Review Of Super Eurobeat Volume 154

Post by Jion » 22 Jan 2005, 17:53

A new Super Eurobeat Volume… New songs to listen to… The second album of 2005… LET’S GO!

Track 1 - O-Zone - Dragostea Din Tei (Eurobeat Remix)

While listening to this song, it really reminded me of a lot of other Time songs produced in the past, which is a good thing or bad thing depending on who you talk to. Unlike most remixes, this is definitely Eurobeat without question. The song is nice to listen to but I really wish that Time would use a different key setting since Time is suffering a little bit from what HI-NRG Attack is; similar sounding songs because of the keyboard setting. Not that bad of a song and it really makes me laugh quite a bit! As good as this is, the original trance version is much better.

Track 2 - Manuel - All The Best

Manuel really surprised me here. The style here follows a slower Matt Land. The singing is solid, the sound is smooth, but Manuel fans expecting a fast song will be solidly disappointed. As a whole this song is so solid and well put together and quite nice but it lacks that extreme visceral impact that makes it absolutely perfect. But as it is it is extremely close.

10 out of 10 <P>

Track 3 - Queen 26 - Going Crazy

Welcome to disco! I really liked this song a lot and it's even better that it's Delta because they used to be one of my favorite labels until last year. To those that say it isn't Eurobeat, you have to focus on the fact that disco and Eurobeat aren't that far apart and are one in the same. Eurobeat is pretty much fast disco, nothing more. Awesome song that really blew me away; the singing is amazing the great mood is awesome and the disco sound is just great! Go Delta!

10 out of 10 <P>

Track 4 - Powerful T. - Original Sin

YES! This is Powerful T. showing why he was my favorite singer! The singing, as always from Powerful T is top notch. The lyrics are amazing especially in the sabi. In a totally weird move, this is the first Powerful T. song that has absolutely no guitars that are apparent in the main body of the song. If you weren’t even focusing, you’d say this song had no guitars at all! The only time you can hear is during the Introduction and the intro right before the A-Melo. Quite a change but well worth it to get a song like this!

10 out of 10 <P>

Track 5 - Captain America - Space Fighter

Vibration strikes again! And once again it’s Corriani which shocked the heck out of me since usually Marcantonio has titles like this. If you listen to the introduction, you'll hear a negative ad of President Bush taken from newscasts, just a minor detail but hilarious nonetheless. This song takes that “Europanic!” feel, mixes it with the new style of Vibration Eurobeat style in SEB. I'm a huge fan of any Vibration work that comes my way so naturally...

10 out of 10 <P>

Track 6 - Delta Queens – Blue

I absolutely love the introduction but then after that, the song feels and sounds like a lot of Delta songs that have been released last year. It’s a well put together song but it really isn’t that memorable to me. Nothing really bad to say as its much better than the previous Delta Queens song but it doesn’t stand out.

7 out of 10

Track 7 - Van T.K. - Never Gimme Up

I was anticipating this song big time. I loved Just Can’t Get Enough so my expectations were high for this song. The singing is absolutely phenomenal. Van T.K.’s voice must be listened to with such awe simply because it’s so soothing. They did some synthesizing with his voice to make it sound a little robotic but it isn’t out of hand or to the level of Brian Ice’s song on 142. This song is more low key than Just Can’t Get Enough and it’s still very cool. Van T.K. is firmly the disco leader of SCP and keeps innovating his style!

10 out of 10 <P>

Track 8 - Go Go Girls - I Wanna Be Fat

What can I say really… this song is… HILLARIOUS!!!! There’s a reason why Nine called this the greatest song ever and it’s simply because it never takes itself seriously. It talks about how it they indulge themselves in food then have sex. Wow… I have nothing much more to say XD…

10 out of 10 <P>

Track 9 - Franz Tornado - One Night With Bazooka Belly Dancers

Originally on Baby Bazooka’s album, I wished the would have put Baby Bazooka in the title in some way… Oh well. The song is one of the best songs of 2004 and the version they put here suffers a little bit from two things. One, a lot of people have already heard the song and two, this mix seems to jump itself. It’s not as fluid as it should be (this after the second verse). Basically my grips is the technical work with New Generation (the ones that made the mix for Avex) and not with the song. The song also seems fuzzy when played on this CD. As for the song itself, its honestly one of the best songs released by HI-NRG Attack, but you should really get Baby Bazooka’s CD to hear this song.

