Reviews: Back to Index

The albums have been graded on the most common grading system used in Finnish schools. Where 4 is the worst, and 10 is the best. The final score for the album is most of the times the average for all of the tracks, though it can also change if the reviewer wishes so. The Super Eurobeat Non-Stop albums will be reviewed as full collections, and the individual songs won't be reviewed, unless they are completely new. Though Euromach and JGTC albums for example will have complete song by song reviews.
The grading system simply goes as ie. 4- (3,75), 4 (4), 4+ (4,25) and 4½ (4,5) and the next one again would be 5-. A simple system we have over here in Finland.
Eurobeat Flash 10th Anniversary Non-Stop Mega Mix

1.Princess F. - Technotronic Flight (HI-NRG Attack)
So the 10th anniversary for Eurobeat Flash is celebrated this time by a double cd album with all of the best songs from the earlier albums and a bonus disc with some new remixes and a few new songs as well. The album kicks off with one of the most memorable songs in the whole Eurobeat Flash history: Technotronic Flight, pretty much all know the energy and catchiness of this song, and quite amazingly in the mix they've made it even catchier, I love the way they tempered with the bass and added a lot more of it making the song sound really amazing. A killer song for the opening indeed.
Rating : 10

2.Cy-Ro - Bad Illusion (HI-NRG Attack)
The album carries on with the HI-NRG Attack materials, and we get another song that was bound to appear on later compilations. We're not dealing with a perfect and catchy song like the opener, but the song is really well written and it still manages to sound great, the thing I like with Cy-Ro is his vocals that sound plain terrific, and again high points for the great c-melody.
Rating : 9+

3.Franz Tornado - Danger (HI-NRG Attack)
The father of wacky HI-NRG Attack materials is naturally as well featured on the anniversary album, and with a great song as well. The verses and the song itself aren't very fast but the chorus adds some speed just slightly making the song more catchy, and the chorus is also clearly the highlight for the song. Great hooks with the vocals and the lyrics in their simplicity are very efficient.
Rating : 9+

4.Dolly Pop - Take My Gum (HI-NRG Attack)
And yet another classic song from the same label is presented and the energy level jumps up yet again. Dolly Pop has had a lot of great songs, but this is definitely the most well known and possibly the best one as well. The chorus is irresistible, her vocals sound great and the sounds work perfectly. Not much to say, it did make it to the anniversary album, that already says something, doesn't it?
Rating : 10-

5.Jim Bogart - Think Positive (Time)
The good thing Time on Eurobeat Flashes is that they had a clearly different touch to their music back during this time, like this song (and few others on the album later on also prove) displays. The song is slightly calmer than the previous tracks but it still is fast and even though the sounds are rather simple and not that catchy they work because the song has a great melody to back it up, also a great c-melody.
Rating : 9-

6.Jackie O. - Flippin' Out (Vibration)
The songs we've heard from Jackie O. have pretty much all been catchy or good otherwise, and this song doesn't make an exception. We're dealing with energetic and high quality Vibration songs as usual, the song isn't nothing spectacular but it's a good basic eurobeat song to make you move and feel good.

7.Spencer - Doctor Of Love (Boom Boom Beat)
The good old times when BBB was present and it's really a shame they're not with Avex anymore. The song reminds me a lot of Alvin (and perhaps we're dealing with the same vocalist), I mean I am quite sure that it's the same guy, as the similarities are so clear. Good vocals, great melody, catchy, just like BBB is.
Rating : 9-

8.Kate & Karen - Step Into My Heart (Time)
Time displays another very effective song that reminds me of A-Beat C for some reason. We have a really hyper song in our hands that is unlike Time in general, also we get very variable backgrounds in co-operation with great vocals. The song is exactly the kind of music I like : Upbeat, catchy, energetic and most of all distinctive. Somebody should take Time back in time to this era.
Rating : 10

9.Dee Dee - Hey Hey Baby Cry (Vibration)
This is another title that I would've argued to be a female if I didn't hear the song myself (as there is another artist with the title Dee Dee and that's a female one), well anyways this song is not completely in the same crowd with the best songs on the album. The track is upbeat, cheery and pretty fast but it's not as catchy as most of the album is. Still your everyday good Vibration.
Rating : 8

