7. Baby Illusion / Mike West (10): Easily my favorite Mike West release throughout the years, alongside the beautiful Mystery (You Are). Baby Illusion falls under the general category of being a more aggressive male Time release, which already promises a lot, but for a change it's also a lot more melodic than, say, A Perfect Hero (another great track, don't get me wrong). I love the muted guitar riff in the intro, which builds up some tension before the main synthline pops in, and once the vocal phrases kick in, things stay nearly as catchy for the remainder of the track. The melodic structure is really memorable and progresses wihthout any fail. The whole package is very well-rounded and stands out as just one of the many perfect tracks off of SEB 173.

While Baby Illusion is clearly one of Gambogi's best trax. I fail to see any resemblence to A Perfect Hero. I realize it was just a statement and the Chris Stanton was probly just a random aggressive male song you mentioned, but those two are clearly from seperate worlds. A better comparison could have been Wild Night. A fairly inferior track next to Baby Illusion, but still on the same melodic field and with the same Gambogi alias.

at least we agree it's one of Mike West's best.

I didn't state it was similar to A Perfect Hero, I only said it was more melodic than that track. They're both quite different, even though they're both powerful male Time/Eurogrooves performances.

Haven't participated in a while, but here we go:

~no particular order~
1. Santa Maria (Euro Mix)/ Tatjana (don't know which label did the remix)
2. Speed Master/ MOVE ft 8-Ball (A-BEAT C)
3. Shy Gun/ Oda (Delta)
4. Spies In The Space/ Go Go Girls (A-BEAT C)
5. No Borders/ Annie (TIME/EUROGROOVE)
6. Love Dokkyun (Euro Mix)/ Club Prince (totally infectious)
7. Please Don't Leave Me/ Go2 (while not Euro, it's still Go2!!) (SCP)
8. To The Stars/ Annie (TIME/EUROGROOVE)
9. Nack 5/ Domino & Kaioh (GGM)
10. DD Dance/ Annie (TIME/EUROGROOVE)

PS: I think that Annie is one of the most underappreciated vocalist in Eurobeat history. I'm not a big TIME/EG fan, but the producers always seemed to put something new in those productions and her vocals are undeniably unique.

I decided to do a little something different this week. Since my top 10 is pretty much the same, i'll just quickly jot down my top 5. for part 2 of my countdown, I'll list 10 songs that didn't initially knock me out, but have grown on me conciderably since thier initial appearence.

Dr NRG's Top 10 Eurogrooves

1. Vicky Vale- Italo Beat Boy(DELTA)(1)
2. Marko Polo- Fighter(DELTA)(5)
3. Roswell- Rock In Fire(DELTA(3)
4. Eurogroove- Euronight(Eurogrooves)(4)
5. Doctor Bazooka & the Speed McQueens- Tokyo Race(HRG Attack)(2)

1. Lou Grant- Maharaja Night(TIME)Maharaja Night HI-NRG Revolution 14
Initially not one of my favourites from Gino. Infact I disliked it as much as say "Wanted" or "Stanger". It wasn't his vocals by no means. he sounded incredible, but rather the other parts. The brealk was completely lacking imagination.In particular the annoying repeating of the Japanese nations. The voice ,which I hope wasn't Gino sounded really off in that song. Thank GOD it was omitted in the remake. In fact it wasn't untill Super Eurobeat 169 that I came to appreciate the song 100 fold. Especially the intro, which short . but sweet showcased Gino vocals sampled in a more appropriate Eurobeat fasion. That and the fact that Dall Ora added soundworlds here and there to offset the blandness of the original really shot this new revamped classic to the top of my list.
initially=7-/10 now 10/10

2. Man Power- The Loving Thing(DELTA)Eurobeat Masters the Missing Files part 2.
This is a Nando Bonini classic that was never released from the DELTA catolog untill recently and it wasn't untill this month that it suddenly shot out at me. I was playing % Nando trax back to Back and somehow the intro of this song just shot out at me. The drums right before the riff blew me away as they built up to classic Nando style Eurobeat. The bridge to the chorus is another part that sounds really good showcasing a chorus that if heard really well is actually knda naughty. I always think the word Come really means cum in music form. Think Come Together- Areosmith and others as an example. the hard aggressive like Guitar effects during the verses sound really commanding and give the song that extra umph...and speaking of extra umph; the sounds right before the break sound like synths being pounded with all the Man Power needed to make this one a certified. In extended form it run just below 5 mins, so it never sounds like it drags on. Great work from Newfield and Co.
initially=8/10 now=10/10

