Freestyle was also called HIGH ENERGY

8) Do you guys remember the term "Freestyle" dance music which originated in the clubs of Maimi, Florida by the likes of Stevie B., Cover Girls, Sweet Sensation,TKA and Expose?
Expose are the group in question. Before labeling thier music Freestyle, thier songs (which were very heavy on Synths) were being mixed with the likes of Lime, Tapps, and Fun Fun. I know this because since I was a DEE Jay in 80's I had to mix these together. Not only that, but since thier music had no label yet..it fell under High Energy. Imagine That: FreeStyle being called High Energy? by the way I did follow that music because of the Synths. It was called The "Latin High Energy"
It died out in mid 90's but I have always thought this to be a controversy between the major American record labels in order to take music away from foriegn performers and give it back to Ameriacns. Hence the horrible idea of American Idol. That says it all. Even huge English acts like Duran Duran find it hard to break the charts. Only die hard fans of thiers follow thier music in the 2000's
What do you guys think killed happy catchy upbeat music in the states?

Oh baby! Freestyle is in my blood. Puerto Ricans are exposed to Freestyle along with Salsa and Merengue as children. Johnny O, Cynthia, TKA, Lil Suzy... oh baby... If you guys dont' know what Freestyle is, I recommend looking for the following songs

Johnny O and Cynthia - Dreamboy Dreamgirl
TKA - Scars Of Love

As a teenager, I only watch one episode of American Idol a year, and that is to see how terrible some of the people are.

Anyway....
Why isn't dance music (just in general) big in the U.S.? It's simple; no market. I can tell you, most of my friends follow the "fad" that is currently going on. The U.S. has never really produced, or created, any major dance stars/musicians. Most of the dance music we have comes from Europe. Most people in the states don't enjoy or listen to it anyway, so what's the point of trying to mainstream it? That's basically what it comes down to. At least it does in my opinion.

Oh Dear God, I love 80s Freestyle.... a staple of the roller skating rinks in the late 80s and early 90s.... I'd have to say a few of my favorites were...

Noel - "Silent Morning"
Judy Torres - "No Reason to Cry"
TKA - "You Are The One"
Coro - "Where Are You Tonight?"
Nice & Wild - "Diamond Girl"
George Lamond - "Bad of the Heart"

I'd always been HOPING someone would mention this type of music on a Eurobeat board.....

8)George Lamond formally from TKA.
Johnny O and Cythia are brother & Sister
Nice & Wild are actually 3 guys.

I also saw 80% of these groups in a Downtown L.A. club called Casa Camino Real. Where I also was a High Energy Dancer. Play With Me Attractions was our group. named after the group who sang "Playing With Love"
This was the music I listened to right before I got into Italo Beat. :D
Glad to see so many of you remember!