Song: 10 out of 10 <P>
Mix: 7 out of 10

Track 10 - Karen - She's The One

Perhaps the best singer in all of Eurobeat, her voice is unmatched. Only Powerful T. can even reach her which makes me wonder why the two of them haven’t done a duet. The singing, of course, is phenomenal, the song just sounds so right and so strong, the lyrics are outstanding. Karen is just so amazing!

10 out of 10 <P>

Track 11 - Nando – Toyboy

Mako’s (who knows his real name just curious?) new song is long overdue. Mako is one of my favorite singers from Delta and I’m so glad they brought him back here. Basically if you’ve heard a Mako song before, you get all of that energy and a little more here!

10 out of 10

Track 12 - Za-Za - Wanna Be With You

Again, this song suffers from the “have heard it before” syndrome. It’s a lot like Delta songs and it really doesn’t stand out to me. But it isn’t horrible, which saves it from mediocrity. Nothing much to say about it other than it’s not bad.

7 out of 10

Track 13 - Symbol - Lonely Boy

It’s almost like I’m repeating myself… The “have heard it before” syndrome strikes again. I can almost picture him saying Queen Of My Ecstasy. It almost follows that song from 144 to a T. I don’t like what I’m seeing…

7 out of 10

Track 14 - Leslie Parrish - No Matter What

Clara Moroni’s strike on this album; while not as great as Lonely Night or Don’t Tell Me Stories, the music itself is nice. Clara’s voice isn’t really showcased here which disappoints me a bit. The guitar solo is worth mentioning since it gives is a pop/soft rock feel which is pretty cool. Impressive, but not extraordinary.

8 out of 10 <S>

Track 15 - Nuage - Still Love

Previously released on @Music and Sunday, Nuage’s album, it makes no sense why they are releasing this song for the third time. This is perhaps Nuage’s most disappointing song since it really doesn’t showcase anything new or amazing. Nuage’s singing isn’t all that impressive here either. I’m so used to giving Nuage 10’s and 9’s so it’s pretty hard to imagine giving it anything lower than that. But I have to give it the score I think it deserves.

8 out of 10 <S>

Track 16 - Ace - My Valentine

It’s been a while since Ace has had a solo song; in fact it’s almost been a year since his last solo song on 145. Interestingly, this song follows a similar style to that of a song released a year ago known as Moon Child. It’s soft and comforting. The singing is nice but I really wanted Power Of Sound to have been on this CD. Perhaps 155…

10 out of 10 <P>

Track 17 - Sheila - Na Na Na (The Best Time 4 Love)

Perhaps one of the best Time songs I’ve heard in a while! The singer is strong and the feeling is nice. This suffers from what Dragostea Din Tei suffered but I can overlook it sometimes. Especially when you get a song like this! It’s kinda cool how as much as the word Na is repeated so much in this song, it never seems repetitive. This is how Time songs should be!

10 out of 10 <P>

Track 18 - Freddy Rodgers - Dance To The Music

Written by Federico Pasquini (Freddy Rodgers) and big papa Giancarlo Pasquini (Dave Rodgers)! While he might not be the youngest singer to appear on a Super Eurobeat CD, he’s pretty close at 13 years old. I really like this song as it combines many elements of A-Beat C songs along with just a plain innocent feeling. It’s just plain cool to hear Freddy! Guitars fill the background just like Dave’s old style songs. But that’s where the similarities end as this style is purely his own!

