Extra mixes on old eurobeat 12" singles?

Post by MiKong » 11 May 2011, 23:31

I'm relatively new to eurobeat music, I enjoy the recent sounds in the genre as well as the classics.

I noticed that most (if not all) old eurobeat singles have extra mixes. First you'd have the standard (extended) mix, then maybe an instrumental, a radio mix or an acappella......

......and then you'd have mixes like "Last Version" or "Extra Beat".

What were these mixes used for? Did they have a purpose? I'm always thinking that they may have been used by DJs for mixing purposes, but I'm probably wrong :P

Listening pleasure? I don't know. Maybe for the buyer who wants something they haven't heard before. Other than that, I don't think they were used in a big way.

You have to have had some kinda DJ expirience to appcreciate those old vinyls with the extra versions. back then It was used to create a different version of the song, but only for the moment.

Nowadays alot of those are sold online. HRG Attack and Vibration released most of there catalog online. If you purchase all versipns, you can actually create your own mix of the song and save it onto cd disc forever. Like I said, you must have some creatabilty disires to appreciate what you can do with those extra versions. For example I someTIMES get a hold of the instrumental versions for some of SCPs newer songs and actually make my mix of songs like Plastic, Little Little Star ect...

Where was Eurobeat vinyl sold? I've looked on Imorecords, and they have nothing.

It seems avex stopped releasing eurobeat vinyls around the 190s around the same time Cisco Records closed.

You can find some older stuff on ebay and yahoo japan auctions, occassionally you'll also find avex promo vinyls too which depending on how rare they are can go for quite a bit of monies

fixed :P I still think it had something to do with that

also the record labels stopped producing vinyls around 2003ish and avex vinyl releases picked up with the release of SEB157 on vinyl with extended versions and the SEB collection vol. 1 (4 vinyl set) around 164. There are also many vinyls that were made for parapara releases such as Gazen Tokubetsu Gentei Hen, Gazen ParaPara Final He no Michi, Campus Summit 2007, WLTP etc. You might want to look into this, but all of them are DJ Gun edits and are not extend. The only "NEW" ones in extend are the SEB157-16x somethings. The best vinyls imo are the ones from 2002-2003 era with like Don't Wanna Lose You Baby / Nuage, Bang Bang Bang / Go Go Girls, Captain Fantastic / Matt Land etc.

Don't know how long you have been collecting vinyls, but that era you speak of did have great songs, but the quality of the pressing of vinyls suffered a lot. If you ever get a chance compare the clearness of the sound of a 90s TIME,FLEA, Saiafam, even early HRG Attack vinyls to those realesed after 2000s. , . It almost seemed like they tried mimicing the "Lousness" sound from mp3s onto vinyl and it clearly made those vinyls sound muffled and just plain aweful.

The biggest offenders were Boom Boom Beat and HRG Attack vinyls released during the Euromach days. I think the fact that the labes squeezed in 4 songs on each record, contributed to the cheap sound.[/quote]
