Italodisco -> Eurobeat Remakes

Post by Toni » 05 Aug 2006, 19:57

I just thought about this: why not make a list of Eurobeat that was Italo originally? I only know this one actually:?

Latin Lover - Laser Light -> Ivan B. - Laser Light

Are there any others?

n.B. Is it actually legal for an individual to remake (not remix) a song?

Well, from what I recall, no, it's not exactly legal. Unless they were the ones who originally made the song. Check the writer credits, see if they match up.

And on that note, I've always wondered about how they got away with not crediting whoever wrote the original song for Cybersexy Girl. It's not a cover, but it's the same melody.

It's legal if they license the rights to cover it, of course.

Well, when you get into melodies, it gets tricky.

There needs to be specific direct evidence that the melody was taken from another song... there are a lot of songs out there that sound similar but really have nothing to do with one another.
Be the sound you feel inside your voice!

The original Cyber Sexy Girl melody is found on Taylor Dayne's- Tell It To My Heart.
Drive In The Night- Sophie is also an Italo remake from the group Havanah, but also written by Dall Ora and Farrington.

Latin Lover's Laser Light is a great song, but I think "Cassanove Action" tops all Latin Lovers songs.
Kevin Johnson's "Gotta Be Your Lover" is an Italo Remake from Taco.

And if you listen to all Eurobeat closely you will hear that all the synth melodys are rehashed from older Italo songs. I won't make a list, because it would be huge, but whenever you get that Desa-vouse feeling, you'll know why. :D

Ah IC.

The point of asking this about copyrights was that I'm plannning to do a remake of 'Catch Me Now I'm Falling - K.B. Caps' It's a great song for an outro or something.
So I see it's illegal to copy right from the original. New plan: interpret the chord scheme and melody. 8) I'll have to change the text, but I want to keep the title. That wouldn't be a problem, right?

Toni, That may or not be tru. Remeber A couple of Rap Dance Artist who borrow melodys from, Rick James and Queen. There were some legal disputes, but like I said Eurobeat borrows so much, that I do not think any one melody can be pin pointed. Even Cyber Sexy Girl is a completely different song from Taylor Daynes. :D
For your other question. If you keep the same exact song you can use same title and artist, but if you change melody synth, I think it would be safer to change the artist name. Therefore at first site, it won't attract attention. Just a thought mind you, I'm not expert.
Good luck with project :D
