Super Eurobeat 109
1.Virginelle - Summer Night (
A-Beat C)
The good old
Virginelle is back to take us to the right athmosphere
considering it's the summer when I am writing this review. The song is your
typical A-Beat C materials, and like expected from a title like
Virginelle
the quality is really high. Excellent melody and great sounds, though only the
chorus is really catchy and fun to sing along to. Basic good eurobeat.
Rating : 9+
2.Derreck Simons - Dance Away (
A-Beat C)
A-Beat C is still in control, as we get a song that kicks off with an intro that
is totally different from the general genre. The intro sounds more like calm
ambient music with some eurobeat elements, but at least the song finally kicks
off and we get a typical song in the end. The vocals sound a whole lot like
Dave Rodgers, and I would quite surely say that it's also him. Catchy chorus,
great vocals, great sounds and overall an another great display of basic good
eurobeat.
Rating : 9
3.Niki Niki - Wonderland (
Time)
Another intro that sounds more variable and efficient than eurobeat in general,
but that doesn't last for a long time as the typical Time synth takes over and
pretty much steals the whole show from there on. The vocals are quite good and
the few nice xylophone sounds in the background are very efficient and add a
nice touch to the song. An excellent chorus, and in the end the whole song works
out pretty well, and it doesn't suffer from the typical Time-flaws.
Rating : 9
4.Triumph - Halleluya Man (
Time)
Time does their best and try to avoid the general traps as they present another
song that works nicely, even though it's very much like basic eurobeat. The
synthlines this time around are quite different from the general and we also get
much more variety in the backgrounds which is always a plus. Also the
co-operation with the female and male vocals sounds really nice, and when the
chorus finishes the song off the song works rather nicely. Just a bit more punch
and edge to make the song stick out would be needed.
Rating : 8½
5.Virginia Toy - Let Me Go (
Delta)
For a change Delta is moving on a more eurodance-sounding ground and that works
nicely for me as I do love fast eurodance. The song doesn't have your typical
synths as the beat is the key-element with the vocals as the other key-element.
Virginia Toy sounds nice and the light yet beautiful backgrounds add a
good finishing touch to the song. Effective, nothing to go on for multiple
paragraphs but good eurobeat none the less.
Rating : 8½
6.Za-Za - In The Heat Of Rome (
Delta)
An excellent spoken intro reveals a hyper song with the good old
Za-Za
style. The track itself would be much more suitable for Euromachs but I won't
complain as it's also great to hear speedy and upbeat materials on the mother
compilation series as well. Speedy, catchy, energetic, happy and pretty much
like what you can expect to hear from the bigger female titles on Delta. A great
song and definitely one of the highlights on the album.
Rating : 10-
7.Eurosisters - Dance All Night (
Time)
The upbeat gear seems to be turned on for this song as well, but this time on
the more typical Time style. The basic happy-happy synth is ruling over the
sounds and you can't really hear anything besides the beat and the synth which
is really a shame as the song is nicely catchy otherwise. Good vocals and a
great chorus, just the fact that the song is really suffering from a huge
originality dose is a bit of a bad side.
Rating : 8-
8.Leslie Parrish - My Baby's Gonna Break My Heart (
Delta)
Delta has a way of mixing up modern european pop elements with eurobeat and
making these hybrid songs that at some points sound like your everyday radio
pop, but the next moment they're ultraspeedy and catchy. This song has a lot of
moments that would make it a pop song but the hyper speed of the verses and the
chorus turn the dial on the eurobeat side clearly. Weirdly enough the verses are
much more catchy than the chorus, but the chorus isn't bad either, and an
excellent c-melody.
Rating : 9-
9.J. Storm - Born To Make Music (
A-Beat C)
A-Beat C for a change presents us with energetic male energy that is slowly
growing on me, and I could pretty much say that I truthfully enjoy both styles (masculine
and girly eurobeat) from A-Beat C equally.
J. Storm is pretty well known
for energy and this song is energy at it's purest. Catchy, speedy and with a lot
of guitars, that's what our A-Beat C is made of.
Rating : 9
10.Sonya - Night Is The Night (
A-Beat C)
Sonya is definitely a title I don't really know myself very well, one
song from the title has become slightly known due to a certain person who likes
a certain vocalist, but let's leave that open for the time being. The song
reminds me a whole lot like
Norma Sheffield, as the song is calm, very
air-y, and it leaves a somewhat dreamy feel after it's over. Not the style I
like the most, but considering the artists who do this kind of songs, this song
isn't such a bad performance at all.