10.Debbie Lynn - The Queen Of Emotions (Time)
Another song in an unlikely style from Time, very upbeat and bouncy like a bubblegum. A very happy-go-lucky song that will surely make you either love it or hate it, if you're not a fan of hyper and happy songs then you surely will want to avoid this song at all costs, but if you do like songs that are a bit on crack then check this one out. Nothing too original, yet still very well done.
Rating : 9+

11.Maria Valentino - Be My Lover (Vibration)
Sadly Maria Valentino has only released 2 songs, and this being the other one (and the other is the incredibly catchy Stand Inside My Love from SEB144, this song is good as well, but no where near the level of the other song. Upbeat, speedy and your good Vibration. Great vocals are the best part with the song and are the most distinctive part about the song.
Rating :

12.Regina - You Belong To Me (Vibration)
The album takes a huge uphill with Regina presenting us a song that is really cheery and catchy at the same time. The song still works marvellously, the song is not similar to Harmony that appeared on SEB145, as this song is much more cheery and suitable for HI-NRG Attack. Simply effective.
Rating : 9

13.Michelle Rose - Sunday Night (HI-NRG Attack)
This song is simply amazing, the transition is really speedy and when the verses begin the song slows down until the chorus begins when the pace is sped up a lot, the changes in the speed make the song sound really distinctive and definitely the fact that we have an amazing song in our hands it helps a lot. Very effective vocals, great backgrounds and over all marvellous materials from HI-NRG Attack.
Rating : 10-

14.Les Blue Belles - Telephone (Time)
Clara Moroni has really stuck her nose up every place and it's interesting to take a look at her career in the past. This song is one heck of a fun filled blast. The sounds remind me of the late 80's dance songs that always managed to make me feel nostalgic. The song is really upbeat and features some marvellous moments due to the backgrounds and vocals. Over all a marvellous song that will surely get stuck in your head, irresistible chorus is the listener's doom.
Rating : 10

15.Nikita Jr. - Dancing In The Jungle (HI-NRG Attack)
An awesome transition from a great song to another great track. Nikita Jr. never stops to amaze and this song is truly irresistible. The edge it had back in the earlier Eurobeat Flashes hasn't decresed one bit, as the song is simply magnificent. Great vocals, great chorus and I love the way the mixed the song on the cd: the speed goes slighty down, then it picks up the pace and like catches up with the normal speed, it sounds really cool and well you can't hurt a classic like this much.
Rating : 10+

16.Terry Gordon - Boomerang (Time)
Time just doesn't stop, we get another irresistible song that will surely get you smiling. The song kicks off with an incredibly catchy transition and the song carries on with a hyper speed that will scare some listeners away, but if you like speedy music then this one is for you. Awesome vocals, übercatchy chorus and overall a perfect song, in the way I want my Time songs to be.
Rating : 10

17.Lisa Johnson - Paradise (Time)
Two perfect songs from Time in a row, this wouldn't happen today for sure? Or would it... Well anyways this is possibly the biggest hit song from Time for me. A swift song with excellent vocals, killer chorus, irresistible sounds and everything with this song is at place. After years of listening it still sounds fresh and catchy, that can't be said for all of the Time songs unfortunately.
Rating : 10

18.Garcon - Batman Is Bruce Wayne (HI-NRG Attack)
We all knew that, so why did they have to make a song out of it? Well it's HI-NRG Attack, go and figure. Garcon is energetic as always, and the song reminds me a lot of Franz Tornado in a good way. The song is clearly on crack and reminds me of what they did with Euromach as the songs were sped up. The song is pretty much a classic and people recognize the title surely, a great song for the album.
Rating : 9

19.Eurosisters - Discomania (Time)
The title I always confuse with Eurobeat Girls, even though I don't know why as there are so huge differences (with the exception of similar titles). The song kicks off with a nice transition and after that slowly turns into a rather standard eurobeat song with lots of synth and the basic beat to back it up. The song itself isn't very special but for a change the great vocals and good lyrics add a huge boost for the song and actually make it fun to listen to and most of all sing along to.
Rating : 9-

20.Cindy - Sex On The Beach (HI-NRG Attack)
Who would like to have Sex On The Beach, I mean you'd get sand everywhere? You'd at least need a towel to do that, and they don't mention anything about a towel in the lyrics. I'm disappointed. Well that aside we have a hyper NRG song on our hands, that has managed to make a firm status for itself for some reason. I never was a huge fan of the song, I mean I like it, but it's not one of the best ones to appear on this album or the compilation series.
Rating : 8

