Reviews: Back to Index

The albums have been graded on the most common grading system used in Finnish schools. Where 4 is the worst, and 10 is the best. The final score for the album is most of the times the average for all of the tracks, though it can also change if the reviewer wishes so. The Super Eurobeat Non-Stop albums will be reviewed as full collections, and the individual songs won't be reviewed, unless they are completely new. Though Euromach and JGTC albums for example will have complete song by song reviews.
The grading system simply goes as ie. 4- (3,75), 4 (4), 4+ (4,25) and 4½ (4,5) and the next one again would be 5-. A simple system we have over here in Finland.

  Maharaja Night HI-NRG Revolution 19

1.Lolita - Cherry Girl (Extended Mix) (A-Beat C)
Another Maharaja and another hit album opener. Lolita's distinctive style can be heard from the vocals easily and the cheeriness of the song is irresistible. The song isn't by any standards at the level of the best Lolita songs, but the basics are okay and the melody is rather good too, so the song works out like it's supposed to, but not too many people will remember this in the long run.
Rating : 8+

2.Domino - My Love Is Still Alive (Extended Mix) (A-Beat C)
So we get another great vocalist, and also an improvement to the level of the previous song. This song starts with an exceptionally heavy sounds and the backgrounds steal the glory from Domino in this track as the vocals are kinda muffled and get lost in the backgrounds, but it's not a bad thing in this case, as the melody is great and the backgrounds sound really good. Not her best yet, but very well done.

3.Delta Force - You'll Be Mine (Extended Mix) (A-Beat C)
I was totally distracted by this title, what is an artist titled Delta Force doing on A-Beat C? Well that aside, we get a rather typical eurobeat song that has yet again a nice melody and a nice chorus, though the song can't create an athmosphere that would keep me coming back to it, only the c-melody sparks up the mood enough to light my desires.

4.Mirka - Diamond Love (Extended Mix) (A-Beat C)
And this time it's Alessandra Mirka Gatti who blows the jackpot, and oh my with what a song. This song is pretty much your standard eurobeat song, but the melody is just too irresistible and the extra speedy pace suits the song like a dream. The vocals sound awesome, and the chorus finishes the package into a perfect treat for any eurobeat fan. You just have to sing along to Diamond Love as the lyrics are also very adorable and cool at the same time. One of the best songs in Maharaja Night history.
Rating : 10++

5.Jean Corraine - Rocking My Heart (Extended Version) (A-Beat C)
The style of the album takes another turn as the previous upbeat and happy mood switches into a more serious eurobeat style. Rocking My Heart is a rather typical A-Beat C production that has a catchy beat and a good melody, but this time around the vocals aren't much of a yay, I didn't gain any of that 'gotta sing along to' feel from the song even though I listened to the song over and over again. Could be worse, and much better as well.
Rating : 7-

6.Margaret - Blue Eyes (Extended Mix) (A-Beat C)
The upbeat beat is back as we get another nice treat for the people who like happier style of eurobeat. We are no where near the level of Mirka's song but this song has it's advantages as well. The chorus ain't really the highlight of the song as it gets mixed up the verses, but the real plus for this song is that the melody is good, only if the sounds would've been better.
Rating : 7

7.DJ NRG - Stop Your Time (Extended Mix) (A-Beat C)
DJ NRG has a marvellous resume with his previous songs already, and it's always nice to hear new songs from him. This time we get another typical eurobeat song that starts sounding really good, but in the end it turns into an anticlimax. The chorus is nowhere as catchy as I would've expected it to be, though the verses work well, but still the chorus is generally the best part bout the song (c-melodies aside), but not for this one.

8.Mr. Groove - This House Is On Fire (Extended Mix) (A-Beat C)
An intro with guitars, we haven't heard that in a while. And a song with 'Fire' in the title, haven't heard that in a while either. Eurobeat must be a pyromanics dream genre with all of the different things on fire. At first the song started very typical and decent, and after a while it still sounded very typical but something had changed as I unconsciencously started humming the vocals and noticed that I really liked the song. Not a real masterpiece but I really do like it.
Rating : 8+

9.Valentina & Mirka - A Lotta Fantasy (Extended Mix) (A-Beat C)
The title Valentina & Mirka always gives me positive images with song titles like I Love Spaghetti and Shake Me Up, so I was getting ready for another funfilled ride. The verses in this track aren't very good and I was getting disappointed, but fortunately the chorus made up for the bad level of the verses. The c-melody sounds really good, and after I gave the song some time I began liking it even more. Still Shake Me Up remains unbeaten.

10.Marie Aldridge - After All (A-Beat C)
Alessandra Mirka Gatti sure got a lot of room on this album. She's appeared on multiple songs up to this point, she's also done vocals for Marie Aldridge but this time it's Elena Gobbi doing the vocals, and we are treated to yet another catchy song. Extremely catchy vocals, and a killer chorus. The hyper speedy backgrounds are refreshing as I enjoy really fast materials and this melody offers me exactly what I like.

11.Derreck Simons - Keep On Dancing (Extended Mix) (A-Beat C)
As far as a male vocalists go I've still got some personal issues with most male vocalists, and don't really go for them in the first place. Though slowly I'm starting to approve more men in the music scene, and mainly due to the eurobeat vocalists who have done a great job with the music. This track relies pretty much on the vocals as the melody ain't really anything special and only the c-melody brings out the true colors of the song. I wish they would try out more radical sounds and effects every now and then.

12.Go Go Girls - Dirty Dance (Extended Mix) (A-Beat C)
Ah my very first Eurobeat CD I got had this song in it, and I can still remember looping the song over and over again. As far as Go Go Girls songs go, this is one from the better end, the catchiness, the energetic vocals, the hyper chorus and the sounds give this song a real boost. The c-melody sounds simple yet effective, and over all this is a real treat for those of use who enjoy songs that seem a bit on crack and way too hyper for their own safety.
Rating : 10+

13.Mega NRG Man - Called My Name (Extended Mix) (A-Beat C)
And the album is about to be finished, with an A-Beat C front like this it wouldn't be complete without Mega NRG Man or Dave Rodgers in the mix. My grudges aside, we get a really cheery song that doesn't really seem like what Mega NRG Man would do in the first place, the cheery effect in the background seems a bit out of place, but I like it anyways. The chorus is really energetic and the vocals give the song a nice edge. A great song to finish the album off with.

Final Words :
Maharaja Nights have been rather high level for the whole time, and this album carries on with the same level. Nothing really phenomenal, but the album is plain good. Mirka and Go Go Girls offer us a couple of real treasures, but these songs aside there are just good and pretty good sonds in the mix. I would've hoped a bit more upbeat tone to the album, but well you can't have everything. For the time being I'm left looping Diamond Love over and over again.

Final Score : 8½