Rating : 8-
11.Donna - No No Baby (
Delta)
A cool intro with some male vocals repeating the songtitle over and over starts
the song off nicely, after that the song really kicks into action with your
typical Delta happy elements. Not a very speedy song which sounds a lot like
some other song from Delta, but I can't point my finger straight away to it. The
song takes some time before you start to remember the lyrics and the melody so
you can sing along to, but once you do the karma goes up a whole lot. A good
song, but not one of the strongest ones by
Donna.
Rating : 8+
12.Vanessa - You Light My Fantasy (
Time)
Another song with the typical air-y, dreamy, calm way? Well partly true, partly
not. With
Vanessa we get usually much calmer songs and on her standars we
are dealing with a fast song. The vocals are very dreamy, but much faster than
what she usually does and it's refreshing to hear her sped up a bit, it would be
great to hear her on one of the Euromachs with the same BPM as most of the songs
there. Not a huge hit, but still nice song and a special mentioning to the
c-melody that is very catchy.
Rating : 8+
13.Vicky Vale - Welcome To The Show (
Delta)
Wow, we've already had
Za-Za, Leslie
Parrish and
Donna from
Delta, and now we get
Vicky Vale, there's only a few more big female
titles missing and then we'd have the whole club gathering.
Vicky Vale is
here again to make us feel good, with a song that is extremely upbeat and catchy.
Great vocals and an excellent melody that highlights during the c-melody that
sounds in it's simplicity just brilliant.
Rating : 9½
14.Kate & Karen - Up 'N Down (
Time)
I would right away put
Kate & Karen on to A-Beat C due to the fact that
there's already a
Karen on A-Beat C. Well we aren't dealing with a
vocalist as good as the other
Karen, but still we have a nice song in our
hands that sounds very much like old-generation Time and reminds me of
Atrium.
A nice song that has a more variable background than most of Time songs anyways.
Rating : 8+
15.Dave Simon - King Of Your Extasy (
A-Beat C)
A-Beat C presents us with another energetic male song that carries on the
high-level we've had so far. I have always been somewhere in between with
Dave Simon's songs, as they sound good at first but slowly start to wear off.
This song though managed to keep my interest up for a longer time so I was again
feeling positive about
Dave Simon, a great typical guitar-based song.
Rating : 9+
16.Mickey B. - Take Me Baby (
A-Beat C)
I am not sure what about this song sounds so familiar to me, but the first time
I heard it I felt a big time Deja Vu feeling, and it might be that I've actually
heard the song before or that it just sounds like something else. Well anyways,
the song reminds me of some of the tracks
The Spiders From Mars did as
the catchiness is all there and simply everything about this song works
perfectly: Great vocals, awesome melody, catchy chorus and even distinctive
sounds. Definitely a highlight for the album.
Rating : 10
17.Matt Land - A Chance To Love You (
A-Beat C)
Another great vocalist from A-Beat C, and again a song to make us move. From all
of the
Matt Land songs out there, this one is probably the one I like the
least, it really took me a long time before I even started to like it, but I
guess the slower pace and different mood just make it slightly different from
what we usually get from
Matt. The track is slightly calmer than most of
the songs he has done, but it's still quite swift and still catchy. Just not
Matt Land catchy.
Rating : 8+
18.Move - Blazin' Beat (Eurobeat Mix)
And on to the J-Euro dose of the album. This time we get
Move, that I never really got very well acquinted with for some
reason. The male vocals in
Move remind me of hiphop and that's one of the
elements that ticks me off. The female vocals on the song are simply brilliant
but everytime I hear the male vocals my mind goes *bling* and I wanna hit
somebody. A great song on most levels, just would be better off without the man.
Rating : 9
Final Words :
This album is definitely the kind of level I like my SEBs to be, there are
no bad songs at all in the mix, and all of the labels present us with awesome
songs which doesn't happen on every album. The few very memorable songs on the
album make the song a definitey purchase for a eurobeat fan, and if you like
female vocals then this album would be a must for you as the amount of male
vocalists is pretty small and their songs are also great. A great opener for the
album and a great way to end it as well, definitely something I'd recommend.
