Mr. Leonardi continues sending me back to early 100's SEB times for the second time in this decade. Reminds me of great old awesome rocking Delta production. Lacking of Newfield and Moroni feeling in the song is noticable, but even alone he does VERY WELL.
The third is Rick Castle, really like everything in the song, from vocals to riffs, Accatino & Rimonti are really on their top nowadays.

I didn't like other songs at all. Liked Dave Rodgers remake of classic song, and SCP songs are good. Others are not my cup of tea today. Delta disappoints, after magnificent Jungle Fever, Super Rider and Damn Damn My Heart I expected a boom of crazy fast paced songs but... ok will wait for 188 and see.

Not Eurobeat? Just because a song has hyper techno synths in the intro and a hyper techno structure for part of the drums doesn't make it not Eurobeat. yes it blurs the line but the song as a whole is Eurobeat. If you want to get really technical, all Eurobeat thats out now isn't Eurobeat. In fact the genre as a whole should be called Super Eurobeat as Eurobeat as it was resembles Italo Disco more than what we have now.
You can hate me but you know you have quality issues =p

That's what I'm talking about, this music doesn't have a feeling of Italo Disco inspired music. If this continues, guess I will lose my all time favourite type of music and the only thing I could do will be the repitition of good-old tracks... This really makes me sad...

Mini 187 Review:

1) HELLO HELLO/ DELTA QUEENS (10+)
Just as good as DAMN DAMN MY HEART
Better than SATISTFACTION or BLUE

2) A LITTLE DESIRE/ ANNALISE (8)
Not as good as SAY YEAH
Just as good as WITH YOUR PHOTOGRAPH

3) MOVE ON NOW BABY/ MEGAN (7)
Can't beat CRAZY/ ROBBIE GRAIN
Just as good as ALL THE LOVE OF MY HEART/ ROBBIE GRAIN

4) BABY DON'T LEAVE ME/ RICK CASTLE (7)
Not as good as YOU'LL NEVER BE LONLEY

5) CAN CAN WORLD/ MAKKERONI (10+)
Delta's answer to the GO GO GIRLS or KIKI & CO.

6) SECRET DESTINATION/ MARI-SAN (10+)
While not exactly our usual Eurobeat sound, I really do
enjoy the Hyper Techno feel to this song. Wouldn't be
surprised if there was a remix of this song eventually on
WLTP VII or WLTP Mission Style III.

7) I NEED YOUR LOVE/ DE LEO (7)
Not as good as DON'T YOU BREAK MY HEART TONIGHT
Right there with FUNKY LADY 2008

8) MAGICAL/ MATT LAND (9)
Much better than BAD BOYS
Reminds me his outings on EUROBEAT DISNEY

9) VAMOS A BAILAR/ COO COO (6)
Reminds me of AGE AGE ALL THE TIME
Not a big fan of the warped male vocals from SAIFAM

10) LOVE IS A PRETENDER/ PAMSY (10)
Back to her best from the 140s & 150s era!
Up there with HELLO & LIVIN' IN THE NIGHT

11) RUN AWAY/ DANY (10)
TIME'S best female vocalist for sure.
Up there with PLANET LOVE & LOVE IS LIKE A FEVER

12) SPITFIRE/ GO 2 (6)
Lowest grade IMHO for a GO2...very rehashed.
Let's show our testosterone by rapping and screaming.

13) SUN CITY 2008/ DAVE RODGERS (5)
Not much to say here because I haven't enjoyed a single
Dave Rodgers song since MAKE A MOVEMENT

Wow, after having listened to this whole album, I gotta say I was surprised. Even with only 13 tracks, the labels seem to be a lot more experimental this time around, and in general, everything works fantastically. Less is more in this case, as it really seems to me that there was far more to offer here than there was on the mediocre 186. The level of this album is excellent, and there's really not a single track I don't like (though I'm very weirded out after having listened to Spitfire, so I'll need a few more listens to properly annalyze it). It beats 182!

Hello Hello! by the Delta Queens is freaking AMAZING. If there's a song pitting any competition against Gas Gas Gas for this decade's best track, Hello Hello! is a sure candidate.

Review coming soon.