3. Mara Nell- Sweet Dream Of Love(HRG Attack)Super Eurobeat Presents Euromach 09.
Mara Nell has had many nice songs, but none caught my attention like the classic You Won't Cry Tonight. This song didn't sound like much to me on it's initial appearence on the Euromach series. Now in extended form I can really see how it contains so many wonderful soundworlds remeinding me of the beautiful Joy and Sorrow from Maddy Layne. It's particularlry those Underwater soundworlds that got lost in the Euromach mix so I couldn't really hear how mesmerizing this song rerally was and if you pay close attention to intros and breaks like I do; you will see how amazingly Live Music teams put thier instruments into effect throught those parts. Especially the way Mara sings in the last chorus. I mean there is just so many wonderful aspects to mention and so little TIME. Now comes my absolute favourit part. I'm talking about the synths inserted during the lines of the chorus and verses. Right when she repeats night & day. That's pure HRG genious right there.
initially=7/10 now=10/10

4. Danny Keith- Booby(TIME)Super Eurobeat 029 Extended Version
This is a song that I was so turned off by the intro, that I initially passed up on vinyl form(I have it now) I know TIME used a lot of Tecno effects in thier intros. SomeTIMEs they worked, but sometimes I was really turned of how those had nothing to do with the song's overall melody. Danny Keith released Eurobeat that I really enjoy. His sound was more of a lighthearted fun sound than aggressive and after listening to this song for someTIME, I come to appreciate how good Gianni sounds. The tech sounds return in the break, but this TIME coupled with samples from Vanessa's "You Don't Give Me Love" and give it a really good Italo sound. The part where Gianni repeats "It's Allright" reminds me so much of his golden age classic "It's Allright" that in the end, this ong has become one of my very best Corraini releases ever.
initially=6/10 now=8+/10

5. Pricsilla- Heart & Go(DELTA)Super Eurobeat 167.
Another song I didn't fully appeciate untill the extended form was released on Juno. I don't know ,but somehow the chorus and intro really came alive in extended form. The trumpet style synths sounded really clear and fun and gave me the same feeling as when I first heard Love Is In Danger. The break wich contains the alongated chorus and even more the riff continues untill the end and that's were the trumpets really sound commanding, that is for some reason I always think of Medeval TIMEs whan I hear it play.
initially=8/10 now=9/10

6. Michelle Rose- My Love Is Your Love(HRG Attack)Super Euro X'Mas 2003 Non-Stop Megamix.
I had never heard this song, cuz I don't care too much for mixes, so it's totally new to me. I figured i wouldn't have given it too much thought on that X-mas cd? Anyway we have the famous hyped up HRG vocals that at TIMEs can sound tedious. This round they sound right on target. She evn sounds quite an octave lower on that chorus that is just irrisitable to sing along to. The riff sounds like it belongs, but then like it could also be from another song, so in the end it fits perfectly to the song's feeling. Break Break Breaks. Thiese are absolutley amazing and I wish HRG would return to this style breaks. It's actually just the songs melody of A & B mellows and sabi, but played in different style and with different instruments that they just sound like the right formula to bring the songs to life.

7. Claudia VIP- White Is For U, Black Is For Me(HRG Attack)Super Eurobeat Presents Euromach 08.
This another song that initially didn't sound all that special from other HRG Attack songs from that era. The fact that it was in mix form didn't help one bit either, but now in extended form sounds 10 x better than ever. Even the chorus; which at first I found rather repititious, now sounds addictive even the way Claudia repeats the last word after each phrase stands out so much more. Again ,for me a proper break is essential and this song finally showcases that marvelously. The part when the synths are played accapella form sounds really good, but also the other soundworlds sound quite Italo style from the 90's, I always thought the riff kinda broke away from the songs melody, but that is what makes it sound so much beter today.
initiually=7/10 now=9+/10

8. Doll Sisiters- Wanna Be My Dreamy Valentine(HRG Attack)Super Eurobeat Presents Euromach 12.
Another HRG Attack song that did absolutely nothing for me in mix form. I didn't even recall it ever being released untill I chrecked the data base for it's initial appeareance. Again in extended form these songs take on a whole other life. Whre to start? How about that magnificant intro. The ohhs ohhs sounds more like Owa Oh the way the sisters are singing. Anyway the song shorty takes on a whole other path. Here is what I conceider Cute Eurobeat to my liking. It's not silly at all and it could rerally be cuz of the meoldies in the verse and bridge. The chorus kicks off the cute sounding part and continues with that infectuous riff, but my favourite part is the third bridge ; which ommits the chorus and instead inserts a mini break with the owa ohs. Then what the third verse does is add that gallopinging bass effect which I so love. All these parts were omitted on that Euromach mix. Man those AVEX mixers sure know how leav out the best parts from a song. Anyway, now the song provides me with pure bliss. mmm..who should I dedicate it to? :D
initially= =(didn't even remeber it) now=9/10