21.Dolly - Secret Passion (Time)
I always confuse Dolly with Dolly Pop, as the titles are so similar, but still strangely enough if these two fought I'd say that Dolly would win. I remember this song very clearly due to it's appereance on a ParaPara Paradise album, and I still can remember how swept away I was when I first heard the song, it's one of the best releases Time has done in the record labels history in my opinion. Great vocals, irresistible chorus, great sounds and everything with this song falls into place.
Rating : 10+

22.Louise - Deep Risk (HI-NRG Attack)
This song starts off sounding simply horrid, I just now can't remember how the original was but the transition is just painfull as the sounds are freaky and pretty bad sounding. Fortunately the song gets past those quickly and kicks off sounding much better. The long solo with the melody sounds great and when the vocals kick in the song slows down a bit which is also a fatal move for the song as the edge totally vanishes after that, the chorus brings the catchiness back, but the song left me feeling rather confused. Partly great, partly horrible.

23.Garcon - Bazooka Man (HI-NRG Attack)
Bazooka Man? The line I've heard so damn many times and still it manages to amaze me, there's just something so incredibly entertaining and funny about the way it's said. The song is definitely a classic like many of the HI-NRG Attack weird songs on this compilation series. A great chorus and the few female vocals add a great finishing touch to the song, also it's great to sing along to the lyrics, but who is that Bazooka Man? Somehow related to Bazooka Girl?

24.Dee Dee Wonder - Mayday (HI-NRG Attack)
To a slight surprise the album just gets faster with this incredibly hyper song. I am not sure where I got the image that this compilation series would've been slightly calmer, but this album has proved otherwise. Really energetic and we have an incredible song in our hands, the chorus is simply brilliant in it's simplicity. Excellent display of art by the label.
Rating : 10

25.Ken Martin - Virtual Love (Boom Boom Beat)
The album is finished off by the 2nd song from BBB, and we get another great track from the same stables. The song kicks off with an excellent transition and starts to sound much more variable than eurobeat in general (which is the trademark for BBB). Ken Martin's vocals are always as excellent and in this song we get a lot of treats for the ears as his voice is the main element for a long time. Great chorus, great sounds, great way to end the main cd.

Bonus Disc

1.Queen Regina - Dreamy Girl (Vibration)
A cover from a Japanese song (written by Tetsuro Oda and sung by Nanase Aikawa), that appears twice on the album, two different versions to open and close the album off with. Queen Regina, is an interesting name, and she's apparently just one new title with a vocalist who has many under her belt. The song starts off with a great sound and the best part is the awesome vocals, and I really would love to hear the original song. The lyrics are completely different from the Nikita Jr. version, and it's hard to decide which is the best version. Anyways this is simply a magnificent song that is much more than eurobeat in general.
Rating : 10+

2.Nikita Jr. - Dancing In The Jungle (Y. Show-Kai Mix) (HI-NRG Attack)
The song that I never seem to get tired with. There's just something about this song that makes me love it more than many other songs in my eurobeat history, the upbeat feeling, cheery vocals and catchy melody are the key elements. What they have done with this mix is that they've slowed down the song a bit and Nikita Jr.'s vocals sound slightly odd, but once you get used to it (DO NOT listen to the sped-up version together with this as then this song will sound like somebody broke the record player). The differences are very small to the excellent otherwise, some cool rhythmic sounds in the backgrounds but that's about it. The original is a classic, this is not the best remix ever made, but still a great track.
Rating : 10

3.Princess F. - Technotronic Flight (Special Crazy Remix) (HI-NRG Attack)
What's up with the intro? Give me a P! is that like a reference to Princess F. or something? Well okay, we all know this song. Classic, fastpaced action from the good old HI-NRG Attack, simply irresistible and definitely a legend in my books. And legends never grow old, like this song. The mix itself doesn't change the song a whole lot, it adds some nice transitions between the c-melody and the verses which at first sound odd, but after a while I began to love them and now I miss them when I listen to the regular song. A classic is a classic no matter what you say. The remix is exceptionally long by the way, nearly 8 minutes long.
Rating : 10

