"Days To Come" Remix Contest – Odyssey's Back!

Post by zoupzuop2 » 19 Nov 2012, 20:18

Just like earlier this year, I've made a Eurobeat remix of an EDM song (in this case "Days to Come ft. Fiora" by Seven Lions of OWSLA), and would like to share it with you! Please consider voting for it in approximately 1 week.

[Warning: Just like the last remix, it has elements of non-Eurobeat in it, to a level that may make you uncomfortable if you don't tend to get into... well, OWSLA's usual releases.]

having never heard this song in it's original form, I have to say I quite enjoyed the music. Empahasis on the MUSIC.

The intro was great. Nice incorporation of piano and I liked the synth hook a lot, but I usually like all your synth hooks. I'm not a fan of the dub step at all, but even that seemed to be adequately inserted. I don't know if it's you who added in the crazy synth sounds or if they belong to original song, but I loved those too. I especially like that you kept the bass to a true Eurobeat form.

What I didn't enjoy and is pretty much the root of Eurobeat for me; where the vocals. I hardly heard any Odessey vocals at all.. Is that you in the drowned out vocals? Anyway, her vocals do not fit Eurobeat and are in my opinion, boring. The song also didn't have anything that I would concider a chorus.

IMOP, I think this song would work better for me with your vocals only or as an instrumental. Even that ambient feel works for me in instrumental form. Do you have a version without her vocals and more Ken Blast. That would be even better.

In short; I enjoyed everything Odessey style inserted in the song, but not much of the original song.

Sorry Travis, not this time. I loved your remix of Spectrum but this one is a total let down, imo. The riff is just "so-so" at best. And then... you drop every single Eurobeat instruments save for bass and piano. Twice. It breaks the energy for me. If this was used as the brekdown, I would have been OK with that since I've heard worse.

Now, the dubstep.... While I've growned to enjoy Spectrum's sample of dubstep, this one is totally out of place and hurt my ears. I understand why you incorporated that though...

I've heard the original and... the song is TOTALLY NOT fit for a Eurobeat remix. It's way more suited for Trance or related electronic genres.

Sorry, but not this time.

To be fair, I actually kind of enjoy this remix, especially for, as drnrg noted, the production. The sabi is extremely catchy and probably the highlight of the track, but I also love the low, resonant backdrop synths. The vocal melody isn't particularly momentous, but it does suit the indie trance approach you took here. Despite a few rough edges, this is actually quite a unique and perhaps futuristic-sounding production. I'd love to hear more tracks from you crafted in this style, with perhaps a slightly larger emphasis on vocals.

Thanks Lebon.

Now that I've heard the original, I can appreciate The Odessey Eurobeat vibe even more. You did insert the crazy synth sounds during the dub step. That gave it more life. Anyway, The vocals are still defintely the major letdown for me.

Save for that part at the 3:00 minuit mark; that original Seven Lions song was really a task for me to listen to. Not my style at all. I have; in the past liked some songs from M83, but I prefere more upbeat feel from bands like Capital Cities and Empire of The Sun. Not even sure if they fit in this same genre, but some of thier songs carry similiar melodies like this song.

Like I said; Travis's song would sound really cool as instrumental.
