Reviews: Back to Index

The albums have been graded on the most common grading system used in Finnish schools. Where 4 is the worst, and 10 is the best. The final score for the album is most of the times the average for all of the tracks, though it can also change if the reviewer wishes so. The Super Eurobeat Non-Stop albums will be reviewed as full collections, and the individual songs won't be reviewed, unless they are completely new. Though Euromach and JGTC albums for example will have complete song by song reviews.
The grading system simply goes as ie. 4- (3,75), 4 (4), 4+ (4,25) and 4½ (4,5) and the next one again would be 5-. A simple system we have over here in Finland.
  Super Eurobeat 087

1.Sophie - Lonely Love (Time)
A calm start for this Super Eurobeat album. Sophie has had a lot of songs like this one that are medium tempo and of course about love. The song isn't her best ones but still it offers quite a lot of for newer Sophie fans. There have been better album openers before but also worse ones than this as well.
Rating : 8

2.Marko Polo - Baby Queen Seventeen (Delta)
Ah after the calm opener the album blasts into fire with this track. An energetic Delta track that has an excellent melody with great vocals to back it up. Marko Polo seems to be improving slowly and this song works really well, in my opinion even better than the classic Delta song Money Go!.
Rating : 9

3.Dave Rodgers - Space Boy (A-Beat C)
What would a Super Eurobeat album be without one Dave Rodgers song to spoil it up? Fortunately this time he displays a rather good song. Space Boy is your typical Rodgers production so don't expect anything new or exciting. A good melody backed up with decent lyrics. Would've been better if it was sung by ie. Domino.
Rating : 7+

4.Go Go Girls - Dance On A Volcano (A-Beat C)
This song was one of the very first Eurobeat songs I ever heard, so the song earns a lot of nostalgy points. This song has energy for others to share and the chorus is really great. Go Go Girls have been amazing thorough their career and in my opinion this is one of the definite highlights.
Rating : 10-

5.Alexis - Fly To My Paradise (Time)
Italian people sure love to fly. This time we're taking a flight to paradise and for a change the song is also very good. Alexis' isn't the strongest eurobeat vocalist but she handles her job with skill. The song has a nice melody backed up with the basic eurobeat sounds, no biggie.
Rating : 8+

6.Pizza Girl - Crazy For You (Delta)
Pizza Girl is here with another song. The first song was pretty succesful and we are now treated with another jewel. Pizza Girl's vocals sound really awesome for some reason and Delta has created some amazing backgrounds for this song. The song is pretty fast, but for some reason I constantly get a Britney Spears image in my head when I listen to this track.
Rating : 9-

7.Frank Torpedo - Go! Go! Ferrari (Time)
I was expecting an energy packed track after seeing the title and so it wasn't a real surprise to hear this one. Once more we get new car themed songs to the array, which isn't a problem, but why a Ferrari? Oh well, besides the bad pick for the car brand the song works well with a great chorus.

8.Mike Skanner - Revolution (A-Beat C)
This song starts out sounding a lot like eurodance but as the intro is over we're brought back to the ground as the normal eurobeat sounds take over. It'd be sort of interesting to count how many A-Beat C songs there are that use all of the same elements over and over again, this song is pretty good, but as it doesn't offer anything new at all, it gets forgotten quickly.
Rating : 7+

9.Robert Patton - Gimme Love (Time)
If I didn't know better I would swear I keep on hearing the Italian beauty Alexia singing the background vocals for this song, but alas no. A normal Robert Patton song that works well as it is, but like the previous song also is easily forgotten.
Rating :

10.Denise - Take Me With You (Delta)
Another song with paradise themed lyrics. Denise does a good job with the lyrics but the song isn't really a huge masterpiece of art by other standards. The melody is rather simple and the sounds don't offer any highlights.
Rating : 7

11.King & Queen - Big In Japan (A-Beat C)
What a disappointment as this song wasn't a cover... Oh well King & Queen have a long history of great tracks and I am still really waiting for the time that they let me down for real. They didn't do it now fortunately. Big In Japan is a catchy song with amazingly cool backgrounds and great little gimmicks all around.
Rating : 9

12.Linda Ross - Riding In The Sky (Time)
Linda Ross sounds a whole lot like most of the bubblegum band singers in Europe. I can't really say why I don't like her voice, even though I used to like all of those bubblegum vocalists. The song has a nice melody, specially the c-part sounds beautiful. An average song on pretty much all levels.
Rating : 8-

13.Mako - Sonic Love (Delta)
Mako is here again with a new song, but this time the song is rather average. Mako sings with his normal strong way, but the song itself isn't much to brag about. Not much of a melody anywhere and as there ain't much to say about the sounds either, this falls into the end of the worse songs on this albums.
Rating : 7

14.Madison - You Can Light My Fire (Delta)
A refreshing song for a change! This track sounds quite different from the general eurobeat with a change in the sounds, the background beat might be the standard but still somethinga bout this song makes it stick out from the crowd. Really nice song otherwise as well, great vocals and a nice melody.
Rating : 9-

15.Niko - Electonic Power (Delta)
Oh boy, Niko also had to stick along for the ride. I was preparing for the worst after I heard Niko was on this album, but a miracle has happened as this time he wasn't all that horrible. The song works really well and actually has a few little gimmicks in the backgrounds that make it sound rather good. Niko's vocals are what they are, but this song kicks ass.
Rating : 8+

16.Lolita - You Set My Heart On Fire (A-Beat C)
An interesting intro for a song that blasts into action and quickly shows itself to be one of the best tracks on the album. Lolita's awesome vocals really give the song a boost, the melody is pretty standard and the sounds as well. But what really makes Lolita one of my favorite eurobeat vocalists is that she can make an even crappy song sound great because of her strong performance.
Rating : 9

17.Time Force - Dancin' Forever (Time)
This song reminds me of eurodance in quite many ways, the vocalist(s) of Time Force just somehow sound like typical eurodance vocalists and the song has this typical eurodance beat on the background as well. Nice chorus and great work with the vocals, but not a very memorable song.
Rating : 8+

18.Norma Sheffield & Virginelle - You Are My Happiness (A-Beat C)
Two big names collaborate and produce quite an interesting end for the album. These two go along pretty damn well, their vocals sound good as together and as they have been given a song that works really well you can only get great results.

Bonus Disc Super Remix Collection Part 7

1.A-Beat Sisters - Go Baby Go (New Generation Remix) (A-Beat C)
A classic eurobeat song presented in a new format. Really energetic and the song already as itself is a masterpiece. Awesome remix as it even tops the original by light years. Lolita's vocals are the most easily recognizable and she does a great job here, like all of the other sisters as well.
Rating : 10

2.Dr. Money - That's All Right (I Love "Time" Mix) (Time)
More classic tracks put into new format. A great original song has been given even more boost with this remix. Dr. Money's vocals sound good and the track offers us new gimmicks in the background and as the original melody had many hooks in it, this one can't go wrong either.
Rating : 9-

3.Man Power - Spark In The Night (I Love "Delta" Mix) (Delta)
Well the previous Remix Collections have been good too, but this one in particular has great tracks in it. This track is still catchy and the vocals are pretty easy to follow through. Good work by Delta.
Rating : 9-

Final Words :
Super Eurobeat 87 is a nice compilation that has some great moments, but also it has quite a lot of not too thrilling tracks along. The Remix Disc at the end offers many hoorays for fans of Eurobeat and of course the new Lolita and Go Go Girls songs offer us a joyride, but hopefully 88 will have a higher level in general.

Final Score : 8+
