Yeah, I'll second that.oresama-chan wrote:I went for Dark In The Night 2004, too. I prefer the original, though.
Best SEB remake?
Disagree with that but hey, that's more a matter of taste.Jayveemon wrote:Love Is Danger is horrible it sounds like cheesy cyber synth pop at best.
The second part of this I completely and utterly disagree with - this is one Annerley's songs which she genuinely puts some power and passion into - especially in that chorus.Jayveemon wrote:On My Own I would say is best for production of the music but vocally it's the worst song ever.
I have no idea what part you missed that lead you to that opinion, but the remake is in a league of its own - heck, the synths and their much richer texture change the tone of the song completely. The original seemingly put the focus more on the drums (much more prominent disco beat), whereas the remake completely flips it around to being a much deeper (but less prevalent) drum beat, but ultimately with far more focus on the synths providing those chord harmonies (I love some of the new subtle decorations in the background) - not to mention the fantastic guitar solo after the second verse.Jayveemon wrote:Wild Reputation... it sounds like the original with added bass
Honestly, I would put Wild Reputation up there as my absolute favourite remake.
Dark In The Night 2004's main problem is that it feels unnaturally sped up to my ears - maybe I'm too used to hearing the original, but those vocals don't seem to fit right as they should do in places. Hence why I like the original better. I'm not denying all aspects of the remake - it does have its qualities, but not enough to make me consider it a strong remake, and once again this comes back to the point that it does not deserve the huge reverence it seems to get.
I do agree on Jilly's Ding A Ling 2006 being a great song. I haven't actually had much chance to fully take this one in yet, but this one is definitely shaping up to be one of the greats.
I think people keep wanting these remakes to be faster, peppier versions of the originals. Personally, for my money, I'd keep the tempo exactly as it is, and just beef up the content. Faster does NOT equal more powerful.

Dark In The Night's remake was alright - but it was one of those things that I prefered the original better. Though, I can say the worse remake in my opinion is Like A Virgin 2005. They took a good song and made it sound really bad
how about night of fire 2004 - it wasnt released on a seb album but it appeared in niko's music video of it. I quite liked that, concidering it's night of fire and all. haha

How about Tora Tora Tora (Doutonbori Fever Mix 2003) ? :DNine wrote:Dark In The Night's remake was alright - but it was one of those things that I prefered the original better.