10 out of 10 <P>

Best Songs

Going Crazy by Queen 26
Original Sin by Powerful T.
Space Fighter by Captain America
She's The One by Karen
Dance To The Music by Freddy Rodgers

It follows a similar format to 151 and the main theme of this CD is to show how Disco and Eurobeat are one in the same. This CD might be a hard pill for a lot of fans to swallow, especially those expecting something similar to what they’ve heard from their favorite singers. Manuel might be the biggest disappointment to most fans. Freddy Rodgers is the biggest surprise and how cool the song came out! Almost as surprising was Queen 26 with her Disco flavor. It’s quite different that what most people are used to. My biggest gripe with this CD is that it has a lot of songs that have extremely similar elements from old songs. Big no no. But for the most part, this CD is great and solid. On a side note... WE HAVE A FAST POWERFUL T. SONG AGAIN! GO GO POWERFUL T.!!!!!!!!!!

Overall Grade – 9 out of 10 <G>

Because of my own vanity and need to be loved, I decided to repost my review under redtarzanboi's. I think we both agree that Queen 26 is a refreshing change for eurobeat and that Karen rocks the universe.

1) O-zone ZZZZZ this mix offers nothing new to this song.
2) Manuel - All The Best Man this is the future of eurobeat. Fantastic powerful upbeat dramatic fun track. They also bring back some great drum sounds from the 80's that I haven't heard used in a while. I can hear Rick Astley singing a track like this. Manuel's voice is in great control this time. Sounds like Dave Rodgers a bit though. This one will be on the top of the best tracks of 2005 for me. 5ive *****
3) Queen 26 - All The Best WOW super cute track from Delta, written and produced by Laurent Newfield. This is a brand new sound for Delta and I hope it's a new direction. It's sounds disco house and eurobeat all the same time. 4our ****
4) Powerful T. - Original Sin Well, standard, though great Powerful T. type song. Sounds like his vocals have been pitched down just a bit. I dont' think this one will stick with me as well as some of his other tracks.
4our ****
5) Captain America - Space Fighter Ken Laszlo is back again for LED Records. This one sounds dated, though all Manic Eurobeat fans will like this one 3hree ***
6) Delta Queens - Blue What a great song from Delta. It's really messy and the synths go all over the place. Clara's on vocals. But with all the crazy synths running around and key changes, it's not a bad song.
4our ****
7) Van TK - Never Gimme Up This sounds like an A Beat C song. This is f-ing fantastic. Van TK is my favorite singer from SCP now. This one is just like his last tracks, slower, more mature, bright and shining. Love this style of music. I can see this song being played at a club, disco, lounge or block party. 5ive *****
8) Go Go Girls - I Wanna Be Fat Written by Elena Goddi Frattini is another great GGG song. Lyrics are really original. "French Fries, Milk Shake, I look at me and I feel okay". The lyrics are really about feeling good about yourself. 4our****
9) Franz Tornado - One Night With Bazooka Belly Dancers I am not a fan of HiNRG Attacks male vocalists. This one is not too bad though. The sound quality is really bad though. 3hree ***
10) Karen - She's The One WOWOWOWOW Such a classy and elegant track. Karen's voice is top notch this time. She wrote this song with Luigi and Dave. The chorus sounds a bit familiar though, but I can't place it right now. I never figure out who "She" is in the song. Not your typical Eurobeat song. 5ive *****
11) Nando - Toyboy Great intro to this song. Then it kinda falls apart but manages to pick itself back up again. The synths are a bit annoying though. Not too bad, but I love the bridge and chorus 4our ****
12) ZaZa - I Wanna Be With You 0ero
13) Symbol - Lonely Boy 1ne *
14) Leslie Perrish - No Matter What 1ne*
15) Nuage - Still Love Already heard this one before, but it's not the best Nuage track 3hree ***
16) Ace - My Valentine I'm SO in love with this track. So melodic and moving. Ace's voice is great and is very restrained. Perfect for Valentine's day. Love the lines "When the chips are down, I turn around and badly need your tender love, you'll be by my side". 5ive *****
17) Sheila - Best Time For Love 1ne* Time really needs to hang it up.
18) Freddie Rogers - Dance To The Music Well the intro is very disney sounding. You can hear Nuage on background vocals. Is this his step-mom? Freddie has a very bright career ahead of him. This is a great track. His voice hasn't broken yet. He's a great singer though and can hold his own with his mom and pop. We need a song from the entire Rodgers family now. 5ive *****