9. Neo- Eurohero(ABeatC)Super Eurobeat 168.
probly it was the fact that Neo had to songs back to back on 169 and 169, but somehow I totally forget about this one. I even thought it was Midnight Love when and The whao whaos kick in in the chorus. Either way I really started to listen to this one evn more than Midnight Love. I don't think it can top the aggression of Midnight Lov'e's "shock" shouts, but comes damn close with the whoa whoas.
initailly=8+/10 but forgot about it. Now=10-/10

10. Eurosisters- Dance All Night(TIME)SuperEurobeat vol. 114.
Believe it or not this song fell flat on it's face when I first heard. It sounded so much "Done that ,heard that before", but then I realize it actually kinda sounds like one of my Gambogi favourites. I talking bout "Imagination" especially in the riff. Anyway I always thought Elana sounded good, but the meoldy just wasn't thrilling me in no particular reason. I still gots to get the extended from Mumo, but for now the parts that I originally loves...The intro, bridge, and vocals now shine even more.
initially= 7/10 now=10-/10

Unfortunately is was Gino. I'm also glad it was omitted in the remake.
Gino did this kind of yelling before, in the classic Dr. Money song "Love That Body". This is one of the songs where the radio version is better than the extended (just because of the yelling which totally ruined it imo).

10. Eurosisters- Dance All Night(TIME)SuperEurobeat vol. 114.[/quote]

I'm glad you acknowledge the high quality of this song now! :grin:

I have that song. You mean that yelling style in the intro? That wasn't as bad as the Mahraja Nights. I didn't guess that was him at all. then it's gotta also be him in the intro for Flippin Out- Jackie O? I think one of his best yells was in Not This TIME- Toby Ash 8)

Yes, the yelling in the intro, but it was also in a long part of the break. It was also in the dub and last versions. And it's him in Flippin Out indeed! The yell in Not this time is good! That entire song is very good. Sound like a crossover between Time and Vibration. It was one of his last songs at Time records.

Gorgeous list, not a single bad song. :grin:

Anyways, here is mine

1. Livin' On A Prayer - Niko
2. Everybody Shake - Nuage
3. Made In Heaven - Karen
(Whatever happened to Karen/Kelly Wright ? She is like the next in line of my "Queen of eurobeat", Only topped by the powerful and beautiful Nuage, songs like that just makes me miss her a whole lot more, and if Nuage is really out of A-Beat-C, She would undoubtedly be the next "Queen Of Eurobeat".)
4. Come & Get Me - Karen
5. Love Is Like A Fever - Dany
(This song shows that Time has so much potential to make good songs instead of remakes over remakes, which most of them don't really work anyways, this sure raised my impression of Time a lot, Extra credits for the intro as well, one of the best, if not, the best I have heard so far. I have to admit being blown quite hard by this song.)
6. Speedman - Dave Simon
(Again, why the whole bunch of remakes from Time when most of their songs which does not end with a date work the best, That one just blows my mind. To add on, we need more Dave Simon instead of Gambogi, Seriously.
7. Watch Me Dancing - Dave Rodgers
8. Bach Is Back - Daniel & Cherry
9. Go Go Go Baby Go Go - King & Queen
10. Called My Name - Mega NRG Man
You and me like a fire tonight
Me and you 2 guardian angels
Now I feel your touch into my heart
A ray of sun~

Romeo - Game Over
Marko Polo - Fighter
Cy-Ro - Turbo Power
Lou Lou Marina - Formula One
Speed McQueen - Speed Control
Nick Turbo - Ride On Fire
Mad Cow and the girls - Matrioska Niet Katiuska
Nikita Jr. - ParaPara Lemonade
Jimmy Diamond - Space Invader(sound too much like Mister Max - Rambo?)
Sara - Little Love

HRG is suffering from the cookie-cutter syndrome again, eg Superfast Tokyo Drift, Fast Food Bikers, Run And Run, and Magna el Pirahna have almost the same synth hook, and most of the songs are based on only two or three different basslines, eg Wheels On Fire, Russian Gangster, and Race Speed and Fire all use the Black Magic/Korea Japan formula. They still manage to break out the odd unique song once in a blue moon though, a few of which even made it onto SEB, eg You Kiss My Lover. Is Avex forcing the style on them too? And worse, are they secretly controlling HRG's iTunes/Juno releases?

that was a Dall Ora/ Somenzi production. She started at Vibration. I'm pretty sure Gino was co-pilot on that as well :)

I love this song too! Dhany's vocals fit so well in Eurobeat, I hope we get more of her in the future. *looks at Eurogrooves*