4.Dee Dee - Hey Hey Baby Cry (TMA Mix) (Vibration)
A lot of the songs that appeared on the 1st disc seem to appear here as well. And even though I didn't really like the regular version for Hey Hey Baby Cry they've made a lot of changes for this mix. The song has been sped up a bit, and the song has gotten a bit more upbeat feel to it due to the nice sounds that can make a difference. Not as much of a classic as the three previous songs, but still a great remix which improves from the original a lot.
Rating : 9

5.Garcon - Batman Is Bruce Wayne (Y.Show-Kai Mix) (HI-NRG Attack)
The other Garcon song that appeared on the first first disc makes it's appereance here, and it's lost some of it's edge. The some what of a classic song has suffered a huge loss, as I couldn't hear the great moments at all during this remix, and for some reason a portion of it's edge had also vanished as the mix was more mature and somewhat more boring. The vocals are still great, and the track is still good, but the mix just doesn't really do any justice for the song.

6.Franz Tornado - Danger (TMA Mix)
(HI-NRG Attack)
This time the original song loses to the remix, as we get a slightly more hyper version which suits the song very well. Franz's great vocals suit the more aggressive style perfectly and this song really didn't work that magnificently before (I mean it was great, but not magnificent), and now that the remix adds up a bit speed and does slight changes here and there the song works much better. A great song made even better.
Rating : 10-

7.Dolly - Secret Passion (TYM-P Remix) (Time)
I already praised this song sky high on the first disc, and the praises still apply as this is an amazing mix. The energy of the original song is naturally here and the changes are not very huge, just some effects to alter the song slightly, and all of these changes suit the song perfectly and if you listen to the regular song, you'll start to wonder about where all of the cool parts are, the effects feel perfectly at place with this song. An awesome song that really shows what Time has been during their golden years. I want more Dolly!
Rating : 10+

8.Garcon - Bazooka Man (Y. Show-Kai-R-Taste) (HI-NRG Attack)
Aaw, for some reason the great Bazooka Man? line isn't featured in the intro, and the remix has changed the song a whole lot, now it sounds like a track taken from a videogame. The way that the remixes on this 2nd disc have used a lot of repeat is used here again, as we'll hear even more of bazookas repeated over and over. The track still works nicely, but the extended version just starts to get slightly repetitive after a while which is mainly due to the repeating of similar parts over and over, a great song that works better when it's slightly shorter.
Rating : 9+

9.Jee Bee - Wings Of Fire (Amkulade Remix) (HI-NRG Attack)
Another huge classic, that for some reason didn't appear on the first disc, but that doesn't matter as we get a new remix on this bonus disc, which does justice to a great song. This like a few of the other songs that have appeared on Eurobeat Flash 10 is very well known and it may be a bit overplayed, which can do horrible things for some songs but this song doesn't really suffer from the constant looping. The track is simple HI-NRG Attack style, that fits some, not all. Energetic, upbeat, catchy and simply irresistible.
Rating : 10

10.Nikita Jr. - Can't Stay A Dreamy Girl (HI-NRG Attack)
Okay, this has to be the best intro I've ever heard from HI-NRG Attack. The song kicks off with the coolest sounds ever, and the song suddenly abandons the awesome sounds and shifts to a more typical HI-NRG Attack style, which is a bad move in my opinion. The synths are so dominative that at first I was really disappointed that they didn't leave more room for the great intro, but after a while I started to realize that it works nicely as it is as well. The song sounds great and it's really hard to pick the better one from this and the Queen Regina version, both are marvellous songs, and again I would love to hear the original track.
Rating : 10

Final Words :
Eurobeat Flash hasn't even been that far on it's volumes and we already get a "The Best Of" compilation like this, and that says a lot, as this album is simply brilliant. All of the awesome songs are featured here and if you are like me, and prefer the 2-3 minute versions from songs then you'll feel right at home with the first disc. The best tracks are featured all on the album and you can't really wish to get anything more, the album is a must for any eurobeat fan, and the older styles of Time, HI-NRG Attack and Vibration work marvellously, and I seriously wish we could move back in time to get the Time we had during Eurobeat Flash. The bonus disc on the album is simply brilliant, with 7 songs out of 10 that got a grade of ~10 that already says a lot, I would seriously recommend people to get acquinted with the first disc as I think this is the best compilation on the Eurobeat Flash history, the best of albums didn't have as much energy and class packed together as this one. A perfect album, and definitely one you should buy for yourself!