Top songs from SeB 154:

Manuel - All The Best
Van TK - Never Gimme Up
Freddie Rogers - Dance To The Music
Ace - My Valentine
Karen - She's The One
Queen 26 - Going Crazy
Nuage - Still Love
Go Go Girls - I Wanna Be Fat

for real, the song might be good if you like that kind of house disco music, but Eurobeat is NOT only faster disco... and "All the best" is definitely NOT Eurobeat, as much as you may like it. I Agree on most of your opinions on other songs tho, and I really LOVE the new Powerful T.. The synths are so powerful!!

It's nice to read the review !!
Only some things have to changed :
It's Elena Gobbi (Lolita) and Nuage isen't the step mom of Federico. I know some people are really dissapointed by the fact that Mirka or Domino is "now" at this moment is out of the Eurobeat scene. And perhaps therefore have some problems with all the attention that Nuage is getting nowadays.
But let's be honest here, together with Manuel, Suzy Wender,Meri and Alesio Milani she's part of this "new" upcoming ABEATC team. The fact that AVEX JAPAN has released an album of her is just a huge sign that she is very interresting at this moment for Eurobeat in Japan.
And last but not least ,some people do think she has something with Federico's father ........ let's clear the "sky" hear. It's totally not true !!!
That's all for me know about this matter.
And futher I totally agree with the voice of Karen Wainwright, she's for me the best male vocal in the Eurobeat scene. So fresh and clear !!!

Adios,

Ronald (at work).

Heh... just a silly typo.. Karen.. male vocalist :)
But yeah agreed about the fact how Nuage has become an essential part of the A-Beat C team alongside the new generation artists as well. But a question, Domino told Phil herself that she's been a part of all of the go go girls productions and she'd also be in I Wanna Be Fat?

 it was early this morning, stupid mistake. But anyway indeed "FEMALE" vocalist, the 'best' :D :D
And about Domino, I have a heard another story. Relationship over, contact is broken.
Recordings have been made previously where already in stoke, I have seen two or three CD's in the ABEATC office full with 'new' DOMINO material (already recorded).
Perhaps things did changed, but I have my doubts about it. My 'source' was very 'clear' about this.

...I remember you :p but uhh.. how's "All The Best" NOT Eurobeat? It seems somewhat typical of Eurobeat and the only oddness to it seems to be that it's done up bigger then Eurobeat songs usually are.. Yaknow, that Mainstream kinda feel. Queen26 is a prime example of an "oops"... even the "Heaven eurobeat meets healing Style" had more of a Eurobeat feel.. Heheh.

....On a completely unrelated note, When the hell are we getting another DarkAngels song? I don't care that it's probly not gonna happen, that thing rocked!
...Love Thy Eurobeat. Love Thy Panu. Squeeze him, Please him, Light his fire. ...Beware his mad desire tho. Yes. I'm done, Move along.

Nine, I think you need to quit buying Eurobeat music and just concentrate on interviewing Domino. This is the new direction of Eurobeat. A Beat C started it and it seems that SCP and to a lesser extent Hi NRG Attack (Rick Castle) are following in line producing these great classic tracks.

153 and 154 were not so great.. i basicly miss 2 things, SPEED and POWER
Powerful T's song is great, speed and power.. But i liked if there were more speedy songs.
Eurobeat is turning into pop, in SEB 170 eurobeat is r&b if avex and labels continue doing this
Eurobeat is supposed to be eurobeat, and i would like it that way.

And more stuff from Dark Angels would be great. I'll keep my fingers crossed that we will hear from the Dark Angels again.
Cybersex is on the line, I'm still running in the nineties
